This is a Power Point Presentation that has been created as part of IGCSE Global Perspectives Project. We hope that through this form of social media, we'd be able to reach all those that are concerned about the issue as well as those that are unaware of the issue and thereby make a change in the society that we exist in. Thank You For Watching!!!
2. Poverty: Poverty is general scarcity or dearth,
or the state of one who lacks a certain amount
of material possessions or money
Crime: Unlawful Acts Punishable by the state
Basic Definitions
3. Poverty, in the modern society has proven to
become one of the leading causes of criminality.
Studies conducted in Psychology with regard
to aggression and criminality point towards the
fact that lowered income people believing that
society has failed them and therefore in
resolution to this they turn to crime.
The Economics Perspective points towards
people turning to crime in order to sustain
themselves or to bring them out of the poverty
cycle.
Correlation
4. In the UK, in 1994, 5.5 million crimes were committed
:- the main characteristics of this period include 3
million people being unemployed and an unjust
government. The following year as employment rose,
the number of crimes fell dramatically. This clearly
shows that inequality and crime are primary causes of
criminality.
The UN has published research on the ever so
‘intimate’ link between poverty and crime afer
conducting studies in the US since the 70’s . The
believe that the minority communities are those with
the least amount of education and therefore are more
economically deprived thereby leading to higher
crime rates in such regions.
The Facts
5. Macroeconomic downturn as a result of crime
in numerous regions.
The number of people in poverty.
The safety of the general public.
The potential threat of sustained criminal
activity if poverty is not ended in the future.
The lack of education and awareness in
societies of how poverty contributes to crime
and how they ( the people) could aid in
defeating this cause of crime.
The Problem
6. Aims: 1) To contribute to the reduction poverty
rates on a small scale to begin with thereby
reducing the extent of poverty which leads to
crime in a region.
2) To raise awareness regarding poverty-
stricken areas on a large scale to trigger
government intervention or action
3) To raise awareness regarding the importance
of higher national minimum wages
Our Aims
7. By using social media platforms such as facebook,
twitter, and whatsapp to raise awareness of our
cause
Publishing an online survey to collect relevant data
in order to know the current extent of the issue, with
results showing promising prospects, we are sure to
catch the attention of the large public sooner, if not
later.
Conducting Fund Raisers in our local community
and contributing proceeds to organizations such as
Dubai Cares, The United Nations, The Face to Faith
foundation; all of whom that seek to bring people
out of poverty.
How we hope to achieve
these…..
