Opioid Addiction: New Approach Gives Hope to Patients Awaiting TreatmentSov Addiction Rehab
Amid the growing opioid crisis in the United States, the capacity of available treatment programs is falling short of demand. As a result, people needing treatment for dependency on heroin or prescription painkillers have to wait for months, sometimes even years, to get appointments with certified doctors or to find slots in rehabilitation programs.

Household Demographic Predictors of Drug and Substance Abuse among High Schoo...Premier Publishers
Purpose: The accessibility, affordability, and consumption of abused drugs by the youths have attracted great concern among public health personnel. This descriptive cross-sectional study investigated household demographic predictors of drugs and substance abuse among high school students in Kisumu East Sub-County, Kisumu County.
Methods: Sample size of 434 was calculated using Yamane formula and the participants selected through Snow ball, random, cluster and stratified sampling. Descriptive data was summarized using tables while inferential statistic done using Chi square and logistic regression. Data collection done through observation and semi- structured questionnaires. P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Overall, 219 (61.17%) students reported to have engaged in drug and illicit substance abuse with higher proportion reported among the Christians as compared to Islamic and Hinduism. Religion, Parental / guardian’s level of education and the person living with the student were found to significantly predict the abuse of drug and illicit substance among high school students (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Drug and illicit substance abuse remains a major public health problem among all age groups worldwide with several negative impacts. Due to its magnitude, it calls for concerted multi-sectorial effort by all stakeholders for the dream of drug free world to be achieved.

Evaluation of NDLEA Radio Campaign Influence on Drug Abuse among Youths in On...inventionjournals
Drug abuse has a devastating consequence for individuals, families and society. It has wrecked the fortunes of many youths who roam the streets as mental cases, abandoned to their fate by society. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has established radio public affairs programmes to address drug abuse related issues in Anambra State. It becomes necessary to ascertain if the radio campaign has led to the reduction of drug abuse among youths in Onitsha. The survey research method was used to obtain and analyze data from youths residing in Onitsha metropolis, as potential and real uses of banned drugs. The purposive sampling method was used to deal with issues related to sample size and its allocation to study units within the area of study. It is the consequence of an interface between processed information and its implication for the youth receiver that is the focus of this study.

On January 1, 2014, Colorado became the first state in the nation to sell legal rec-
reational marijuana for adult use. As a result, Colorado has had to carefully examine
potential population health and safety impacts as well as the role of public health in
response to legalization. We have discussed an emerging public health framework for
legalized recreational marijuana. We have outlined this framework according to the core
public health functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance. In addition,
we have discussed challenges to implementing this framework that other states con-
sidering legalization may face. (Am J Public Health. 2016;106:21–27. doi:10.2105/

Formulating the Problem Statement and the Purpose Statement
Over the past decade, there have been several changes in drug addiction treatment that has shown results that show reduced associated health and social costs by more than the cost of the treatments. It has been found that treatments cost much less that the alternatives, such as incarcerating people with addictions. There are many savings related to healthcare, which includes, total savings that can exceed costs with a ratio of 12 to 1. Major savings to the individual and to society also stems from fewer interpersonal conflicts; greater workplace productivity; and fewer drug-related accidents, including overdoses and deaths (Woody, M.D., 2018).
Problem Statement
A common misperception is detoxification cures the addiction, yet addiction is a chronic disorder requiring long term multimodal treatment (Korsmeyer et al., 2009. Long-term treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders might reduce recidivism rates and lessen costs for rehabilitation. Goldstein, A. (1997). examined the benefits of long-term substance abuse and posited the benefits. Goldstein further suggested not treating addiction appropriately or at all contributes to the high costs associated with substance use in the United States.
Insurance companies are reluctant to support long term substance abuse treatment; however, Weisner, Ray, Mertens, Satre and Moore (2003) noted patients receiving a minimum of six months substance treatment abstained from drug and alcohol use at least five years after treatment yet abusers of alcohol were less likely to remain sober for lengthy periods of time after treatment (Weisner et al., 2003).
According to the National Drug Institute (2012), every dollar invested in substance abuse treatment yields a return of $5.50 in reduced drug-related crime, costs associated with criminal justice, and theft. Healthcare savings can exceed costs by a 12 to 1 ratio. Therefore, drug addiction treatment reduces costs associated with primary care and is less costly than incarceration. Addressing addiction also contributes to the more positive aspects of life, such as increase in work productivity, and fewer incidents related to drug use, fewer overdoses and deaths.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this correlational study is to see if a relationship exists among periods of sobriety and four levels of substance abuse treatment. The research will examine substance abuse treatment throughout various levels of care: higher levels (detox, Inpatient (IP), and Residential (RTC) and lower levels (partial hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and routine Outpatient (OP). Current trends in substance abuse treatment provides evidence that length of treatment is inadequate contributing to more frequent relapses among substance abusers. Longer treatment options for addiction may reduce the number of relapses, reduce costs asso.

