Poster Research By Matt Everatt
Posters today Most posters today consist of bold eye-catching colours along with photo’s of the two main characters. This is the kind of thing im going to focus on to attract my target audience. Most posters seem to contain either a slogan or a quote from the film, examples of this are Titanic. The most important element in this poster is actor and actress because the audience can see they are the most important.
Most posters today seem to have a saying or quote from the film. Films like Dark Night, Twilight, Dawn of the Dead as well as others. I will use this kind of thing on my ancillary task and in corporate a saying from my film that will attract my target audience the quote needs to be significant and eye-catching towards my target audience.
Another effect with film posters today is the special effects. For example in twilight which has a photo of the main character along with broken pieces of glass falling. Also there is the use of quotes in this instance ‘What if im not the hero? What if I’m the bad guy?’ this seems to attract many audiences to go and watch the film.
The use of having the poster split into two different pictures helps convey emotion. An example of this is the film poster Atonement. Here the audience can see the vulnerability and loneliness of both the man and women. This helps greatly in attracting the audience because the audience may want to go and see if the main characters are ever reunited.
Posters throughout the 70s Some posters throughout the 70’s were either in black and white or in colour. Another thing with posters back in 70s most were used to attract children to go to the cinemas with their parents. An example of this is 101 Dalmatians. In this poster there is multiple shots incorporated in the poster in a kind of storyboard layout.
Conclusion I have look through examples of film posters and I have taken the elements used to help attract target audiences. I am now going to use these elements and incorporate them into an effective poster for my Media coursework. I will then get feedback from my target audience to see if the poster attracts them and if they would want to go and see my film if it was advertised.
