 In 1895 Gerard’s younger brother Anton Philips entered
the family business at the age of 16.

PHILIPS IN INDIA
 It started in India at Kolkata in 1930 named as Philips
Electrical company (I) Pvt. Ltd.
 It comprised staff of 75 and was sales outlet for Philips lamp
imported from overseas.
 In 1938=>Philips India set up its first Indian lamp
manufacturing factory in Kolkata.
 In 1948 => First radio factory started in Kolkata.
 In 1957 =>Company converted into a public limited company
renamed “Philips India Ltd”
 In 1959 => A second radio factory was established near Pune.
(It was shut down in 2006)

 In 1982 =>Philips brought colour television
transmission to India with the supply of four outdoor
broadcast vans to DD National during the IX Asian
Games.
 In 1996 =>The Philips Software Centre was established
in Bangalore. It is now called the Philips Innovation
Campus.
 In 2008, Philips India entered a new product category,
water purifiers designed and made in India, and
exported to other countries.
 The Philips Board of Management announced Mr.
Rajeev Chopra as the Managing Director of Philips
Electronics India Limited, effective January 1, 2011.
