2. Plant Flow Layout Improvement
Plant had 3 Significant problems with the shop floor organization.
1. The plant bottleneck was washing. This was due to a mismatch in the
capacity of the washers and the volumes required. A value stream
analysis was done to determine the bottleneck, the cause and the
solution.
2. The two stroke engine housings were made in a one man one
machine method that left much free time for the operator. A standard
work project was done to demonstrate that one man could run two
machines.
3. Four stroke engine housings and assemblies were also done on a one
man per machine basis. It was found through value stream analysis
of the assembly that the honing, assembly, OP 30 and wash could be
put together in one work cell.
