Inspiration In Pfaff’s artwork she tries to portray movement and color from organic forms, letting the viewer make their own meaning. The movement she creates is based on photographs she had taken to study the reaction of oil and water. She looks to the 1960s for inspiration and the reactions of oil and water. However the 1960s isn’t her only inspiration, She drew from her own teachings, and the events of the times. She gets inspiration in the work of other artists and also for new ideas. Supermercado. 1986. Steel works, wood, formica. 8’ 4’’ x 13’ 8’’ New York Pfaff uses many different ideas that’s she gets from other artist she works with. She is very influenced by the 1960s with their studies on the reaction of oil and water and the movement she found in the reaction is her inspiration for her art work.
De Los Flores by Judy Pfaff, 2010, dyed and folded Japanese papers, print matter, artificial flowers, gourds, coffee filters, 91 x 91 x 6 inches This installation by Judy Pfaff uses many different materials including Japanese folding paper, fake flowers, and coffee filters. When the many objects are set in a certain position it creates the vision that Pfaff wanted to create. Pfaff uses solid colors, and also many different shades of orange and grey tp create movement and feel to the installation. The use of the monotone color creates the illusion that the blues and reds in the project are much brighter then actually used.
Rosie's Bed  , 2009, cut, burnt, and perforated bond Crown Kozo paper, sheet music, silk and paper flowers, wire, fishing line, coffee filters, ink, kite parts, 91 x 91 x 6 inches The use of lines in the installation creates dimension and keeps the viewers eyes moving around the art work. The texture of the installation feels the same as the materials it was made of, the artwork feels like a mixture of both smooth surfaces and also rough and soft. The artwork has movement, the red fishing line starts at the very top of the work and travels all the way to the bottom, this creates movement from the bottom of the work to the right top corner. The movement takes the eyes through the whole installation and creates a greater understanding
Materello, 1992. mixed media, 95 x 125 x 75 in . New York. Carl Solway Gallery. In this sculpture, Pfaff tries to create a scenario where the sculpture defies gravity with help from strings but that’s besides the point. The colors used in this sculpture creates an openness in the sculpture which then makes the odd shape of the sculpture even more odd.
Koyna , 2008, Layered/cut paper, Joss paper, found images, ink, wire, artificial flowers, wire, Crown Kozo paper, umbrella parts, framed: 94 1/2 x 94 1/2 I really do like this piece of art. It is visually pleasing and creates movement throughout the whole work. The colors used in the picture create a feeling that anything can happen. This painting has many forms of lines which create the outer border of the painting.