Summary of the policy
The opioid crisis has been a significant public health concern in the United States since the late 1990s. The inability to develop strategic legislation and regulation to control the use of opioid has been critical to the development of the opioid crisis. The opioid crisis involves the use of both prescription and non-prescription opioid drugs. According to the Center for Disease control and prevention, the rate of opioid addiction has been significantly increasing over the years. From 1999 to 2016, at least 350,000 individuals have died from related opioid addiction, which includes prescription and illicit opioids.
Unlicensed pharmacies and overdependence on these drugs in pain management have been major concepts, which have created a challenging setting where the abuse of prescription drugs can be controlled. The underlying basis of this problem is the current assumption in the United States that medical practitioners can cure almost everything. Even though it is essential to understand that prescription drugs are effective in pain management, the drugs are required to be offered based on the prescriptions issued (McDonald & Lambert, 2016). It is also noted that they should not be used regularly since they created a very detrimental habit to patient wellbeing because they have addictive properties, which make it dangerous when consumed in large portions.
Confronting opioid addiction requires significant efforts by all stakeholders in healthcare in ensuring that there is a common objective in providing that there is a crucial focus in integrating quality focus in preventing opioid addiction. Considering the fact that a prescribed drug mainly propagates opioid addiction. It is essential to ensure that they are issued through consideration of critical healthcare knowledge regarding the admissibility of opioid drugs (Bihel, 2016). Nurses have a significant role to play regarding the overall development of the opioid addiction crisis. Critical issues that have been identified in opioid drug abuse include improper use, lack of the required knowledge and related interpretation in the use of opioid prescribed drugs and decreased regulation and legislation from the government regarding the existing concern on the increasing addiction levels across the country.
Players
The increase in opioid crisis has had a direct and indirect influence on different stakeholders. Therefore developing a strong focus on essential strategies that can help limit the overall impact of the opioid crisis on the lives of an individual is critical. The national institute on drug abuse reported that in 2015, 33,091 deaths were reported be.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Introduction
Drug abuse is defined as the excessive use of drugs like pain medications, alcohol and other
illegal drugs. Drug abuse is known to cause emotional, physical and social harm to people
involved. Besides, drug abuse takes place when individuals take medicines for wrong purposes
and it is caused by sexual and physical abuse, peer pressure, early exposure to stress, and drugs.
Policies and Prevention Programs for Drug use and Abuse
The rate of drug use and abuse is high in Saudi Arabia, where about 7 to 8% are reported to use
drug substances. Study shows that people who use drugs between 12–22 years old are 70% and
the most common drugs abused include heroin, Cannabis, and alcohol. One of the prevention
programs used to combat drug use and abuse in Saudi is an awareness campaign that focuses on
the youth. The Dubai police, Right Start International Foundation, with the help of some leaders,
organized HEMAYA Campaign to help educate youths on the dangers and risks associated with
drugs abuse and how to avoid it (Fawzi & Mansouri, 2017). The 2007 world drug report indicates
that the trend of illicit drug distribution and production is worrying in the Middle East, contributing
to the increased rate of drug abuse. In essence, to reduce this trend, the initiated campaign covered
most of the Maghreb countries, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and Palestinian.
The HEMAYA campaign's massive dissemination of information was accompanied by events
organized to occur in youth clubs, schools, Universities, Local Companies, and public places.
Individuals and organizations organized several events such as training sessions, concerts, and
school conferences to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the dangers of
drug abuse. The campaign was supported by satellite TV stations which aired several programs
topics related to drug abuse (Fawzi & Mansouri, 2017). In Saudi Arabia, drug abuse is discouraged
by conservative cultural and religious norms. The government has focused on ways to combat the
abuse and trafficking of narcotics by imposing the death penalty for smugglers of drugs in the
country. This has made drug trafficking, and abuse does not pose significant law enforcement and
social problems to society.
3. Describe the Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) approval process for assessing a newly
developed drug's?
The SFDA is responsible for conducting a 3A review, a full assessment of the drug approval
process. The agency uses this form to assess the quality data, pre-clinical or safety, clinical or
efficacy in detail, and evaluate the pre-registration information before the drug can be authorized
(Hashan et al., 2016). The SFDA also requires information related to drugs pricing as part of the
review process to ensure the safety and quality of drug products. The SFDA has also enhanced
the quality and safety of medicines by having stipulated target times for scientific assessment,
validation, authorization, and approval of any manufactured drugs. The primary scientific review
takes place internally with the help of external experts used on an ad-hoc basis for clinical matters
and recommendation advice. At the same time, the quality, safety, and efficacy data review are
conducted in parallel.
Conclusion
In summary, the policies and programs for drug use and abuse prevention are very critical since
they always purpose to reduce the abuse of several drugs as well as to enhance good health. Some
of the policies and programs used in Saudi Arabia to combat drug abuse included death penalty
for drug smugglers and HEMAYA campaign which created awareness.
