The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is an event where participants raise a minimum of $75 in donations by jumping into icy Illinois lakes in winter to support Special Olympics athletes. Over 8,100 people have raised nearly $2.5 million over 10 years for Special Olympics Illinois athletes by taking part. In 2009, 17 Polar Plunges will take place from February 28 to March 21 at various lake locations around the state.
