Key points: travel can cause stress, which in turn can affect your mental health, support may be harder to find -> keep in mind resources are available; check in with your insurance company before you go to confirm your coverage, and check in with your mental health professional if you’re working with one too
The Research Excursions Program (REP), provides the opportunity for students to engage in off campus, small-group, faculty-led research during the summer term. The research excursions can take place domestically or internationally. Students in their third year are eligible to apply. As this is a research course, 0.5 or 1 credit, students are required to pay regular tuition fees, but all the student travel expenses are covered by the Faculty of Arts and Science. The student application timeframe for summer 2024 REP projects is from February to March 2024. This would be a great opportunity for those who are looking for research experience as well as want to travel!
This is the list of REP projects that took place this past summer. As you can see, professors and students travelled to Austria, Italy, Dominican Republic, Kenya, as well as domestically in Algonquin and Quebec for their research. The REP list for next summer may look differently and please visit our website in February 2024 to learn more. Make sure you put a reminder in your calendar to check out the REP project list in February 2024 so you don’t miss the application deadline.
The International and Indigenous Course Modules are a great way to enhance your course learning by participating in an international or indigenous field trip, over the Fall or Winter reading week. To participate, students are required to be enrolled in the course in which the IICM field trip is embedded, and submit an application to their course instructor. Student participants are asked to contribute $200 towards their IICM field trip on top of their regular tuition fees, and the travel expenses will be covered by Faculty of Arts and Science. Visit our website to learn more about the program and the list of courses that have an IICM field trip embedded. If you have all the courses planned out for 2023-24 academic year, that’s no problem, you can keep an eye on our website, and the IICM course list for 2024-25 academic year will be released in summer 2024.
