Planning – Casting/Costuming/Props
Casting I will use a opportunity sample to choose my actors. I will use two actors of a similar age and build to show their similarities but also to highlight their differences, this combined with my costuming should create a feeling that these characters are two sides of the same coin. I plan to use Aydon Davies as the Reaper and Jeremy Ratcliffe as the good character.
Costumes I plan to have my main actor’s outfit a simple design. He will wear jeans and a white t-shirt to denote life/goodness. I will use this simple costume design so he represents a average person. I plan to have my second actor wearing the same outfit as the first but with a black t-shirt, this will denote death/corruption. This use of similar outfits will show how the characters are similar but have taken different choices in life. The third actor’s outfit, who plays the reaper will follow the design that my magazine cover used; a black suit representing deaths, funerals and corruption. This imagery is perfect in showing what the character is without the use of special effects.
Props Sketches – draw some at home – scan in
Props I plan to have a makeshift torch to light, this will represent the character’s struggle against the coming darkness. If my torch does not work effectively, I will, after careful consideration over the risks, use a deodorant can with a match to create a makeshift flamethrower. Other props I plan to use are –Candles – these will set a ominous atmosphere to the ritual scene. These will also have a practical purpose of giving light to the dark set I will be working on. I also plan to use druidic stones to add to the realism of the ritual, as these pagan stones with symbols carved on them combined with the location I plan to use, make the scene look effective and believable.
