A talk delivered by Rocco Labellarte, Head of Technology and Change Delivery, Corporate Services at Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. This presentation was given at Cloud Control: Implementing Cloud Computing, a seminar hosted by Civil Service World and Eduserv.
Topics covered include the process of building a case for cloud, the benefits and lessons learnt.
Technology is evolving and changing at a very rapid pace, and it is more important than ever to ensure that mission critical back-end mainframe applications can exploit these new and disruptive technologies to transform digitally and deliver real value to the business, and to customers. DevOps on z Systems is a key enabler for the API economy and hybrid cloud. In this session we will discuss how DevOps can transform application delivery on z Systems, mitigate risk, and elevate the ability to respond quickly to customer expectations through continuous improvement"
Modernising the Enterprise: An Evening with the AWS Enterprise User GroupHarley Young
The French aristocrat, writer, and aviator, Antoine De Saint-Exupery most famously wrote The Little Prince. He's also credited with the following quote, "If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men and women to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea." Cloud modernisation is a little bit like building that ship. You can't merely command an organisation to pick up its applications and move to the cloud. Instead, you must teach them to yearn for the vast and endless potential the cloud provides to build whatever they can imagine for their business.
In the presentation, I explain a 5-step approach that has been used to transform and modernise some of the world's most successful businesses in nearly all imaginable industry verticals as they contemplated a move to the AWS cloud:
1. Know your business
2. Understand your environment
3. Prepare the organisation
4. Move the first workloads to the cloud

WSO2Con USA 2017: Positioning WSO2 for Quicker UptakeWSO2
WSO2’s product packaging, positioning, and go-to-market activities are undergoing some significant evolution to make it easier to explain how WSO2 satisfies business needs. In this session we’ll share what motivated these changes and how we expect to bring new business with a fine tuned presentation of products, platforms, and subscription services.
Lily Craps, responsible for the Mainframe outsourcing project at SDWorx, explains how the moving of their mainframe to a shared environment at NRB, enabled ‘economies of scale’ on infrastructure costs for hardware and software. She describes the process, from starting the outsourcing study, over the RFI/RFP process, the selection of the provider, the contract negotiations and the migration project, next to the criteria for choosing NRB and an Infrastructure As A Service –cloud model.

IT landscapes tend to be more and more complex. The need for data access anywhere at any time forces us to use new technologies, adopt cloud solutions and integrate existing legacy systems. Agile processes, rapid deployment and the tools to support them have become a priority, over more a need, for companies.
To maintain these landscapes, the need for Release Management Automation arises.
CamundaCon 2018: Rule-Based Data Processing with DMN and Camunda (GVL)camunda services GmbH
Presented by David Hammer, Robert Breske
The GVL aggregates millions of usage reports for musical and cinematographic works from various sources every year. To cope with this amount of incoming data, a transparent and audit-proof data aggregation system was desired to be built. The solution was a DMN rule-based approach embedded in camunda's proccess engine framework, altogether with an audit-proof storage of the process history data. This system is capable of simulating the process flow for any processed data record at any later point in time, in case of a need for revision or validation. The GVL currently runs this scalable system with a troughput of more than one million daily process instances.

Virtualization to Cloud with SDDC Operations Management and Service ProvisioningVMware
IT as a Service (ITaaS) is a journey, not a one-time implementation. This presentation shows how, over time and with expanded adoption, VMware's customers are becoming more virtualized and decreasing costs with greater ROI.
Enterprise data is often the backbone to providing timely and effective information for any enterprise application landscape, but we struggle to integrate our vital and often diverse sources of information to our applications in a timely and effective manner.
No more.
Whether you are a Data Analyst, Business Analyst or in IT Strategy, this webinar will illustrate how easy it is to integrate disparate data spread across your organization when modeling and automating your business processes with modern BPM tools.

WSO2Con USA 2017: Providing a Pathway from Stovepipe Systems to a Secure SOA ...WSO2
Eagle Technology Group (TG) has provided IT services to many large organizations, including the US Department of Defense, the US Department of Justice, and other state government and large commercial business entities. Many of these organizations are stifled by years of development of stovepipe systems using outdated technologies. These systems are the result of cumbersome funding processes, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational politics. These organizations have spent millions of dollars and many, many years building the systems they have. Many of these systems have been built largely without thought to integration. In most cases, the preferred solution to this problem is to develop distributed services-based systems. However, these systems will need to be incorporated with existing legacy systems in a way that allows the two worlds to coexist, giving the organization time to wean itself off its legacy systems. Eagle TG has shown organizations that it is possible to migrate to a secure distributed software development/deployment methodology – one that features ‘services’ – using open source enterprise SOA middleware. This session will explore how by using WSO2 products to provide a viable platform, Eagle TG is helping organizations embrace this services development methodology. With little startup cost, quick availability, security, scalability, and robust, efficient operations, WSO2 provides a winning solution.
Which Cloud? It All Starts with Assessing Application ReadinessGravitant, Inc.
One of the more challenging aspects of cloud adoption is identifying if an application is a good fit for cloud, and what cloud is the best. Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
