PUBLIC DIPLOMACY
A Swiss transplant to New York, I started out in
corporate advertising in Zurich, picked up the thread
in New York, cutting my teeth with advertising giants
such as Ogilvy & Mather, Foote, Cone & Belding,
mastering the ropes of media planning, project
management, and emerging digital technologies.
Eventually transitioning into business development
for a pioneering digital entertainment start up, my
course has since been set as a producer of business
and culture initiatives for a roster of international
clients: building inroads between the realms of
culture, science, technology and public diplomacy by
integrating them with new media platforms and
technologies.
With the digital boutique, Featurezoo, I co-founded, I
am able to propel my client services as well as
produce new content.

CONSULTING PRODUCER:  DON’T BLINK - ROBERT FRANK
Swiss-born, dyed-in-the-wool, New Yorker, Robert Frank is
one of the most influential photographers of the 20th
century—and also one of the most reclusive. A number of
documentaries have been made about him, but without his
full-fledged participation, until now. Don’t Blink is a
chronicle of the life and times of this pivotal artist, by his
dear friend and collaborator Laura Israel. A combination of
unprecedented access and perspective on the man, has
mad Don’t Blink a critical success.
As Consulting Producer, I leveraged fundraising for the
production, bringing entities such as the City of Zurich into
the fray to lend financial support for the film.
The film is set for commercial release internationally in
2016.

SPS (Shaping Public Space) is an installation
created for the 2016 Venice Biennale of Architecture,
by New York firm, AP*T Architecture. The installation
is part of the Time, Space, and Existence exhibit at
Palazzo Mora, and addresses issues of what
constitutes public space.
Featurezoo was tasked with creating an
accompanying video (which screens within the space),
as well as orchestrating an interactive social media
component for the six month duration of the festival.

THE DAILY FUTURE SERIES
The Daily Future is a series of short films created by
Featurezoo, introducing ETH Zurich to a new
audience as well as some of the institutes core areas
of research and study: nano-robotics, quantum
computing, natural sciences, astrophysics, and big
data. These shorts offer a fresh and friendly approach
to these complex topics.
So far we produced seven segments, which can be
watched here.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING: WORLD-ARCHITECTS (US)
LIFEHOUSE (click for archive)
One of several MCY projects I developed: Pete Townshend's Lifehouse one
time only concert was filmed at the Royal Opera House as an "immersive
rock experience" and produced by MCY exclusively for the web as a pay-per-
view webcast.
I was Associate Director of Business Development & Project
management at MCY Music World in New York from 2001 -
2002. MCY Music Word, a German company, based in Munich
and New York was a pioneer of digital media entertainment.
Finding itself in the center of the Napster revolution, MCY
positioned itself as an internet platform with a vision of cornering
the niche in digital music/entertainment distribution for the mass-
market.
Offerings included pay-per-view, on demand, and streaming
webcasts, featuring international stars such as Michael Jackson,
Puff Daddy, Sting and Pete Townshend. It boasted an extensive
music catalogue of 5 million songs to be downloaded—MCY
being the only patented (and commercially viable) platform for
secure and legal retail distribution of digital media at the time— in
fact the first of it’s kind. A precursor to iTunes. MCY also
introduced a digital player NETraxplay at least 10 years before
Apple's iPod hit the market.

- Developing strategic partnerships with record labels, online media
partners, and cross-promotional platforms who could offer our
webcasts to their audience. I was responsible for the e-commerce
strategy, and managed projects such as Pete Townshend's
Lifehouse a live concert filmed at the Royal Opera House in
London. Built around the idea of an immersive user experience, it is
truly an artifact of digital pioneering: the wild wild west of the world
wide web.
- Building MCY's network and leveraging it's exposure by
sponsoring major music festivals and industry events. One such
example is my negotiation of exclusive sponsorship deals with open
air festival Rock am Ring and it’s media partner, MTV Germany. I
was responsible for making sure MCY's brand exposure was well
leveraged at the event. I created several networking events for
music industry representatives during the festival, utilizing the VIP
lounges at Rock am Ring (made available to MCY as a presenting
sponsor.) I also represented MCY at various industry events and
gatherings such as the Cologne Music Fair.
As director of Associate Business Development, I oversaw several
complex operations:
- Creating a website: MCY was an early adopter of e-commerce
and the website we developed needed secure downloads, secure
financial transactions, digital rights management, and a section for
pay-per-view webcasts— and of course the proprietary software
for the digital player. I worked with the internet agency, Sapient
and in-house programmers, data-base specialists, content
managers, designers as well as with the legal department
concerning compliance issues.

