1. TIMELINE ABOUT BADMINTON HISTORY
1600 - Battledore and Shuttlecock was a game specifically for upper
class and noble people. It originated in Europe and there was no net.
The rich just hit it back and forth.
1877 - TheBath Badminton Club formed where the officials made
an official rulebook that had rules and regulations.
1898 - Thefirst Open Tournament was held at Guildford, the
first All England Championships were held the following year.
1863 - The game of Badminton that we know today
was invented. Badminton got its name from
Badminton House in Gloucestershire, the ancestral
home of the Duke of Beaufort, where the sport was
played in the last century.
1936 - TheInternational Badminton Federation was formed with the initial
members including England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Holland,
Canada, New Zealand and France with India joining as an affiliate.
1899 - All England Open Badminton
Championships. It was the first global
tournament and it didn’t matter where you
were from.
2. 1939 (THOMAS CUP) - Sir George Thomas donated the Thomas Cup, a
trophy to be awarded at the International Badminton Championship for
the top men’s singles players.
1992 ( OLYMPIC SPORTS) - Badminton is
a relatively new Olympic Games sport.
Jan. 1, 1936 - The American Badminton
Association was formed in the United States.
1966 (COMMONWEALTH GAME SPORT) - Badminton was
introduced as a Commonwealth Games program sport in
Kingston Jamaica.
1996 - Mixed doubles added to
Olympics. 2004 (SECOND MOST POPULAR SPORTS WORLDWIDE)
- According to an article published by ESPN, Badminton is second to
soccer in participation worldwide.
