 In 1997 the Philippine FidoNet
Exchange was formed. It is a local
network for communication.
○ Direct internet connection helped with the
arival of the email gateways and services in
the Philippines. International emails was then
introduced to FidoNet users.

know as PHNET) was developed by
DOST and some representatives from
different Universities.
○ Students were able to send emails through
Philnet’s gateway
○ They contributed in connecting Philippines to

 World Wide Web in the Philippines was
first introduced in 1994
○ Benjie Tan established the first connection
through a PLDT network
○ It was then useful for Filipino overseas
○ Forwarded emails and basic HTML

 Friendster was one of the early popular
