Examples Of Log Entries In The Da Vinci Code
30% Log Entry The Da Vinci Code ● Describe the plot. What has happened so far? Are there parts
you don t understand? Are there parts that you like? I have read roughly 200 pages in The Da Vinci
Code and so far, the book has been exciting to read. The first big event that took place in the book was
that Jacques Sauniére was chased down and killed. Sauniére worked as a curator at the Louvre in
Paris, France and he was a well known man. After his death, the French equivalent to the FBI, DCPJ
starts to investigate the case and they ask an American expert, named Robert Langdon for help. Dr.
Langdon is a suspect of the murder but the police officer does not tell him about the suspicion.
Instead, the officer tries to make him incriminate himself to build a ... Show more content on

Many complicated words are used and the reader needs to have a broad vocabulary to understand
every single word. Anyway, I feel like you do not have to understand every word to understand the
whole sentence or paragraph. In the book, there are a few metaphors and similes but many more
descriptions and facts about symbols. An example would be That is, that the Grail story uses the
chalice as a metaphor of something else, something far more powerful . In this quote, Dan Brown
writes about metaphors but he is not using them. Instead, he chooses to describe the history of a
symbolic item that really is a metaphor for the real Holy Grail. This shows that Dan Brown focuses on
the iconography and symbols, not similes and metaphors. Although, Dan Brown s character Professor
Langdon uses some metaphors to describe his view of the world. The narrator also uses a few similes
to describe certain items but there are not many metaphors and similes. In this book a few is more than
enough and I do not think that Dan Brown needs to use more similes and metaphors. If he would use
more similes and metaphors, the book would only be more complicated and harder to

The Island Of Dr Moreau God Complex Analysis
A true God Complex Upon finishing the reading of The Island Of Dr.Moreau, a clear perception of a
God Like complex is seen in the novel s antagonist the doctor himself. While many other sadistic
fictional characters have large ego s that put them in charge, Moreau differentiates from the rest
believing his work puts him in a god like position among his creations. Thinking like a higher power,
Moreau shows a strong concern over his secret experiments as he shifts around the island working. Dr.
Moreau s life work has gone into his experimentations making him fragile when it comes to tense
situations on the island. This is picked up by Prendick as he sneaks into Moreau s laboratory,
discovering the horror that lies upon a surgical table. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After some time on the island, Prendick is exposed to the propaganda that spreads through the beast s
culture. They reference Moreau as being The law whom they fear with humble bows. The beast people
display this loyal attitude as they chant in gruesome rhythm His is the Hand that wounds, his is the
Hand that heals (68). The island, their village, and the dreaded Dr.Moreau that brought them into this
world is all of what the beast people have come to apperceive, making them innocently gullible. One
such character described by Montgomery as complex trophy of Moreau s skill, a bear, tainted with dog
and ox, and one of the most elaborately made of all the creatures seems to further his loyalty towards
Moreau as the novel s plot thickens. M ling separates himself from the other beasts as he is allowed to
sleep in a kennel near the lodge as well as being in charge of cooking and maintaining efficiency,
putting himself in an even closer relationship with his master. As Moreau and Montgomery pursue a
rebellious and vicious beast, M ling puts his life before Moreau s as he attacks other beasts protecting
his masters. The relationship revealing a strong influence that Moreau holds over the beasts. While M
ling shows a disciple like relationship to Moreau, another character known as The Sayer Of the Law
seems to be in a biblical, Preacher type

Moose Maddon s Death Essay
I believe that Moose Maddons death was an accident. In the story it says Moose
Maddon was a bully to Cecil but Cecil didn t usually retaliate. Cecil is a boy who wants to go to
university, on the night of his leaving Moose Martin dies. I believe that Moose Madden s death was an
accident because he was drunk and tried to log roll but fell off and died.
The reason I believe that Moose maddons death was an accident is because he was drunk the night of
his death and went on a log and fell. In the text it says I figured it was Moose and Lefevre coming
home drunk from camp three. Moose was intoxicated the night of his death which makes him clumsy
and wobbly. It would be like driving drunk it s just as likely it even more likely he would fall of a log
in the river as he would get into an accident. Also in the story it says, One day in the fall I will go to
the ravine and see how the headline was making it. It still shocking to think that Maddon, who had
been sure footed as a chipmunk, and our best log rolling contest, had fallen to his death the way he
had. Moose Lilly thought he would be able to walk on the logs because he was one of the best at it.
But since he was drunk he would be wobbly and his balance would be off so he fell into the ravine. ...

There would be no point in killing Moses because he wouldn t see him again. Also moose was a good
worker and he didn t pick on other workers so he never had and major issues with them which doesn t

would be safe so there would be no reason to kill Moose to make sure nothing past little pranks

Plato s Meno Constructs
In Meno, Plato argues that because information cannot be learned, but is instead recollected, then
learning is impossible. Plato constructs this claim by arguing:
(1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants
to learn. (Premise)
(2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise)
(4) Therefore, learning is impossible (CD,2,3)
The argument is valid, because the conclusion (4) can be derived from (2) and (3) using the
constructive dilemma rule. Plato s first premise appears to be true. In the

