Machine Control
Hawk Plant is leading the industry when it comes to the use of on-board machine control technology.
Through our partnership with Leica Geosystems we are helping our customers to:
• Increase productivity
• Reduce costs
• Increased fuel efficiency
• Improve health and safety
• Complete projects on time and on budget
“Hawk are Leading the Industry
in the use of Technology”
For the operator, machine control systems use technology to guide and control machinery which means operators can
accurately direct and position the machine to work more accurately and precisely –
optimising material usage and reducing operating costs.
Machine control further reduces the need for people to work in and around the equipment removing staff away from
dangerous areas.
Machine control is just one example of Hawk using innovation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our customer’s
operation. Through our in-house training centre we can also provide demonstrations and training on machine control
systems.

TRAINING &
DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY
• Innovation: Pioneering technology
• Sustainability: Working today... for tomorrow
• Safety: Safety First
• Quality: Committed to excellence
• Environment: Consider, respect, care
• Training & Development: People at the heart of our business
• Community: Being a good corporate citizen
Pioneering technology
Technology has the potential to transform the way we work and we have long embraced new technology as a route
towards becoming a safer, more efficient and better organisation.
An example of this is machine control technology which – through our partnership with Leica Geosystems – we have
been leading the industry in the use of for over five years. Through the use of onboard machine control systems we
are able to make our machines and the projects we work on:
• Safer
• More productive
• More efficient
In June 2011 the UK government published its BIM (Business Information Modelling) strategy, announcing its intention
to require collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on
its projects by 2016.
With just two years to go, BIM will have more and more of an impact on the construction and engineering industries
and our background of adopting the latest technology means that The Hawk Group are well placed to adopt BIM
working practices for both our customers and our own operations.
INNOVATION
Working today…for tomorrow
The Hawk values are present throughout the Group and they reflect our commitment to sustainability. After over 40 years in
business we have seen a lot of changes which is why we recognise that a focus on sustainability is more important than ever: for
our business, our employees, the environment, our community ... and our customers.
How we approach sustainability
By working in partnership with the community we strive to achieve beneficial outcomes and community legacies that exist long
after our project teams have moved on. We achieve this by delivering on our promise with integrity, honesty and sensitivity.
FOSTERING STRONG AND MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS IS A CORE VALUE OF THE HAWK GROUP.
There is a lot of talk about sustainability throughout all industry sectors – but what does it actually mean? For the Hawk Group,
sustainability is about working in a way today which enhances the world in which we work and live in for the future:
• For our business
• For our employees
• For the environment
• For the community
From our employees, to the way that we use technology, we take an all-encompassing view of sustainability, which is why it is a
common theme of all the Hawk values and is a central consideration in the work that we do. We do not simply want to complete
projects, but instead we want to leave a legacy of work which enriches local communities, boosts commerce and is something
we can look back on with pride and a sense of achievement.
SUSTAINABILITY
Safety first
Safety is the fundamental principal of how we work, it comes before all other considerations and is truly at the heart
of our business. This is demonstrated by the fact that Safety & Training – which provides safety training, testing and
consultancy – is part of the Hawk Group of companies.
We recognise we work within a hazardous environment and treat our responsibility towards the safety and welfare of
both our own and our customer’s employees with the utmost importance.
Hawk Group have an exemplary Health & Safety record and this is coupled with a dedicated in-house team who
look to ensure we continue to deliver health and safety excellence.
Ways in which we look to enhance the safety of our operation include:
• Training and education of our employees to ensure they have the skills, knowledge and qualifications to
adhere to the safest working practices
• Providing equipment fitted and maintained to the highest standards of health and safety
• Actively encourage our business partners to promote good health and safety practices as part of supplier
	 approval and monitoring procedures
These initiatives and many more are reinforced by our comprehensive health and safety policy in order to provide
and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, visitors and customers.
SAFETY
Committed to excellence
From the machines on our fleet to our team of 700 employees throughout the globe we pride ourselves on delivering the
highest levels of quality to our customers.
We deliver on quality by putting our focus firmly on our customers. We invest the time and resources in getting to know our
customers: their objectives, demands and challenges. We then take this understanding and turn it into bespoke solutions
tailored to each customers’ unique requirements.
It is by investing in this knowledge and understanding that allows us to evolve our products and services, to meet the
ever-changing and increasingly complex project challenges which exist within our industry.
This focus on delighting customers is reflected in the numerous accreditations which the Hawk Group has achieved:
• Constructionline Approved
• CHAS Approved
• Achilles Approved
• ISO 9001 18001 Approved
• ISO 14001 Approved
QUALITY
Consider, respect, care
From operating a modern, technologically advanced fleet through to our comprehensive recycling programme, we continually
strive to reduce the environmental impact of our machines, our projects and our office locations.
This commitment is reflected in our detailed environmental policy which sets clearly defined environmental roles and
responsibilities towards respecting the environmental demands of our community and wider society.
We know that actions speak louder than words which is why our environmental activities include:
• We partner closely with organisations such as the Environment Agency to ensure our projects are completed to
the highest standards of environmental care
• We encourage our business partners to pursue best practice and offer advice and training to support them in
	 adopting environmental friendly solutions
• We use cutting edge technology both inside and outside of our machines to ensure projects are completed to
	 optimum levels of efficiency
• We train and educate our employees and our customers to help them include environmental considerations in
all the aspects of their work
• We have a comprehensive waste management and recycling policy
• We remain responsive to changes in legislation, working methods and available technology to ensure our
processes remain at the forefront of environmental best practice

ENVIRONMENT
People are at the heart of our business

worldwide – undertook over 3840 hours of training between them. What’s more, through Safety and Training – one of the
eleven companies in the Hawk Group – we are proud to be able to offer a wide range of construction and professional
training courses not just to Hawk employees; but to colleges, businesses and individuals throughout the UK.
We have strong links with local colleges and we are a dedicated supporter of apprenticeship schemes and graduate
