Plessy v. Ferguson Supreme Court Case on Segregation

3. -Plessy is a 7/8 white person attempted to sit in an all-white
railroad car. He didn’t want to sit in a black carrage car and he
refused to go railway. He was arrested for violating an 1890
Lousiana statute that provided for segregated. Those using
facilities not designated for their race were criminally liable
under the statute.
-Plessy was then found guilty and the law said it was
reasonable for the police to report this and Plessy filed a
petition for writs of prohibition and certiorari in the supreme
court against ferguson in Louisiana, they asserted that
segregation stigmatized blacks and labled them with a badge
of inferiority in violation of the thirteenth and fourteenth
amendments. The court found for Ferguson and the supreme
court granted cert.

• This relates to “To kill a Mockingbird” because
there is often racism and how whites can
refuse to participate with blacks but there
ignorance is brought to justice just like Bob
Ewell and now Ferguson both hating blacks
and both receiving some sort of punishment
and that is how the Plessy v. Ferguson case
relates to “To kill a mockingbird”.
