INTRODUCTION
 Pediculosis is a condition in which lice and infest the
scalp. head lice most often affect children who are in
direct contact with one another personal items

 Pediculosis treatment is the treatment of
pediculosis capitis( head lice)
purpose
 To destroy pediculi and nits
 To prevent tansmission to others
 To promote comfort
 To promote sense of well being
Dangers of pediculosis
 Severe itching
 Scarching and as a result, absecess formation
 Presence of dandruff
 Insomnia due to discomfort
 Presence of nodules at the back of head due to
infected glands
Types of pediculi
 Pediculus capitis:
which infest the head
 Pediculus corporis:
which infest the body and is found with its flits in
the clothing
 Pediculus pubis:
This infests the axillary and pubic hair the
eyebrows

 A tray containing
 Mackintosh-1
 Bath towel-2
 Wash cloth-1
 A cap a triangular bandage or a towel folded diagonally
 Safety pins
 Kidnet tray with disinfectant
 Paper bag
 Hair comb
 Cotton swabs or gauze piece in a container
 Bowl-2 ( 1 for anti lice medication,1- for
disinfectant (Dettol) to collect the lice
Gown, mask,and cap
Bucket with disinfectant
Anti lice medication

Explain the procedure to the patient It reduces anxiety and increases co operation
Wash hands Reduces spread of micro organisms
Assemble equipment on right side of the bed Systemic ways of working saves time energy

Spread the mackintosh on the bed To prevent soiling of bed
Draw curtain around the bed Maintain privacy minimizes embarrasement and
promotes physical and mental comfort
Position the patient (siting or lying) For the convenience of work
Wear apron and gloves To protect self from infestations
Spread the towel over patients shoulders To prevent non toxic to the skin
Comb the hair with wide toothed comb It removes tangles without hair fall
Instruct the patient to close his eyes amd cover eyes with a
gauze piece
It prevents irritation to the eyes
Pour anti lice medication in the bowl Systematic ways of working saves time energy and material
Divide the hair in to small sections and apply anti lice
medication to the scalp and hair gently using a gauze piece
It helps in prevention of further infestations
During the application if lice are seen put it in the bowl with
disinfectant
It helps to prevent further infestations
Apply triangular bandage on the head and remove after 3 hours Lice may be transferred from source to the new host by direct or
indirect contact
Comb hair with a fine comb in small sections to remove all dead pediculi and nits
Clean comb after each stroke with cotton balls It removes tangles nits and lice
Discard used cotton balls and tangles into the k-basin To prevent spread of pediculi and nits
Clean and disinfectant comb after use in the k basin with
dettol
