I will be using Eras Light ITC for the interview. I have used Eras Medium ITC
on my front cover and I wanted to carry this font throughout the
magazine.
Standfirst
There have been many young artists arriving in a flash and disappearing
even faster. But, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of Dominic
Dunn
Introduction I would like to have a big M at the beginning of this with the other words working around it.
Many people see young artists like Dominic Dunn fade into the shadows
alongside Lil Chris and are never seen again. The inspiring interview really made
me think that this isn't just a public talent show, he is here to stay. Without a
doubt it will be tricky to handle school work and fame but when talent like this is
revealed it is hard to keep quiet.
3. Interview
What inspired you to write and perform your own songs?
That’s quite a hard to be honest (he paused). Erm... I guess, going to gigs, listening to
music. My grandad plays so... He never played anywhere big, just gigs around town and
that. So he is also a great inspiration.
What is your favourite song to listen to and why?
Away from the tides, because I wrote it (he chuckled to himself). I just love to perform and
the vibe that comes with it
Because you are so young, did you find it hard to get your music out there?
Yeah, it was very hard at first, erm, in a way. But luckily, i look a lot older than i am (he
laughs).I got into a lot of venues based on my contacts with the promoters. When i started to
play, it was more about the music than my age.
How long have you been singing?
I have been playing and singing since I was 8, that's when my first gig was.
What gigs have you seen yourself?
Well the earliest one i can remember is busted, I loved them, still do, and I’ve got all the
albums.
When and where is your next gig?
I have one on the 7th of December
4. What is the best place you have performed?
Too many places, cant name them all. Every venue that I have been to has had such a
great atmosphere. In some places I will have to leave at 9 because i am under 18, but a
lot of places are alright with it and say at the gig venue I can stay because I have
performed.
How do you feel before a performance?
There is always an ounce of nerves but as I have been playing its, I get more
experienced, I begin to get used to it. I remember my first gig and I went on stage
shaking, but as I started playing my nerves started to die down. I started watching others
and developing some skills to deal with the nerves
How often would you practice before a performance?
I play guitar every night and I'm my spare time. Erm, because I'm still at school, when I
finish my homework, I just relax and play music.
I have heard people compare you to Mumford and Sons and Vampire Weekend,
would you agree?
Yeah, I would agree, they do inspire me. I listen to them all the time alongside other
artists like Simon and Garfunkel, I like to compare myself to them.
What is your favourite band at the moment?
There are too many! Erm... Humming birds... But I really don't want to name any so i
don't miss any out and regret it after and feel guilty.
5. If you could meet any band or artist, dead or alive, who would it be?
Probably the rat pack, I love jazz musicians
Will you remain Dominic Dunn?
Yeah, keep it simple. I'll stay Dominic Dunn
Finally., does your fashion reflect your music?
Not really, as you can see now, I am wearing an Hawaiian shirt. So not really no. But the more
i have performed, my fashion has changed a little.