The panel, moderated by Mark Wasiuta, featured stars and
innovators of the “new materials” architecture movement: David
Benjamin, Dirk Hebel and Philippe Block.
The Pavilion was a direct result of relationships I had developed
between to the New Museum /IDEAS CITY Festival and ETH
Zurich at the Zurich Meets NY festival a year earlier. As local
producer, I worked in tandem with the ETH architectural team on
the project from the ground up: location scouting / local
contractors / interface with NYC Parks / DOB Permits / co-
curation of program / event logistics / catering / local
partnerships.
I also worked with the ETH team to enhance the ETH brand,
ensuring that the Pavilion got maximum coverage in
international design / architecture / lifestyle publications (see
media list).

Described as “a cutting edge artifact from the future”, the ETH Zurich
Pavilion, designed by a team of ETH architects and engineers, was
created from repurposed waste materials. A satellite hub for the New
Museum’s IDEAS CITY Festival, the ETH Pavilion was it’s own main
attraction, and also played host to a series of events (15 in total over
4 days), a mix of panels, presentations, and think tanks which we
programmed and co-produced with local partners. (See the full
program)
Highlights were an exclusive Preview Party, co-hosted by the Swiss
Consulate General of New York, and the flagship event “In the Future
There Will be No Waste”, which I co-curated with AIANY.

The Basel / Miami CEO Forum is a networking / business development platform I
created and developed for Basel Area and Switzerland Trade and Investment
Promotion (STIP).
Basel is a thriving hub of biotech and life sciences, as US Business Development
representative for Basel Area, also working in tandem with STIP, I was tasked with the
long term goal of attracting US biotech companies to set up a European headquarters in
Basel. In North America, Florida has the largest cluster of such companies, and as it
turns out Basel's other famous export, the Art Fair, has an outpost in Florida, Art Basel
Miami.
Using my knowledge and contacts in the art world, diplomatic circles, corporate sectors
and local press and politics, I developed the Basel / Miami CEO Forum. Held during the
Art Fair, the Forum became an extremely popular series of round tables, seminars, VIP
receptions— attracting high level corporate executives, from both the US and
Switzerland, elected officials, visiting diplomats, local biotech researchers / academics,
top brass of the Miami Herald, and of course, artists, curators, architects, and
designers.
The immediate payoff for the forum has been the generation of contacts between Swiss
and American companies; a now thriving exchange between Scripps Research Institute
and University of Basel; intense media coverage of the Forum and subsequently the
Swiss biotech cluster; governmental and political liaisons—necessary for US companies
planning to do business in Switzerland; and garnering the interest of venture capitalists
in potential US - Swiss collaborations in the biotech sector.

Reportage by the Miami Herald covering a delegation of Swiss
Pharmaceutical executives:
The event kicked off the two-day Basel Life Science Mission to Florida -- a
string of cocktail receptions and networking lunches, along with tours of the
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami medical school and
Scripps Research Institute facilities in Palm Beach County.
With about two dozen Swiss executives recruited for the trip, the tour reflects
the high hopes Florida economic officials have in the life-sciences field. And
it also underscores Art Basel's potential for corporate schmoozing.
'I never saw a better networking platform than Basel Miami,' said Lukas
Fitze, the U.S. representative for Basel's business recruitment agency.

As an integral part of the Zurich Meets New York Festival (May
16-23, 2014), ETH presented an array of 11 events from the
realm of science and technology that covered socially relevant
(for New York) issues as urban planning, risk and resilience,
big data, and augmented reality. Strategic partners included:
The New Museum, The New York Academy of Science, AIA,
Explorers Club and Neue House. As ETH point person my
duties included: co-developing content / event concepts;
generating contact with potential partners; negotiating strategic
partnerships with venues; cross marketing and PR strategies;
all aspects of event production; fostering long term alliances;
acted as representative when dealing other festival partners
(the City of Zurich, University of Zurich, Consulate General of
New York); brought my expertise to festival marketing and
communications; produced six ETH science topic videos for
the festival which will further build the ETH brand beyond the
festival. Watch the Highlights video

