I was contacted by a local plumbing company to design their website. After several
meetings and consultations I submitted a design proposal that was accepted. I
designed a responsive website that reflected not only the
current direction of the company but it’s future direction.
The website was built from the ground up to maximise
the branding and strength of the images. The site is fully
responsive and adapts to all mobile and tablet sizes. It was
developed around a simple custom Content Management
System (CMS), so staff could update the website

DESCRIPTION
RAO Fish Merchants is a very
prestigious company based in the
world famous Billingsgate Market in
London. They contacted me, looking
for someone to design and develop
their branding.
As RAO Fish Merchants serve only
the catering trade and top London
restaurants, their reputation and
image is everything, and they needed a
branding to match.
Their existing branding was virtually
non-existent. A mishmash of self-made
logos and designs made by staff over
the years.
After many FaceTime meetings and
hours of research, I came up with
a series of concepts, one design, in
particular, they immediately liked.
I produced a brand concept kit to
demonstrate the design in various
forms. The final concept was initially
accepted, but a few weeks later, they
decided after much internal discussion
that they would like the logo to
ramped up with added ‘Oomph!’
So I set about the task again and
developed what both RAO and I
believe to be a powerful branding that
tells the story of their business and.
The branding will be implemented
to business cards, vehicle wraps,
uniforms, business collateral such
as letterheads and envelopes and
even stamps.

Elyse / Paper Co are a leading supplier of cleaning products and were about to
launch a new product on to the market - a ultra luxury brand of toilet paper
and needed the packaging to match the quality of the product. After a few long
discussions with the client and researching the competition. I developed a series
concept designs that I felt relfected the product and conyed the message of
the client. The final selected design used a gloss varnish to highlight key design
elements and produced full size mock ups to demostrate how the packaging
works. The product has since gone onto full production and will soon be available
in supermarkets.

15. I was contacted by the Sydney Showground Brand Manager to produce an interim website for the venue before the full site
was devised.
I started the project in my usual way with plenty of planning and research. I developed the original website a few years ago.
The goal was to consolidate as much of the accumulated content as possible and rework the information architecture into
a more easily navigable path for the user. Sitemaps, user journey charts and wireframes followed by the design roughs and
finally the approved designs. The back end of the site had to communicate with the Showground’s event management system
EBMS.
All through the design and development process, the client was kept informed and contributed via a project management
system. The site was built on a simple CMS to allow staff to update content.
The resulting website is a modern, clean and usable design, which Sydney Showground will now use as their full, long term
site.

Branding is a critical element of
any business. Too often a logo is
synonymous with branding. Although
they are related, they are not the
same. Many companies overlook the
potential of what a brand can do for
their business and settle for just a logo,
thinking it covers their needs.
So, what sets a brand apart from a logo.
Why is the jump from a logo to a brand
so difficult? Why do you need a brand,
not just a logo?
A logo is a company’s identification in
its simplest form via a recognisable
mark or symbol. Branding, however,
is an emotional experience. You
are exposed to hundreds of logos
throughout the day, but the one’s that
leave an impression are the brands that
elicit that emotional response.
What is a logo?
A logo, also called logotype, is a graphical
identification or symbol of a company
name, trademark, abbreviation, etc.,
often uniquely designed for instant
recognition.
Simply put, a logo is a stamp that
identifies your business but doesn’t tell
the story of your business. A company’s
logo and identity are inseparable. When
talking about identity, we speak of
business cards, letterhead, marketing
collateral, packaging, signage - anything
visual. Identity is the vehicle for a
logo and, just like a logo, is purely for
identification purposes.
What about the brand?
A memorable logo is important, and
it sets the groundwork for effective
branding, but a brand is more than
just a logo. More than just a visual
identification of your business. A brand
is the emotion behind the interaction
with your company. Your brand is the
belief, the mission statement you strive
to accomplish with your business. In
essence, it’s the personality of your
business. Therefore a brand bears much
more responsibility than a logo.
Although a designer will create the
visual foundation of a brand, it’s the
brand’s audience that shapes it. It is vital
that this foundation is created correctly
and in keeping with the business’ ethos.
Practically speaking, your brand should
be ubiquitous, consistent and follow a
strategy. Remember a logo is designed
for identification, a brand should be
mindful of how the audience will
perceive it.
Branding is an emotional experience
that people want to be a part of.

I started my web design career back
in 2000, creating the website for
the packaging design company I was
working for at the time. It was a basic
Flash-based site, but it unlocked my web
design passion. Now I have developed
many, many websites that range from
the one or two-page brochure site to
the full blown eCommerce and CMS
controlled online systems that are
the gateway to some of the biggest
organisations in Australia.
I started my web design career at
SYZYGY in the UK working on the Disney
UK TV website, developing interactive
games and fun content for the family-
orientated audience. I then moved to
Australia and started working for the
Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, who
run the Sydney Royal Easter Show. I
spent nine years working for or with
as a consultant/freelancer developing
their very basic site into a massive event
site that delivered firsts, like the print
at home tickets, EFTPOS PayPass and
Showbag shopping carts. The website
generated an annual income of over 2
million. Around the same time I worked
for Sony Pictures Australia, localising
the US websites and microsites for
the domestic market. I developed eye-
blaster banner ads and created the
global website for the Australian movie
The Proposition. I localised sites for
Spiderman 1, 2 and 3, the DaVinci Code,
Terminator 3 and Casino Royale.
I designed, developed and managed the
Sydney Showground website for many
years, which is one of Sydney’s premiere
event locations and stages some of
the biggest event and conferences in
Australia.
I am currently working in the Public
Sector for the Australian Children’s
Education and Care Quality Authority, I
