4. ~William Shakespeare~
William Shakespeare is the writer of the following play. He wrote this play around the 1590’s. He was a famous writer
and actor during his time and still is today. He wrote more than 30 plays. He did that for 20 years and retired from theatre in 1612. He
was one of the best writers in his time.
The first performance that he did no one really liked. In 1592 there is evidence that he earned a living as an actor and a
playwright in London. He possibly had two plays produced in that time. In 1597 he had 15 of 37 plays published that were attributed
to him. In 1599, him and his partners built their own theatre on the south bank of Thames River. They called it “The Globe”.
While he worked in London he only came home once a year to Stratford- Upon- Avon. He was tied between his family
there and his work in London.
All his plays were written in the conventional style of the day. Most of his first plays were historians written in the
early 1590’s. William wrote several comedies during his early period. Later, in the 1600’s, he wrote the tragedies like, one of his famous
plays, Hamlet. In William’s final period he wrote several tragicomedies, which he was made fun of for combining comedy and tragedy
in to one. Most writings were not noticed as genius until the 19th century.
People started to question if William Shakespeare really was who he said he was in the 18th century. More than 50
names have been said as the “real” William Shakespeare.
