Soil samples from sugar cane fields in Colombia were analyzed using physical-chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Mössbauer spectrometry (MS) to identify mineral phases present. Quartz was found in all samples by XRD. MS also identified iron-containing phases belonging to Fe2+ and Fe3+. MS serves as a complementary technique to XRD for agricultural soil analysis since soils contain iron that can be analyzed by MS.
