This document describes a startup called Study Calculator that aims to help students easily compare the total costs of studying abroad in different countries and universities. It plans to build a website where students can input their study preferences and see matched university programs along with automatically calculated costs for tuition, living expenses, scholarships, etc. Universities would provide their program details and pay an annual subscription fee to be included. The founders believe there is a large market opportunity as the number of international students is growing significantly. They are seeking $200,000 in funding to develop the website, conduct marketing, and launch mobile apps with the goal of profiting from university subscriptions within 3 years.
We are developing an online platform, called Handshake, to connect the large community of English speaking secondary school students through their passions, experiences and skills. After inputting their own interests, passions, and experiences (e.g., debate, public speaking, entrepreneurship, photography, magazine editor, member of St. Paul’s College choir, UNICEF volunteer), students can then search for other students in Hong Kong and around the world who have similar interests and passions, thus opening up the possibility to connect, form city-wide and world-wide collaborative ventures between school societies, and share ideas for projects. Furthermore, SMEs and startups can post advertisements under the “internships” section for freelance working students (published upon review), and companies offering student services, such as tutoring centers, can post advertisements (published upon review).
Top European MBA Programs on Chinese Social MediaKAWO.com
In May 2013, the KAWO team executed a market research across 15 European Business Schools on Chinese social media and their followers’ engagement patterns on these platforms. The 15 Schools were analysed across the most popular social network in China: Sina Weibo, and were ranked according to their digital competency through 3 different categories.
All data was analysed in the period between May 1st and May31st 2013.
China’s rapid economic development has shined the spotlight on the shortage of managerial and leadership talent in the country. It’s become evident that China needs more people with international business skills, entrepreneurial drive and a strong network in countries that are economically important. As a consequence, there has been a growing interest of Chinese students to attend Western business schools and to discover more about their prospected academic careers, often through the communication channel deemed most trustworthy: social media.
In this study, we have considered 15 of the top European Business Schools present on Chinese social media and evaluated their digital competencies in the market. The research measured each business school by assessing proficiency on 5 broad categories that determine their success with Chinese social network users.
The objective is to provide a robust tool to understand the digital strengths and weaknesses of European Business Schools, and help admission officers and students recruiters to achieve a greater return on investment of their social media strategies. As the numbers of Chinese students’ applications to Western Universities continues to rise, business schools need to measure the impact of their communication strategies on all the networks where their potential new candidates are.

An online flea market in higher education using c2 c e commerce model a requi...Struggler Ever
In higher education district, college students are special consumers. Second hand goods are their main needs while they are in college. Thereby public e-commerce websites may not fulfill their requirements. Trustworthiness and security, between e-commerce websites’ users, are also other issues that students, as buyers or sellers, are concerned about that public e-commerce users are still paying off its repercussions. Thus, it is essential to have an online flea market in higher education that specifically tailored to the students’ needs and demand. This study proposes a comprehensive requirements model that can be referred as guidelines to developing an online flea market for a higher education district. The methodology for constructing the requirements model involves four main phases, which are theoretical study, requirements elicitation, requirements’ analysis and requirement validation. The requirements model consists of several Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams, content, hypertext and presentation modeling; as well as list of requirements and use case description. The results form the requirements validation and it is very promising. Moreover, it demonstrated a significant efficiency of the requirements model towards a higher education district. After all, this work contributes to the requirements engineering domain specifically and to the body of software engineering generally.

