- 3. Before we consider Postmodernism we first need to define Modernism. Modernism, in its broadest definition, is modern thought, character or practice. It appeared in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The term modernism covers the activities and the ideas of those who felt “traditional” forms of art (architecture, literature, religious faith, social organization and daily life) were becoming outdated.
- 4. The intention of modernist‟s was to “make it new”. Modernism sees the past as different to the modern age. Modernism was a recognition that the world was becoming more complex and that the old “final authorities” were subject to intense scrutiny.
- 5. - was a new way of thinking - rejected perfection -challenged expected ideas about God and Science. -was separate to the past Post modern artists took parts of the classical and the parts of the modern and called it „Postmodernism‟ There are many forms of Postmodernism and many different Postmodern characteristics. At its most basic postmodernism applies to the ways which new texts are constructed by making references to „borrowing‟.
