October 2017
Dear Members,
As you may have guessed Kevin & Christine Gooch’s talk on America’s Great Loop was very well
attended, with over 50 people enjoying the evening and 20 taking advantage of Jacqui’s delicious
Chilli & Rice. There were some amazing pictures and the talk was filled with anecdotes showing
Kevin’s sense of humour.
Saturday’s Race was cancelled due to Storm Brian, and replaced with an energetic game of Skittles,
which took place in the Restaurant. Rick Wick cleverly made the wooden Skittles and Ball. So with
much hilarity, cheers and jeers, the Games proceeded. The outright winner was Team Pinocchio,
with Team Sibelius 2nd and Team Radiance in 3rd
position. This event was so successful, we will be
bringing Beer and Skittles back on Friday evenings, after our Autumn Talk season.
The Club 100 draw rolled over again as Brian Clough was NOT in the bar to collect £70. It will now
roll over to £80 for this Friday.
Despite Storm Brian, The Wivenhoe Wobble took place on Sunday, with 25 of our motor boaters and
yotties DRIVING to Wivenhoe for a tasty Lasagne lunch in the Sailing Club. There were some truly
gruesome Halloween outfits and prestigious prizes given for the best costumes!
Trophies
We are appealing for all those who won trophies in the 2016 season, to bring them back to the Club,
so they can be presented at this year’s Laying Up Supper. If you won a trophy but did not take it
home, please do let us know.
We are also looking for some volunteers who would be willing to come in on a Thursday afternoon
to do some silver polishing, so if you are happy to spare some time to help, please let Emma know
on 01206 302594.
The Day Trip on Pioneer has sold out. Wishing everyone fair winds and sunshine on Sunday, as they
enjoy the trip.
Boatyard Fees
All boatyard fee invoices have been sent out for winter storage and we would like to thank all those
that have paid so promptly. If you have not paid yet, we respectfully request payment asap. The club
cash flow is particularly tight this year and prompt payment will be a great help.

October, the Flag Officers will be attending the RYA East Affiliated Clubs Conference,
to understand more about how to improve the running of the Club and how we can work more
effectively with the RYA

However, the club will close early on evenings where there is no-one in the club for any length of