Memorandum
SUBJECT: Study and Employment Opportunities Internationally
The topic that we are proposing is based on our program of International Commerce. Our topic involves international travel into the program. Our project is called “Developing Experience.”
This program does already include International travel opportunities through co-op and options to study abroad. Although, the options for the program do not seem easily accessible. The International co-op is very competitive and only a select few are able to have this opportunity. As well as too expensive for many students. The same goes for studying abroad. We believe that all the International Business programs should have a mandatory opportunity to work or study in another country and/or in Canada in an International Business setting. This does not include just through co-op placement, but during the school study year as well. We feel that our program needs more hands-on experience in our area of study. As well, we feel that the International opportunities are not recognized enough from the students. One possible idea includes field trips to a certain company that deals in International Business. This change in Niagara College for the International Business department will be very educational and beneficial to students. Students need up-front experience to better understand their specific area of study when they finally enter the workforce.
Some possible resources available to us are some of the International Business professors. Such as Dawit Eshetu who is the head of our program. We could also speak to students who graduated from this program and students who have previously completed an International co-op or who studied abroad through Niagara College. We could also contact other colleges or universities who have similar programs and opportunities to see how they organize this part of their programs. We can also ask International Business students how they feel about the international travel part of their program to ensure that there is a need for change.

Domain of One's Own @ Emory for TATTO 2015HeatherJulien
Presentation at Emory University TATTO// Introduction of Domain of One's Own @ Emory// by Heather Julien //Adapted from two presentations by Marc Bousquet, "Introduction to Domain of One's Own @ Emory" and "Citizen Science," presented to National Science Foundation Ideas Lab
How students search for and decide for a university has grown more complex: the search process and the consulted channels have multiplied.
UNIspotter conducted a study among 86 students (business; interested in pursuing a Master) to observe how they search, where they search and what they search for when deciding for a study program.
We discovered that the search process follows a pattern (4 stages):
- Browse universities (50+ programs)
- Narrow down the option (15-25 programs)
- Detailed Research: Compare (10 programs)
- (Pre-)Decision: Apply (on average 5 programs)
However, not all the touch points are considered equally relevant for the final decision.
The university of the future needs to attract top-talent in a rapidly changing market and needs to manage the information that impacts the future students' decision.
But: most of the time you are not even aware that potential students make decisions about you. Google calls this "The Zero Moment of Truth" - customers researching about you on the internet before they decide to buy a service.
How do students consider university rankings, accreditations, search engines, online portals and the direct contact with universities?
We want to provide you an insight into what we found out.
And input on how you can identify the customer journey your students have had as well as a check-list on how to find room for improvement.
We would be very happy to have your feedback about it!
I hope you find this issue to be informative and helpful in your work. Please send me any information you’d like posted in upcoming issues.

International Admissions 101 Communications & Outreach PlansMarty Bennett
International admissions offices, now more than ever, need to hone their strategic recruitment plans to meet their student (and parent) audiences where they spend their time. This pre-conference workshop session at OACAC helps outline those priorities for print, web, & social communications.
As part of the AKQA Future Academy we were set the brief by a recognised high street bank to create a product or service that would define the student experience of tomorrow. This was in order to help the client capture a greater proportion of the student market. We pushed back on the clients understanding of a student and presented to them our product, UpSkill.

3. Problem
With so many study options,

Erasmus exchange options,
universities – student’s most
important question is how much is
it going to cost me?
When comparing study
fees, students need to
look carefully at what’s
included and what’s not
and how much money they
need to spend in the
overall
A lot of university
websites are hard
to navigate and no
sufficient data with

unis
According to Forbes Magazine, the
cost of study abroad was cited as
the single largest non-academic
deterrent among students
Universityworldnews.com
notes that uncertainty
about additional costs,
personal relationships
and lack of financial
resources are mentioned
by the non-mobile
students as the main
rationale for not going
abroad
4. Cost of study - how it works now
A student from India wants to do a BA in Finance/Economics
abroad (loves Prague but also adores Italy) but doesn’t
know what the cost is:
1. Student goes to Charles Uni
website and Google searches for
studies in Italy - checks tuition
fees per year, scholarships*,
accommodation price*
*(usually not on uni website)
2. Then search on Google for
living costs in different
countries.
3. Then opens another tab
to search for scholarships.
4.And again another tab
to find visa costs
5. Now he
needs to add
the costs
and try to
work out the
overall price
of study in
each country
