1. Word of Wisdom,
Word of
Knowledge and
Faith
1 Corinthians 12
People of the Spirit

2. Big Idea
Now concerning spiritual gifts,
brethren, I do not want you to
be ignorant:
1 Corinthians 12:1 (NKJV) 2
3. 1 Corinthians 12:8–10 (NKJV)
for to one is given the word of wisdom
through the Spirit, to another the word
of knowledge through the same Spirit, to
another faith by the same Spirit, to
another gifts of healings by the same
Spirit, to another the working of miracles,
3
4. 1 Corinthians 12:8–10 (NKJV)
to another prophecy, to another
discerning of spirits, to another different
kinds of tongues, to another the
interpretation of tongues.
4
5. We don’t understand everything!
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NKJV) For
now we see in a mirror, dimly,
but then face to face. Now I
know in part, but then I shall
know just as I also am known.
5
6. Word Wealth
Wisdom, sophia. Practical wisdom, prudence,
skill, comprehensive insight. Christian
enlightenment, a right appli-cation of knowledge,
insight into the true nature of things. Wisdom in
the Bible is often coupled with knowledge. In
anticipation of our needing guidance, direction,
and knowing, God tells us to ask for wisdom,
assuring us of a liberal reception
6
7. General Wisdom
James 1:5…But if any of you lacks
wisdom, let him ask of God, who
gives to all generously and
without reproach, and it will be
given to him.
7
8. Store up wisdom
Psalm 119:11…Your word I
have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.
8
9. Leadership Wisdom
James 3:13…Who among you is wise and
understanding? Let him show by his good
behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
9
10. Nature of leadership wisdom
James 1:17…Every good thing given and every
perfect gift is from above, coming down from the
Father of lights, with whom there is no variation
or shifting shadow.
10
11. Word of wisdom
a spiritual manifestation available to any believer
as a special and specific need might arise. It is
supernatural direction which the Holy Spirit
Himself shares with an individual for a certain
situation, especially where the outcome of
decisions would not be known outside this
revelation. Its basis is always biblically revealed
wisdom.
11
12. Corinthian need for wisdom
1 Corinthians 1:10…Now I exhort you, brethren,
by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all
agree and that there be no divisions among you,
but that you be made complete in the same mind
and in the same judgment.
12
13. Corinthian need for wisdom
1 Corinthians 1:18–19…For the word of the cross
is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to
us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, “I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM
OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE
CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE.”
13
14. Corinthian need for wisdom
1 Corinthians 1:21…For since in the wisdom of
God the world through its wisdom did not come
to know God, God was well-pleased through the
foolishness of the message preached to save
those who believe.
14
15. Corinthian need for wisdom
1 Corinthians 1:30…But by His doing you are in
Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from
God, and righteousness and sanctification, and
redemption,
15
16. Need for wisdom
Ephesians 5:15–16…Therefore be
careful how you walk, not as unwise
men but as wise, making the most of
your time, because the days are evil.
16
17. Jesus and word of wisdom
Render to Caesar
Seek first the Kingdom of God
Everyone who exalts himself
17
18. Jack Hayford
The ‘word of wisdom’ is a spiritual utterance at a
given moment ‘through the Spirit,’ supernaturally
disclosing the mind, purpose, and way of God as
applied to a specific situation.
18
19. Word of wisdom
1 Corinthians 2:1…And when I came to you,
brethren, I did not come with superiority of
speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the
testimony of God.
19
20. Word of wisdom
1 Corinthians 2:13…which things we also speak,
not in words taught by human wisdom, but in
those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual
thoughts with spiritual words.
20
21. Word Wealth
Knowledge, gnosis. The recognition of truth
by personal experience; a derivative of
ginosko which means to perceive,
understand, recognize, gain knowledge,
realize, come to know. Gnosis is the
knowledge that has an inception, a progress,

and an attainment. The precise difference
between wisdom and knowledge is not
always crystal clear in the Bible. In a general
sense, wisdom is the way facts are used or
the decisions one makes with information,
while knowledge would be the more
concrete and specific facts themselves.
22
24. Revelatory
1 Corinthians 14:6…But now, brethren, if I come
to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you
unless I speak to you either by way of revelation
or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching?
24
26. Dream interpretation
Daniel 2:28…However, there is a God in heaven
who reveals mysteries, and He has made known
to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in
the latter days. This was your dream and the
visions in your mind while on your bed.
26
27. Jesus and word of knowledge
John 4:18…for you have had five husbands, and
the one whom you now have is not your husband;
this you have said truly.”
27
28. Jesus and word of knowledge
John 6:64…“But there are some of you who do
not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were who did not believe, and who it
was that would betray Him.
28
29. Limit of knowledge
1 Corinthians 8:1…Now concerning things
sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have
knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love
edifies.
29
30. Word Wisdom
Faith, pistis. Conviction, confidence, trust,
belief, reliance, trustworthiness, and
persuasion. In the New Testament setting,
pistis is the divinely implanted principle of
inward confidence, assurance, trust, and
reliance in God and all that He says.It can
30
31. Word Wisdom
refer to the body of truth that we believe, to
the basic trust we have in God for salvation
or to the dynamic power which realizes the
energy contained in the promises of God. As
a dynamic power, faith is an agency for
action; it is this aspect which best describes
31
32. Word Wisdom
the 1 Corinthians manifestation. Pistis is also
a fruit of the Spirit [Gal. 5:22].
32
33. Faith profession
Jeremiah 32:17…Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have
made the heavens and the earth by Your great
power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is
too difficult for You,
33
34. Demon possessed boy
Mark 9:22–24…It has often thrown him both into
the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if
You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are
possible to him who believes.” Immediately the
boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help
my unbelief.”
34
35. Disbelief
Mark 9:19…And He answered them and said, “O
unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with
you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him
to Me!”
35
36. Faith in Jesus
Acts 3:4–6…But Peter, along with John, fixed his
gaze on him and said, “Look at us!” And he began
to give them his attention, expecting to receive
something from them. But Peter said, “I do not
possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give
to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the
Nazarene—walk!”
36
37. Drew a crowd
Acts 3:7–9…And seizing him by the right hand, he
raised him up; and immediately his feet and his
ankles were strengthened. With a leap he stood
upright and began to walk; and he entered the
temple with them, walking and leaping and
praising God. And all the people saw him walking
and praising God;
37
38. Faith
Acts 3:16…And on the basis of faith in His name, it
is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this
man whom you see and know; and the faith
which comes through Him has given him this
perfect health in the presence of you all.
38
39. Faith in action
Hebrews 11:32–34And what more shall I say? For
time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson,
Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets,
who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of
righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of
lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge
of the sword, from weakness were made strong,
became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
39
40. The cursed fig tree
Mark 11:22–25...[Jesus said] “Have faith in God.
truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not
doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says
is going to happen, it will be granted him.
“Therefore I say to you, all things for which you
pray and ask, believe that

you have received them, and they will be granted
you. Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you
have anything against anyone, so that your Father
who is in heaven will also forgive you your
transgressions.

release the energy of God for any given
action or need; it is to be differentiated from

manifestation, along with gifts of healings
and the working of miracles, as “the gifts of
energy” or “the gifts of ministry.”