Co-conceived and produced this North American campaign launched in 2005 and
targeted towards people with Swiss heritage in the U.S —and those with an affinity
to contemporary Swiss art and culture. A pioneer in the realm of public diplomacy
Swiss Roots emerged as a successful image campaign abroad for Switzerland
with the help of a multi-pronged media approach: The center piece was a social
media platform, where users in the US, Switzerland and around the world shared
their Swiss experiences. The site generated traffic through online marketing
promotions such as Swiss International Air Lines, a t-shirt merchandising line, a
lifestyle blog, helveticabold.tv a spokes person advertising campaign featuring—
folk singer Jewel, NFL star Ben Roethlisberger, and NBA star and Thabo
Sefolosha,, “The Swiss Roots Roadshow” was an event platform which toured
major cities in the U.S.and partnered with institutions such as PS1, MOMA, Vitra,
United Nations, World Economic Forum /92 Street Y, Swiss Institute NY, UC
Berkeley, UCLA, and the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
Among the Swiss Roots' sponsors were: UBS, Credit Suisse, Swiss
International Airlines, American Airllines, Jet Aviation, Swiss Re, Nespresso,
Rolex, USM / Modular Furniture, Vitra and Tag Heuer, as well as Swiss
governmental agencies such as Switzerland Tourism, Pro Helvetia, and the
Swiss Foreign Ministry.
Robust web traffic and an active social media platform kept Swiss Roots going
several years longer than planned, This mix of grassroots, local and online
interaction produced a vibrant and lively dialogue between members in both the
U.S., Switzerland and all over the globe for five years. Swiss Roots was phased
out in 2010 by Presence Switzerland.

Swiss Peaks, a 3 month festival showcasing the best of contemporary
Switzerland via over 100 events in the arts, design, lifestyle, business, and
education. The festival featured cutting-edge visual and performing arts;
student exchanges through virtual classrooms and trips to Switzerland;
political panels on Swiss democracy and foreign policy; business forums;
film screenings, and culinary extravaganzas...
The primary goal was to enhance the dialogue between Swiss and
American culture, with an eye to entrepreneurs, students, artists,
designers, and politicians. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: the
festival resonated with partners, media and the general public alike—
capturing the attention of the intelligentsia and the business world.
As marketing director I focused on several key elements for the festival:
1)Creating the award winning "+" campaign, developed with local design
agency, Ahoy Studio NY, which played out in print advertising, outdoor
posting, direct marketing, promotions, merchandising and grassroots
marketing.
2) Strategic partnerships with event partners such as the Brooklyn
Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall, Van Allen Institute, Cooper Union,
Columbia University, New York University, Department of Education
of NYC, Film Society Lincoln Center, The Fresh Air Fund, The Swiss
Institute, The Goethe Institute, Swiss-American Chamber of
Commerce,
3) Fundraising: the festival was funded by corporate and governmental
sponsors. I co-fundraised and supervised the festival budget.
Due to its success Swiss Peaks Festival was followed up with the Swiss
Roots program for several years.

