1. PERFORMANCE LOG
WEEK MY LOGWEEK 1 : What is MimeI did independent research on “what is mime” and found out where mime originated from and how economical, social, technological and historical factors have an effect on performance today. WEEK 2: Watching Mime PerformancesI watched a mime performance and saw how mime artist communicate with their audience with out talking, I saw that they exaggerate their movements an make it nice and clear also use face expression and body language to tell the story and also I learnt that if there’s music in the background then the action being in time with the music is very important because that’s what creates humour, tension etc. WEEK 3: The Elements of MimeI researched on what the elements of mime are and I found out that It is essential that people communicate well with their body by exaggerating movements and good facial expression and clear body language when doing mime because they cannot speak o make people understand what is going on. You also have to be able to isolate your body to show different object for example when you mime pulling a rope you start with your ribcage caved back and you move your ribcage forward as you pull to create the illusion of applied force. WEEK 4: Who is Our Audience? What do they want?We as a group wanted our primary audience to be school kids the secondary audience to be anyone who likes to watch mime performance. I then went home and did a survey to see what our audience think of our idea and what they want in the performance e.g. dance. WEEK 5: Ideas for Paired PerformanceAs pairs we thought of what object we are going to focus on, I suggested we do a performance on how some people can be ungrateful with out knowing. Then again as performance we decided we are going to do little girl tries to pick an ape from a tree but couldn’t reach the apple, a tall girl helps to get the apple, she tastes it but doesn’t like it chucks it on the floor but doesn’t understand that her friend went through trouble getting her that apple. WEEK 6: Ideas for Group performanceOur Group came up with a dentist scene at first but that didn’t go well so I moved to a different group and told them how they could change their performance to make it better by including me in to their performance. They listen to my idea and the scene became very successful and enjoyable to watch. WEEK 6: Storyboarding I made a story board for my group (dentist scene) but as we didn’t do that scene made another one for my paired scene. It was a basic story board with 10 boxes with clear pictures and a few words explaining what is happening in each box. WEEK 7: Organising Rehearsals and Props and EquipmentI got my all my equipment a day before the performance and let it in school, I also made my props during my art lesson for example I made a poster for the fan scene that I will be holding during the football match. WEEK 7: ChoreographyRenee and Abigail was in charge of choreographing but I gave ideas on how they can make it better for example during the bus dance I said that we should repeat the same moves every time we get on the bus I also made my dance up that I will have to do at the end dance but because my character is dopey I had to think of embarrassing dance steps and moves that o can do. WEEK 8: RehearsalI helped the assistant director find a rehearsals place and made sure everyone knows when and where it was and I attended all rehearsals. WEEK 9 : Rehearsal & Production MeetingDuring Rehearsals I gave ideas on how we can improve the performance and I gave feedback to other group on how they can improve their performance or how they can improve their acting. Also as a group we agreed that to promote put show we are going to make a leaflet saying “shhh....coming to you soon” to get the audience thinking and keep them in suspense. WEEK 10: Campaign/ Promotion PlanFor our second promotion discussion we decided to do a flash mob on the play ground to het the audience talking, We decided that we will pretend to have a fight and then when people gather around suddenly start dancing and I suggested that before the dance when everyone is arguing I say “shhh” to promote the name of our production. WEEK 11: Rehearsal – Visit from Professional Mime ArtistDuring one of our rehearsals a mime artist called Stuart Lewis came to teach us how to do mime, he taught us how to isolate our body and how to move your body with the object for example if the object is heavy our body will tilt toward the object to how that it is heavy. From this lesson I learnt how to isolate my body and how to show make my movements more clear, I also thought of many ways that I can improve my acting by sing the tips he gave. WEEK 12: Dress and Technical RehearsalsI bought in my props and out fit that I need for the dance and also gave in the sound effects that I want in our scene and also told them where and when I want the light to be on me and what colour light and what type of light e.g. strobe light or the whole stage to light up. WEEK 13: PerformanceWe rehearsed one last time before the actual performance, I made sure I had all my props and equipment and left it in a place that could be easily accessible and don’t have to panic and look for it during the performance.
