• A pilot episode is a standalone episode that isn't part of the main series.
• The main features of pilot episodes are they have no major plot but instead act
as an introduction for the audience.
• Viewers are introduced to the main characters, the setting and
the initial themes in the series. It should also set up character
relationships and their personal wants/needs as it makes them more likeable/
intimate with the audience.
• Pilot episodes are also used to establish the pace, tone and atmosphere
of the forthcoming series as well as having an interesting hook and creating
suspense which leaves the audience wanting to continue the series.
• Provides a sort of blueprint for the rest of the series, setting up questions and
situations that are further explored as the show develops. It could also
use foreshadowing to allude to the plot that viewers would only find out later.
