Founded in 1891 in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Philips is an electronics company headquartered in Amsterdam. It was started by Gerard Philips and his father Frederik Philips and later expanded by Gerard's brother Anton Philips. Philips produces consumer electronics, domestic appliances, medical systems, lighting, and medical technology. It entered the Indian market in 1930 and has since established factories and innovation centers in India, currently being led by Managing Director Rajeev Chopra.

 In 1895 Gerard’s younger brother Anton Philips entered
the family business at the age of 16.
 Since then it expanded rapidly resulting,

9. PHILIPS IN INDIA
 It started in India at Kolkata in 1930 named as Philips
Electrical company (I) Pvt. Ltd.
 It comprised staff of 75 and was sales outlet for Philips lamp
imported from overseas.
 In 1938=>Philips India set up its first Indian lamp
manufacturing factory in Kolkata.
 In 1948 => First radio factory started in Kolkata.
 In 1957 =>Company converted into a public limited company
renamed “Philips India Ltd”
 In 1959 => A second radio factory was established near Pune.
(It was shut down in 2006)

10.  In 1982 =>Philips brought colour television
transmission to India with the supply of four outdoor
broadcast vans to DD National during the IX Asian
Games.
 In 1996 =>The Philips Software Centre was established
in Bangalore. It is now called the Philips Innovation
Campus.
 In 2008, Philips India entered a new product category,
water purifiers designed and made in India, and
exported to other countries.
 The Philips Board of Management announced Mr.
Rajeev Chopra as the Managing Director of Philips
Electronics India Limited, effective January 1, 2011.
