Aaron Marcus is passionate about working in the entertainment industry and wants to study events management. He has experience running sound and participating in various productions since age 10. He has held roles in lighting, sound, stage management and more. Marcus enjoys both working on teams and taking on leadership positions. He has a technical background from his studies and hobbies in film, computer science, and building drones. Marcus believes this course will improve his employment chances and allow him to further develop skills for a career in events.

1. Aaron Marcus
I have a great passion for working on events and wish to get a job in the entertainments
industry. I would like to study this course because it will greatly improve my chances of
employment as well as feeding my interest of discovering how things work. I believe this course
will allow me to do that through the skills, qualifications and experience that I will gain.
It was at the age of 10 that I first developed a passion for events when I ran the sound for my
primary school production. Since then I have taken every opportunity to participate in
productions and events. These have included college and community theatre, live music events,
outdoor events and festivals, including KingsStock, Strawberry Fair, professional shows at the
Cambridge Arts Theatre and corporate events including a charity gig for Centre 33, a young
person's charity set up in Cambridge. Highlights include being assistant stage manager for ​The
Odyssey: An Epic Musical Epic!, a ​5* production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014 and
youth technical team leader for the Essex International Jamboree which had 5 outdoor venues
and 10,000 scouts.
During the above, I have undertaken roles in all areas including lighting, sound, stage
management, general crew, runner, rigging, set building, power distribution, technical director
and front of house manager. Whilst I enjoy working as part of a team under the instruction of
others, I am a confident and capable leader; I have been entrusted with hands on managerial
roles in events, often being responsible for the safety of at least 10 other crew members. This
has included Technical Director roles for local theatre groups in the past and an offer of
Technical Director for a production at the Ed Fringe in 2017.
My personal interest in technology inspired me to take the following subjects at Long Road Sixth
Form College:
A Film and TV diploma course, which involves pre-production risk assessments and production
schedules, through to post-production tasks of editing video and audio. I have been able to use
these transferable skills to suggest and create video content which has enhanced the
production.
A level Computer Science which has given me a good understanding of most technical
software, such as Qlab, and hardware. Furthermore, I have a knowledge of basic electronics,
from my GCSE Electronic Products course. I believe the above have helped to gain a better
understanding of how most sound and lighting devices work and also fix them when they go
wrong.
I am mature, independent and motivated as evidenced by my working a range of jobs from a
relatively young age. These include car parking, selling christmas trees, farm work, kitchen
porter, punt chauffeur, cashier and duty manager. I believe I have developed great
communication skills through being a punt chauffeur where I need the ability to talk to members
of the public confidently and fluently, in a friendly manner.

2. Aaron Marcus
Away from my studies and work, I enjoy a range of hobbies. An example of a technical project I
have undertaken is building my own hexacopter for aerial photography. I am an Explorer Scout
and Scout leader which enables me to participate in the outdoor pursuits I particularly enjoy;
climbing, hiking and kayaking.
Overall, I am looking forward to the challenge of learning many new skills and further develop
skills/interests I already have. Both of which will provide me with the best chance of gaining me
a job in the industry after completing the course. The course will give me the skills and
knowledge needed to continue working in the industry should there come a time when I can no
longer hear properly or lift a flightcase.
