The Hindu High School,
( now The Hindu Higher
Secondary School ) Big
Street, Triplicane is one of
the oldest Schools in India,
established by the East
India Company in the year
1852 with a different name
, and renamed “Hindu
High School “ in the year
1897, when an L-shaped
large School Building was
completed. The School
has a great tradition and
eminent personalities viz.
M/S G N Balasubramaniam,
Carnatic Vocalist, S
Chandrasekhar, Nobel
Laureate, Kasthuri
Srinivasan, Founder, THE
HINDU, etc. happen to be
the alumni of this great
School. Distinguished
men like Sri. Rt. Hon'ble
V.S.Srinivasa Sastri
served the School as
Headmasters. The School
Building is now included
as one of the Heritage
buildings in Tamilnadu.
The 1965 SSLC Batch
mates of the School is
presently planning to
celebrate this year as the
Golden Jubilee year of
their passing out from the
School. A few of the batch
mates have joined together
and are taking all out efforts
to locate their batch friends.
The Group, named BAT65,
has already enlisted about
100 batch mates residing
all over India and outside.
The total strength of 1965
batch mates is 437, who
studied in 10 sections.
A Core Committee of
members has been
formed not only to devise
strategies to trace the
remaining friends, but also
to chalk out programmes
for celebrating the Golden
Jubilee, sometime in
November/ December
2015, which time is most
suitable for participation
by USA based batch mates
also.
The mouth-watering and
emotive prospects of the
reunion of the mates is
driving the members to
go all out to establish
contacts with as many
mates as possible, so as
to provide the opportunity
to every one of the batch
mates to enjoy the reunion.
Presently, maximum
number of contacts enlisted
belong to A Section, group
photo of which is appearing
here. Each member has
taken up the responsibility
of roping in at least 2 or
3 new members. Most of
the students were residing
in Triplicane and nearby
areas and the existing
members are scouting the
area gathering information
to know the where about of
the friends.
S.Ramarathinam, who is
coordinating the enrolment
of Batch mates, has the
unique experience of
accidentally meeting a
stranger, working in a
Pillaiyar Temple at Porur,
who turned out to be a
1965 batch mate. There
are also some, who belong
to the batch, but are having
reservations and not willing
to share information about
them. The excitement of
meeting the old mates
during the reunion and the
nostalgia of the School life
is acting as a catalyst in
establishing contacts of the
rest of the batch mates.
The Core Committee
members of BAT65 are
chalking out programmes
for the Golden Jubilee
celebrations and under
consideration arehonouring
the two Teachers, who
taught the batch and
are alive, to bring out a
Souvenir on the occasion,
...Hindu High School Triplicane Chennai 1965
to extend financial help
to some of the poor and
meritoriously deserving
students who are presently
studying in the school, to
provide some funds for
improving the infrastructure
and facilities of the school
etc. The Committee also
plan to continue the
association of the batch
mates, beyond the Golden
Jubilee, to render service
for social causes.
The Committee has
set a goal to enlarge
the strength beyond
200 members. HHS,

4. The 28-year-old Preethi
a resident of saidapet,
student of Diploma in
Engineering, becomes
loco pilot as she steered
the inaugural Chennai
Metro train safely to its
destination.
Preethi went through
training in Chennai and
Delhi for the job and it was
good to see her dream
come true.
Preethi was behind the
wheel today when the
Chennai Metro rolled out
for the first time on a signal
from Tamil Nadu chief
minister J Jayalalithaa.
At around 12.15 pm, the
Chief Minister, who was
connected through video
conference from her
office, pressed a button
and on cue, 28-year-old
Preethi drove the train
out of the Alandur station.
A year and a half of
training has built up to this
moment.
I feel happy and proud,
Preethi told , informing
that she drives at a speed
of 80 km and drives
safe.
It is her mother who feels
like flying. I really do.
Earlier we thought it was
too dangerous as she
has to take care of more
than 300 passengers.
Now I am proud. She is
trained, Preethi's mother
A Shanthi said.
Preethi, who has a
diploma in engineering,
quit her first job and
applied to the Chennai
Metro. She was the first
woman to get selected,
said her father.
From the Alandur metro
station, Preethi drove
the train to Koyambedu,
covering the 10 km
stretch in 18 minutes.
Officials said with four
coaches, the train will
have a capacity of 1,276
passengers.
The first phase was
launched today; the two
corridors in this phase will
cover a 45-km stretch.
The corridors will be
partly underground and
partly elevated, and cost
Rs. 16,500 crore.
The second corridor is
likely to be ready by the
end of this year.
Urban Development
Minister Venkaiah Naidu
had said earlier that the
Centre has approved
a nine-km extension
of phase 1 to include
Thiruvottiyur from
Washermenpet. However,
it was not included.

