Phishing is a cybercrime where an individual is contacted, usually via email or text message, by someone posing as a legitimate institution to trick them into providing sensitive personal or financial information. Phishers use social engineering techniques and information found on social media profiles to learn about their targets and make phishing messages appear authentic. Successful phishing emails can be difficult to distinguish from real messages as they often include corporate logos and links designed to look like they go to the spoofed organization in order to steal users' data and credentials.
