Ever since being young, the author has been fascinated by sounds in movies, TV, games and live performances. They were especially interested in how speech and background noises were recorded and edited, paying more attention to sound than visuals. In secondary school, the author began exploring sound by making short tracks and sound effects with materials. During a creative media college course, the author found working on sound elements like music and effects for video projects most interesting. Studying a sound degree will allow the author to expand their knowledge in creating music and sounds for different media, and learn more about filmmaking.

1. Ever since I was young, I found myself captivated by the sounds in movies, TV shows, games and live
settings. I was interested in how they recorded and edited the speech and background noises. I
found myself paying more attention to how things sounded apposed to how they looked. Especially
in animated and horror films I like to try and figure out how the sound has been recorded and added
to the content. I am also, interested in the music that goes with movies, how they work around
copyright issues and the work that goes into getting permissions to use an artists song in their
production along with the process of asking an artist to make a song for a movie or TV show.
Whilst in Secondary school I started to explore sound more by making my own short tracks and
playing around with different instruments such as keyboard and even attempting to make my own
sound effects with materials such as cardboard. During this time, I also became more interested in
theatre productions and was immediately drawn to the sound effects used during those live
productions and the process of making them happen. Over the course of being in college my interest
continued and I found the most interesting and enjoyable parts of my Creative Media course to be
working on sound elements such as the music and sound effects in video projects along with a
couple of podcasting projects.
Studying a degree in sound will give me the opportunity to expand my current knowledge whilst also
gaining a lot of new knowledge. I’m eager to learn more about creating music and sounds for
different media contents and to learn more about the art of film in general. This is something I will
continue to be passionate about and will try my best to keep learning more.
