This study analyzed the relationship between patient demographics, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure (BP) in order to raise awareness of racial disparities in hypertension and obesity. The study found that obese and hypertensive African Americans made up 50% of their respective categories, double/triple the rates of Caucasians and 9 times the rates of Asians. The results suggest African Americans have a higher risk of heart disease due to higher rates of obesity and hypertension compared to other races.