  • 2. A Swiss transplant to New York, I started out in corporate advertising in Zurich, picked up the thread in New York, cutting my teeth with advertising giants such as Ogilvy & Mather, Foote, Cone & Belding, mastering the ropes of media planning, project management, and emerging digital technologies. Eventually transitioning into business development for a pioneering digital entertainment start up, my course has since been set as a producer of business and culture initiatives for a roster of international clients: building inroads between the realms of culture, science, technology and public diplomacy by integrating them with new media platforms and technologies. With the digital boutique, Featurezoo, I co-founded, I am able to propel my client services as well as produce new content. Lukas U. Fitze  456 Broadway 3FL New York. • 4. 4 LUKAS FITZE: PORTFOLIO CONSULTING PRODUCER:  DON’T BLINK - ROBERT FRANK Swiss-born, dyed-in-the-wool, New Yorker, Robert Frank is one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century—and also one of the most reclusive. A number of documentaries have been made about him, but without his full-fledged participation, until now. Don’t Blink is a chronicle of the life and times of this pivotal artist, by his dear friend and collaborator Laura Israel. A combination of unprecedented access and perspective on the man, has mad Don’t Blink a critical success. As Consulting Producer, I leveraged fundraising for the production, bringing entities such as the City of Zurich into the fray to lend financial support for the film. The film is set for commercial release internationally in 2016. More about Don’t Blink Watch the trailer Media coverage Official poster, Don’t Blink - Robert Frank Lukas U. The installation is part of the Time, Space, and Existence exhibit at Palazzo Mora, and addresses issues of what constitutes public space. Featurezoo was tasked with creating an accompanying video (which screens within the space), as well as orchestrating an interactive social media component for the six month duration of the festival. • 9. LIFEHOUSE (click for archive) One of several MCY projects I developed: Pete Townshend's Lifehouse one time only concert was filmed at the Royal Opera House as an "immersive rock experience" and produced by MCY exclusively for the web as a pay-per- view webcast. I was Associate Director of Business Development & Project management at MCY Music World in New York from 2001 - 2002. MCY Music Word, a German company, based in Munich and New York was a pioneer of digital media entertainment. Finding itself in the center of the Napster revolution, MCY positioned itself as an internet platform with a vision of cornering the niche in digital music/entertainment distribution for the mass- market. Offerings included pay-per-view, on demand, and streaming webcasts, featuring international stars such as Michael Jackson, Puff Daddy, Sting and Pete Townshend. It boasted an extensive music catalogue of 5 million songs to be downloaded—MCY being the only patented (and commercially viable) platform for secure and legal retail distribution of digital media at the time— in fact the first of it’s kind. A precursor to iTunes. MCY also introduced a digital player NETraxplay at least 10 years before Apple's iPod hit the market. PROJECT MANAGEMENT: MCY MUSIC WORLD Lukas U. • 10. - Developing strategic partnerships with record labels, online media partners, and cross-promotional platforms who could offer our webcasts to their audience. I was responsible for the e-commerce strategy, and managed projects such as Pete Townshend's Lifehouse a live concert filmed at the Royal Opera House in London. Built around the idea of an immersive user experience, it is truly an artifact of digital pioneering: the wild wild west of the world wide web. - Building MCY's network and leveraging it's exposure by sponsoring major music festivals and industry events. One such example is my negotiation of exclusive sponsorship deals with open air festival Rock am Ring and it’s media partner, MTV Germany. I was responsible for making sure MCY's brand exposure was well leveraged at the event. I created several networking events for music industry representatives during the festival, utilizing the VIP lounges at Rock am Ring (made available to MCY as a presenting sponsor.) I also represented MCY at various industry events and gatherings such as the Cologne Music Fair. As director of Associate Business Development, I oversaw several complex operations: - Creating a website: MCY was an early adopter of e-commerce and the website we developed needed secure downloads, secure financial transactions, digital rights management, and a section for pay-per-view webcasts— and of course the proprietary software for the digital player. I worked with the internet agency, Sapient and in-house programmers, data-base specialists, content managers, designers as well as with the legal department concerning compliance issues. The Pavilion was a direct result of relationships I had developed between to the New Museum /IDEAS CITY Festival and ETH Zurich at the Zurich Meets NY festival a year earlier. As local producer, I worked in tandem with the ETH architectural team on the project from the ground up: location scouting / local contractors / interface with NYC Parks / DOB Permits / co- curation of program / event logistics / catering / local partnerships. I also worked with the ETH team to enhance the ETH brand, ensuring that the Pavilion got maximum coverage in international design / architecture / lifestyle publications (see media list). Watch a time-lapse video of the Pavilion construction here. More about ETH Zurich Pavilion LUKAS FITZE: PORTFOLIO 12 Described as “a cutting edge artifact from the future”, the ETH Zurich Pavilion, designed by a team of ETH architects and engineers, was created from repurposed waste materials. A satellite hub for the New Museum’s IDEAS CITY Festival, the ETH Pavilion was it’s own main attraction, and also played host to a series of events (15 in total over 4 days), a mix of panels, presentations, and think tanks which we programmed and co-produced with local partners. (See the full program) Highlights were an exclusive Preview Party, co-hosted by the Swiss Consulate General of New York, and the flagship event “In the Future There Will be No Waste”, which I co-curated with AIANY.

