Over 100,000 people are currently on the waiting list for organ transplants in the United States, with someone added every 11 minutes. One person's organ donation can save up to 30 lives through transplants. To become an organ donor, individuals can register with their state, indicate their wishes on their driver's license, and carry an organ donor card. Organ donation offers recipients a second chance at life through transplants of kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, pancreas, and intestines from both living and deceased donors.
