Copyright gives the creator control over how their work is used. Fair use allows limited use of copyrighted works for educational purposes without permission. For students, fair use includes using portions of works for classroom assignments, as long as it is for educational needs, a small portion of the work is used, and the use does not harm sales of the original. Educational multimedia projects created by students can be used and displayed for educational purposes but require permission for other uses. When using images, videos, or music from works, students must limit the portions used based on guidelines and properly cite the sources. Permission is needed when uses go beyond these fair use guidelines.

7. Permission_When/How When should you get permission? When to use the project for commercial or noneducational purposes. When to duplicate the project more than the two copies. When to distribute the project beyond the guidelines. How do you get permission? Inside of school, you can fill out a Reserved Readings Request form to request copyright permission.
