Pollution of the water
1. All the water on land eventually reaches the ocean. Discuss how the area
you live in impacts the environmental quality of the ocean. Can you
describe areas that might add toxic material to the ocean? Are there ways
in which your community works to protect the ocean?
2. The Ft. Lauderdale Boat port is highly
busy with ships coming in and out of
port. These ships sometimes leave oil
behind which pollutes the water making
them toxic and inhabitable for fish or
any other organisms.
3. Toxic waters
This is what the water looks like up close, polluted in thick oils that
cover the whole entire port and lead right out into the ocean.
4. Not only is it just oil polluting
these waters, but it’s humans
throwing waste into them as
well. The ocean is not a garbage
bag, and doesn’t need the
organisms inside of it, dying
because of it. Even if people let
bags go, leave drinks
around, they don’t realize that
this will blow right along the
beaches and into the water.
Trashcans are here for a
reason, use them.
5. Sewage doesn’t present a bigger
Would you want that in
problem of pollution then most, but it
your water? definitely does it’s damage. In large
quantities it depletes the amount of
oxygen in the water. Without oxygen
rich waters, the area can not support
sea life. These area’s are known as
dead zones. There are more than 400
of them around the world.
6. There are many ways in
which we can protect our
waters. Simple things like
having a group of people go
out and pick up trash a long
seashores and lakes. Or
having the oil be removed
from the water every so
often. Little things like this
can improve the ecosystem
and make the world a better
place.
7. Anyone is capable of
helping the
environment, whether
it’s throwing trash into
cans, or picking up any
litter you see. Its little
things like this that
can save our planet.
We just need your
help.