Sirpam Foundation,
an registered non-

T.Nagar is involved in
various public welfare
activities and this time it
is time for environmental
conservation.
The event was aimed
at planting 10 tree
sapling and 4 plants at
Kaveri High School and
nearby Municipal Park in
Saligramam on June 7,
2015.
With all the background
work on getting necessary
approvals at Kaveri High
School and the park,
arranging for the saplings,
tools for digging pits and
checking the area for
planting with respect to
sunlight, water facility
and soil were done in a
progressive manner. All
that was done in the day
was to dig a pit, plant and
water it, more importantly
to spread the awareness.
Generally planting
saplings are done in out
skirts of Chennai, this time
it was carried within the
city in close proximity. And
this gave an opportunity
for many to participate. It
was encouraging knowing
many had the desire to
change the world and in
preserving the depleting
environment.
All volunteers gathered
in front of Kaveri high
school, Saligramam by
9.30 a.m.
Mr. S.Vijayaraghavan,
MA.BL, retired Legal
officer MTC, Ex-
president of Lion's club ,
Saligramam was invites
as Chief Guest for the
Event. He has conducted
many social awareness
program as well as blood
donation camps in his
tenure. He is also Member
of Bar Council and
Consumer Association,
as well as leading lawyer
in Madras High Court.
Mrs. M. Bhanumathi,
Headmistress, Kaveri
High School, who was
honoured with National
award for teachers by the
Department of Human
Resource Development,
Govt. of India. and other
Teaching Staff were kind
enough to accept our invite
and support the Event.
A brief note on the
saplings to be planted,
its usage and importance
was delivered by Mr.
S.Vijayaraghavan.
All volunteers started
the work by 10 a.m.
Work was divided among
everyone and started off.
Loosening the soil with the
crow bar, digging the pit
with hoe/spade, planting
the sapling, covering the
pit with manure mixed
in the soil, tightening the
soil by applying pressure
and mulching to avoid
evaporation of water
was done. This process
continued for 2 full hours.
By 12 noon, a short break
for refreshment was taken
and resumed shortly
to plant the remaining
saplings at the nearby
municipal park.
Mr. Still Siva, still
photographer, who
worked under Director
Vikraman was invited
to start off the sapling
plantation at park. He
has worked in couple of
movies, namely, Poovey
Unakaaga and Jilla.
Few volunteers
requested for saplings to
be planted at their home.
This would help them in
creating a close bond
with nature and conserve
the environment. By 1
p.m.work was completed
with full satisfaction and
the team headed to
homes with a broad smile
and a greener future. A
special thanks to Mrs. M.
Bhanumathi, who was
supportive in obtaining
approvals from the
School Management in a
short span of time and Mr.
S.Vijayaraghavan, who
was generous enough
to accept our invite and
motivate our cause. A
very special thanks to all
the volunteers who made
it to the event and made
it fruitful in the best way
possible. Little drops of
water make a mighty
ocean; every small
sapling makes an oxygen
filled world tomorrow.

and Soul clean and to
accumulate Punniya
to our account. When
we participate in this
sacred deed definitely
Hanumanji would be
happy to bless us.
The temple Incharge
praised Mathaji’s
devotion to Hanumanji
and the noble cause
she has taken up by
installation of 108
Hanuman Chalisa
Stones Prathista.
Mathaji expressed her
desire that besides
installing these
Hanuman Chalisa
Stones in temples, we
need to install these
Tablets in Educational
Institutions and
Hospitals where
people actually
need Hanumanji’s
Blessings. Therefore, it
is decided to approach
the institutions and
Hospitals for this
noble cause. Venuji
announced the
donors’ names who
have donated amount
for the installation
of Hanuman Chalisa
stone prathista.
Mathaji said that in
this busy world we need
peace and happiness in
our life. We are running
against time without
any goal or purpose.
Our forefathers have
given us the precious
Hindu culture but
earlier generations
have not explained the
values and benefits
of our religion to the
present generation. At
least now we should
awake and spread the
Hindu religion and
culture to all in this
world. Many people
from other countries
are interested in
Hinduism but our own
people do not recognize
the importance.
So, installing these
Hanuman Chalisa
Stones in many places
would definitely spread
the awareness and
importance of our
religion and Hanumanji
– our Global Friend.
JAI SHREE HANUMAN.

