Polluters in Your Community
As I have did my research on the Scorecard: The Pollution Information Site, I have the
found top polluters and chemicals that are being released into my county. The top five polluters
that are being released into my county are Great Lakes Chemical Central, Lion Oil Co., El
Dorado Chemical Co, Copper-Standard Automotive and Great Lakes Chemical South Plant. The
top five chemicals that are being released in Union County are methanol, nitrate, ammonia,
dichloromethane and xylene (mixed Isomers). I have determined that there is one Superfund site
in my area, which is Popile, Inc.
There are many ways for individuals to take action in their community to keep it from
being polluted. According to my information I gathered from Scorecard: The Pollution
Information Site, the five ways I would take action in my community includes the following:
Reaching out to these companies whether it`s by phone, e-mail, or a visit to the
plant to inform them of how much damage they are causing our community.
I would put forth to contact my governor or the mayor of my county if the issues
is not resolved when contacting the companies who are polluting in my county.
I would try contacting the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), which is a
government agency that is concerned with the American environment and impact
on health for them to come up with guidelines that will ensure to prevent from
these companies from polluting the air.
I would attempt to work together with those in my community to see what it is we
could do to help out to keep our environment clean.
