Aurangabad district is located mostly in Godavari Basin, fall under Maharashtra agro climatic zone-VII (Central Maharashtra Plateau Zone). It is ‘Assured Rainfall Zone’ with average rainfall of 450-650 mm.
Water scarcity is a growing problem in many parts of India due to factors like increasing population, inadequate rainfall, climate change, and uncontrolled water use. Several regions in the document are experiencing drought-like conditions and water shortages, including Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Periya Semur municipality, parts of Tirunelveli district, and Thondi and S.P. Maharashtra has always faced droughts. The drought has persisted for four consecutive years and has affected drinking water security and crop production and productivity severely all over the Maharashtra state. Maharashtra government has launched a new program named Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan to make Maharashtra a drought-free state by 2019. The JYS proposes a framework for village level water balance calculation which includes estimation of crop-water requirements, drinking water stress etc. JYS promotes an integration and coordination between various government agencies and program during planning and implementation levels and stresses on people's participation as one of the key objectives. The program aims to make 5000 villages free of water scarcity every year. This transformation has been possible with concentrated efforts towards developing watersheds, improving ground water levels, de-silting and decentralizing water sources and increasing the area under irrigation.
The document discusses urban flooding causes and management. It notes that heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh in September-October 2009 caused widespread flooding that displaced over 1.3 million people and killed 199. Flooding is caused by both natural factors like heavy rainfall and silted drainage systems, as well as human factors such as urbanization, deforestation, and lack of proper drainage infrastructure. Flood management requires reducing exposure to floods through land use planning, improving drainage systems, and implementing preparedness, response and recovery measures at the national, state, district and local levels in accordance with the Disaster Management Act of 2005.

1. The document analyzes flood hazards in Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal, India. It finds the main causes of flooding are insufficient river depths, heavy rainfall, water logging in low-lying areas, and weak embankments.
2. When flooding occurs, it leads to issues like river bank erosion, inundation of crops, forests, and homes, loss of lives and livestock. During major floods in the 1990s and 2000s, thousands of hectares were flooded and hundreds of thousands of people and livestock were affected.
3. To reduce flood hazards, the document recommends increasing river depths through dredging, strengthening flood protection infrastructure like embankments and sluice gates,

Globally water resources are becoming increasingly vulnerable as a result escalating demand arising from the population growth, the need foe increased food production, expanding industrialisation due to rising living standards, pilution due to various anthropogenic activities, and climate change impacts Due to the water scarcity and poor water quality, it has been predicted that by 2050, at least one in four people are likely to live in a country with a shortage of freshwater. Water quality is a complex subject which involves physical, chemical, hydrological and biologicl characteristics of water and their complex and delicate realations.
The Ganga is one of India's most polluted rivers due to increasing domestic and industrial waste. It receives over 2,700 million liters of untreated sewage per day from cities and towns located along its banks. Industrial effluents from over 700 factories along the river further deteriorate its water quality. While government initiatives like the Ganga Action Plan and Namami Ganga have aimed to clean the river, their effectiveness has been limited due to gaps in sewage treatment capacity and lack of enforcement. Continued population growth and industrialization are also increasing the pollution load on the Ganga.

Hardoi held a meeting with local Army officials to alert them of an impending flood-like situation in
the district.
As per reports from Flood Control unit of the irrigation and water resource department Sharda river
was flowing 1.3 meter above the danger mark in LakhimpurKheri while Ghaghra crossed the danger
mark in Barabanki. At least nine villages were submerged in flood waters in Barabanki district
including Parsaul, Naipura, Manjha Raipur and Kanchanpur. District authorities feared a sharp
increase in water level by Wednesday.
“Around 3 lakh cusec of water has been released from Sharda Barage in Lakhimpur which is
expected to reach Barabanki from Wednesday,“ said sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Ram Nagar
(Barabanki) Ashutosh Dubey. He said preparations were underway to evacuate residents of the
villages on the banks of Ghaghra in the district.
The worst affected districts include Lakhimpur-Kheri, Bahraich, Sitapur and Deoria. In these places,
flood waters have washed away several houses, damaged roads and inundated large farmlands
The eastern district's proneness to floods is attributed, among other things, to heavy rainfall, low
and flat topography, high subsoil water level and the silting of beds which causes river levels to rise.
The major flood-prone rivers are the Ghaghra and Saryu, Rapti and Sharda.
According to DHM, Nepal the flood water level trend in upstream side (Chisapani and Chepang) for