Engagements
Colleges affiliated
to Anna University
reopens on 1st July
2015. Freshmen (1st
year students) mature
into Sophomore (2nd
year students) that
day. Having stepped
into their respective
departments, they
now face the rigor
of engineering
c u r r i c u l u m .
E l e c t r o m a g n e t i c
Theory is one such
challenging subject,
which EEE stream
students have to face
in the 3rd semester.
Satya Education
and Consulting, an
organization committed
to simplify the
engineering education
and show the beauty in
it, has come up with a
unique, exam-oriented,
student-friendly book,
says its Managing
Director and Author,
Mr. V.Satyanathan. In
fact, he himself was a
popular lecturer way
back, around 2006-07.
This book specifically
and completely
covers the Anna
University syllabus for
the course EE6302
E l e c t r o m a g n e t i c
Theory. The content
of the book and the
syllabus of the course
will match perfectly,
except for additional
topic section, which is
meant for inclusion of
ECEsyllabus–“EC6403
Electromagnetic Fields”
for 4th semester ECE
students. What makes
it unique, opinions
the author is, “We
have analyzed the last
five years question
papers, categorized the
theory questions and
problems chapterwise
and provided the
theory questions in the
footnote, against the
respective topic in each
chapter; while solved
university problems
are provided at the
respective chapter
end”.
The author has taken
care to provide step
by step derivations
and solutions to the
problems, without
omitting any steps.
Special emphasis have
been given on making
the student understand
the concepts clearly.
Simple and straight
forward language has
been used throughout
the book. Author has
provided the approach
methodology (step by
step procedure) for
solving a particular
type of problems at
appropriate place in
each and every chapter.
In short, the author
feels that this one book
is more than sufficient
for students to score
good marks and develop
an appreciation of the
subject.
Electrical Circuit
Theory is another book
written specifically
for Anna University
students, which
they can use for 2nd
semester course
“EE6201 Circuit
Theory” and that
also has the features
mentioned above.

Two Quality Books for Anna
University Students Released
In a glitzy and high
profile function, the
multi-talented and ever
youthful Kamal Haasan
launched a Crime Thriller
Novel in the name of “No
Murdertonight” authored
by his friend and colleague
Gollapudi Maruthi Rao’s
son Gollapudi Subba
Rao. Well acclaimed
Cinematographer and
Film Maker Rajiv Menon
was also present at the
launch.
While talking about his
debut Novel, Gollapudi
Subba Rao said, It was
an idea that was pushed
into in making of a murder
mystery by my good
friend Rajiv Menon. No
Murder Tonight is as
Chennai-centric as it can
get. How many English
crime novels can you
think of, that have been
set in Chennai? Not many
at all. I consider myself
lucky in that sense that I
have been able to write
one. Since I have been
living here for 40 years, I
knew I could give shape
to the characters better if
the story is set here, make
them rooted to the culture
and seem real. Setting the
backdrop required more
effort than just collating
the experience over the
years. So, I had to do lot
of research on my own.
All this, combined with
whatever I have read
in the newspapers and
magazines, and seen with
my own eyes. I have used
it all in the book.
He also added that to
understand the nuances
of crime fiction writing, he
underwent a one week
course at Manchester in
UK. Here he met people
from different parts of
the world who had a
very unique perception
of crime based on their
background.
Kamal Haasan said,
“It was an interesting
development that Subba
Rao hailing from the well-
known Gollapudi family
has penned this crime
novel.” Going back into
history, he mentioned
that Vaduvur Duraisamy
Iyengar was a pioneer
in writing such Crime
Thrillers even before
Sujatha, but it was all
in Tamil. Therefore an
English Crime thriller from
a fellow Chennaite is a
happy augury.
Rajiv Menon who went
to school with Subba
Rao mentioned about
the entrepreneurial spirit
Subba Rao displayed
in his school days. But
he never ever thought in
future, he will don the role
of a writer and produce
such a thrilling novel.
Gollapudi Maruthi Rao,
Subba Rao’s father said
that during his younger
days, writing was a no-
no and almost a taboo.
But. In 40 years, he has
produced some of the
finest works in Telugu,
which has also been made
into films. He wished his
son Subba Rao all the
very best.
Author Profile:
A post graduate with
an MPhil in English
Literature, G.V. Subba
Rao hails from a family
that’s deeply steeped in
music and the arts. His
father, Gollapudi Maruthi
Rao, is a well-known
Telugu author, award-
winning playwright and
screenplay writer, as well
as a film actor of repute.
His grandfather, Padma
Bhushan Dr. Sripada
Pinnakapani, was a
doyen of Carnatic music.
Rao is also Managing
Trustee of the ‘Gollapudi
Srinivas Memorial
Foundation’ instituted in
memory of his brother
Gollapudi Srinivas. This
foundation confers the
annual ‘Gollapudi Srinivas
National Award’ for the
‘Best Debut Director’ in
India and has been doing
so for the past seventeen
years.
It is no surprise that this
businessman and avid
traveller turned to writing,
penning travelogues
for newspapers and
magazines. His articles
have been published in
the Deccan Chronicle,
The Hans India and the
Ashvarttha, a wellness
magazine.
Rao now turns an author
with this debut novel, ‘No
Murder Tonight’, an edge-
of-the-seat thriller.

Tonight” by Gollapudi Subba Rao