  • 16. The Basel / Miami CEO Forum is a networking / business development platform I created and developed for Basel Area and Switzerland Trade and Investment Promotion (STIP). Basel is a thriving hub of biotech and life sciences, as US Business Development representative for Basel Area, also working in tandem with STIP, I was tasked with the long term goal of attracting US biotech companies to set up a European headquarters in Basel. In North America, Florida has the largest cluster of such companies, and as it turns out Basel's other famous export, the Art Fair, has an outpost in Florida, Art Basel Miami. Using my knowledge and contacts in the art world, diplomatic circles, corporate sectors and local press and politics, I developed the Basel / Miami CEO Forum. Held during the Art Fair, the Forum became an extremely popular series of round tables, seminars, VIP receptions— attracting high level corporate executives, from both the US and Switzerland, elected officials, visiting diplomats, local biotech researchers / academics, top brass of the Miami Herald, and of course, artists, curators, architects, and designers. The immediate payoff for the forum has been the generation of contacts between Swiss and American companies; a now thriving exchange between Scripps Research Institute and University of Basel; intense media coverage of the Forum and subsequently the Swiss biotech cluster; governmental and political liaisons—necessary for US companies planning to do business in Switzerland; and garnering the interest of venture capitalists in potential US - Swiss collaborations in the biotech sector. • 18. Reportage by the Miami Herald covering a delegation of Swiss Pharmaceutical executives: The event kicked off the two-day Basel Life Science Mission to Florida -- a string of cocktail receptions and networking lunches, along with tours of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami medical school and Scripps Research Institute facilities in Palm Beach County. With about two dozen Swiss executives recruited for the trip, the tour reflects the high hopes Florida economic officials have in the life-sciences field. And it also underscores Art Basel's potential for corporate schmoozing. 'I never saw a better networking platform than Basel Miami,' said Lukas Fitze, the U.S. representative for Basel's business recruitment agency. Additional press coverage on the Forum: Swiss biotech leaders visit Florida Governor Bush Addresses Basel Life Sciences Leaders in Miami Art Basel brings Swiss biotech executives to South Florida "Basel may mean art in South Florida, but it means big pharmaceutical dollars on Wall Street." -The Miami Herald BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / EVENT PLANNING: BASEL / MIAMI CEO FORUM Lukas U. Strategic partners included: The New Museum, The New York Academy of Science, AIA, Explorers Club and Neue House. As ETH point person my duties included: co-developing content / event concepts; generating contact with potential partners; negotiating strategic partnerships with venues; cross marketing and PR strategies; all aspects of event production; fostering long term alliances; acted as representative when dealing other festival partners (the City of Zurich, University of Zurich, Consulate General of New York); brought my expertise to festival marketing and communications; produced six ETH science topic videos for the festival which will further build the ETH brand beyond the festival. Co-conceived and produced this North American campaign launched in 2005 and targeted towards people with Swiss heritage in the U.S —and those with an affinity to contemporary Swiss art and culture. A pioneer in the realm of public diplomacy Swiss Roots emerged as a successful image campaign abroad for Switzerland with the help of a multi-pronged media approach: The center piece was a social media platform, where users in the US, Switzerland and around the world shared their Swiss experiences. The site generated traffic through online marketing promotions such as Swiss International Air Lines, a t-shirt merchandising line, a lifestyle blog, helveticabold.tv a spokes person advertising campaign featuring— folk singer Jewel, NFL star Ben Roethlisberger, and NBA star and Thabo Sefolosha,, “The Swiss Roots Roadshow” was an event platform which toured major cities in the U.S.and partnered with institutions such as PS1, MOMA, Vitra, United Nations, World Economic Forum /92 Street Y, Swiss Institute NY, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Among the Swiss Roots' sponsors were: UBS, Credit Suisse, Swiss International Airlines, American Airllines, Jet Aviation, Swiss Re, Nespresso, Rolex, USM / Modular Furniture, Vitra and Tag Heuer, as well as Swiss governmental agencies such as Switzerland Tourism, Pro Helvetia, and the Swiss Foreign Ministry. Robust web traffic and an active social media platform kept Swiss Roots going several years longer than planned, This mix of grassroots, local and online interaction produced a vibrant and lively dialogue between members in both the U.S., Switzerland and all over the globe for five years. Swiss Roots was phased out in 2010 by Presence Switzerland. Lukas U. Fitze  456 Broadway 3FL New York. Helvetica Bold showcased the cutting edge of Swiss culture at home and abroad, focussing on advances in art, music, design, science, and lifestyle in general. As with Swiss Roots, I handled collaborated with web designers, content developers, and programmers to bring it to fruition. Lukas U. Fitze  456 Broadway 3FL New York. The festival featured cutting-edge visual and performing arts; student exchanges through virtual classrooms and trips to Switzerland; political panels on Swiss democracy and foreign policy; business forums; film screenings, and culinary extravaganzas... The primary goal was to enhance the dialogue between Swiss and American culture, with an eye to entrepreneurs, students, artists, designers, and politicians. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive: the festival resonated with partners, media and the general public alike— capturing the attention of the intelligentsia and the business world. As marketing director I focused on several key elements for the festival: 1)Creating the award winning "+" campaign, developed with local design agency, Ahoy Studio NY, which played out in print advertising, outdoor posting, direct marketing, promotions, merchandising and grassroots marketing. 2) Strategic partnerships with event partners such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall, Van Allen Institute, Cooper Union, Columbia University, New York University, Department of Education of NYC, Film Society Lincoln Center, The Fresh Air Fund, The Swiss Institute, The Goethe Institute, Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce, 3) Fundraising: the festival was funded by corporate and governmental sponsors. I co-fundraised and supervised the festival budget. Due to its success Swiss Peaks Festival was followed up with the Swiss Roots program for several years.
