This document summarizes a research poster about designing an SDN-manageable hardware switch. The researchers built a fully OpenFlow-controlled switch using a multi-port hardware development platform running Linux and Open vSwitch. They tested its performance under real-world network conditions. Their goals were to enable higher network programmability and wider adoption of SDN in physical networks, as existing SDN devices are too expensive. The switch used a Soekris net4801 board with 6 Ethernet ports and 1 controller port. Tests showed bandwidth, datapath type impacts, CPU usage, and controller round-trip times. This provided a tool for future SDN development work.
