1. Personal Statement
I consider myself to be enthusiastic, disciplined and self-motivated individual with strong aptitude for organisation.
I am hardworking, diligent and a good timekeeper. I have worked within the public sector for practically all my
working life; I enjoy working both with the general public and teams of people within the work place. I have used
computers in my working life for over seventeen years and have had experience of most Microsoft systems.
I am flexible and react positively to changing situations. I am willing to learn new skills and undergo further
training. I have many transferable skills from the thirty five years I have spent working for the NHS, I also have an
understanding and experience of using the policies and procedures to which the NHS adheres to.
For the past twelve years the catering management team and I have adhered to and achieved strict budgets, we
have managed to successfully meet many cost improvement programmes which have impacted on pay, non-pay
and income budgets. This also involved having overall responsibility for many staff at various levels and across a
number of sites.
Within the past couple of years I have been the lead when implementing an EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale)
system across five retail outlets. I have also been heavily involved in planning and opening two in-house coffee
shops at the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. One opened in 2012 and one opened in 2013. Both these areas are
significantly over achieving on income.
Due to changes in food hygiene legislation I have successfully implemented a HACCP system at all the sites and
have ensured that the catering personnel are trained to the correct level so as they using the HACCP system as
part of their daily routine. I also facilitated regular documented meeting with both catering management and key
non catering personnel to ensure the system we have in place reflects our practised and procedures. I was also
responsible for auditing the HACCP system as it is crucial that the HACCP system is an evolving system that
changes as the service delivery changes. All the catering premised had a five star rating when I left the trust.
I had monthly team meetings with the catering staff, but also chaired both documented individual meetings and
documented group meetings with the catering managers and catering supervisors which I managed. I also met
regularly with key stakeholders and potential future key stakeholders of my services. Part of my remit was to
annually complete an appraisal of my managers and supervisors and resolve any issues that were raised. As
part of the appraisal process we also agreed each individual’s objectives for the following year.
Ensuring key health and safety documentation and practises were completed and adhered to in a timely manner
and ensuring that all legal and contractual obligations were fulfilled within my areas of responsibility. I also have
experience of all aspects of people management together with the H.R. policies and procedures that are required
to manage large numbers of staff.
2. I have also been an active member of the Yorkshire branch of the “Hospital Caterers Association” for over 20
years during which time I have been part of the conference committee arranging three national conferences and
have recently held the position of Yorkshire Branch secretary for over five years.