Mother Courage And Eilif
Fate is a perplexing topic for even when an outcome is known there is no way of perceiving how it
will come about. In Ancient Greece, the plays were written about well known tales of heroes and the
playwright would warn the audience about fate. More modern plays incorporate the idea of fate in a
similar fashion to the Ancient Greeks with a contemporary flair. The morbid, ugly universe that is war
desecrates the greatest of human virtues (bravery, honesty, kindness, etc.) in Bertolt Brecht s Mother
Courage and Her Children. Eilif, Mother Courage s brave son, joins the army, much to his mother s
dismay, which is when she decides to tell her children s fortunes. She tells her children that their
virtues will be the end of them; nonetheless, they do not attempt to change their fortunes. Sure
enough, Eilif is persecuted for stealing a cow during a break in the war (this behavior that was
considered brave during the war). Swiss Cheese, the honest son, is shot for trying to return a stolen
cash box. Kattrin is shot while warning a town of an impending invasion. Mother Courage warned her
children to be wary of their virtues, but none of them could change their ways or their destinies. In this
way, Brecht emphasizes the disillusionment of war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Labor in Call Centers
CRITICAL ANALYSIS TAYLOR BAIN
Under scrutinized until the late 1990s, call centres have now got significant scholastic consideration.
The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past their starting bases in
the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early scepticism. The competitive
advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of phone and VDU advances, giving
immediate phone based client services and selling led to widespread of this phenomenon. the growing
financial sector has given the UK government s modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee
that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are open electronically.
This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related
issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the
current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories in
concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian
electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both
prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have
endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. Also, it makes reference to the
idea of emotional labour , as expounded at first by Hochschild (1983).

Bad News Communication
If my boss decided that I would be just the person to handle this project, I would approach the news
channels and newspaper differently. First of all, I wouldn t give out statements if I m not a hundred
percent sure because any false statement I can lose my career. Second of all, there should only be one
news reporter to reports news of information on television to receive accurate information and not
guessing on information being bought out from other reporter. I feel like reporters back in the days
feels they need to impress their employer to get promoted, so information is being overheard and is
not a hundred percent true but rumors. Third, if I m assigned to this job I would be at the scene and
see it for myself to confirm that the information I attain are true facts or ask the officers that are in
charge of the situation. I would double check the information to make sure they are correct or wait
until everybody is reveal to confirm true facts because false information will emotionally and
physically effects on the people have passed away. I personally think that these reporters wanted to get
a good promotion and got out the information too fast which turn out so bad that it turns out false
information lead by the reporters. I think these reporter shouldn t have reports the information when
there not one hundred percent sure that the information is true. Plus they were doubting the

Forecasting Effects on Supply Chain
Analysis of Forecasting on Supply Chain
Background:
A supply chain is a network that performs functions from supplier s supplier to customer s customer. It
encompasses all the process involved in delivering the final product to the final consumer. Supply
chain is filled with various uncertainties such as demand, process, and supply. Inventories are often
used to protect the chain from these uncertainties. The higher the variations the more the losses and
every company needs to minimize the variations and uncertainties in its supply chain.
There are various causes of uncertainties. Among them few that can be listed are demand variations
based on the type of product, the suppliers receipt variations which depend on the ... Show more

It also tells us the effect of forecasting on the planning.
We know about the bullwhip effect and the model shows clear signs of it. How the change in forecast
is affecting the demand given by the manufacturer to its supplier. It shows clear signs within the firm
itself where changes in demand by the customer is encouraging sales people to buffer up their supply
to meet the demand.
The model:
We are considering a mean demand of D, the variations sigma, lead time of 2 8 weeks depending on
the parts.
As we can see the demand has been varying a lot in 2009. This has induced a forecasting error by the
sales people in the manufacturing organization.
It has been assumed that sales people fill the MDS data 3 months in advance for the confirmed orders.
Hence it can be easily seen how the variation in the original forecast, the amount filled in the MDS
and actual shipment delivered to the customer changes.
Findings:
The bullwhip effect increases as the lead time increases. This is because the order level needed and
desired level needed are proportional to the lead time. This causes amplifying of inventory. There can
also be other delays like delaying order placing.
Here as we can see the decentralization has caused different forecast. This issue becomes more
complicated downstream as can be seen from the chart. There is a high increase in the variation of the
demand. The equilibrium depends not only on the quantities ordered

Etruscans Vs Roman Architecture
The Romans retained many ideas about buildings from their Etruscan predecessors, but they also
absorbed some of the ideas of the Greek that were passed onto them by the Etruscans (Bleiberg,
2005). When looking back in time, the basic style of architecture that the Greek, Roman and Etruscans
used was different but also similar in a few ways such as techniques, materials, structures, etc. For
instance, when Roman architectures began to build their first temple of their time, they based the
structure off the Etruscans temple. Due to the fact that their structures promoted an openness to them
unlike the Greek temples. When looking at these styles closer, the Greek architecture was known for
their use of columns and colonnade, but the Roman architecture was known for their use of arches and
vaults. Then on the other hand the Etruscans were known for their high podiums, unfluted columns
and deep porches, unlike the Greeks that were known to build shallow porches and projecting walls.
The columns that the Etruscans used were spaced more apart since the structured were assumed to
have weighed less than other temples, such as the Greeks marble temples. The way the Roman s used

Heteronormativity Summary
In society, heterosexuality is a principal method of organizing institutions and regulating individual
behavior. A culture based on ideas of heterosexuality values relationships that are between men and
women; as a result, sexual contact occurring between same sex individuals is seen as deviant and
labeled as homosexual. In her book, Ward explains how straight white men can have sex with other
white men while retaining their heterosexuality in addition to gaining a masculine appeal. Ingraham
and Namaste s discussion of heteronormativity, heterogenders, and supplementarity aids in
understanding why straight white men are not labeled as homosexual and how this functions to
reproduce inequalities based on race, gender, and sexuality. A culture that views heterosexuality as
natural and superior reproduces inequality by prioritizing the rights and voices of heterosexual
individuals. Ingraham views this as a product of heteronormativity, where ideas of heterosexuality are
deeply embedded in all aspects of society, thus becoming the norm and the standard to which all
individuals and sexualities are measured (2994:204). In a heteronormative society, gender and
sexuality are understood as biologically acquired men are naturally attracted to women and vice versa.
Heteronormativity is embedded in institutions such as religion, family, government and the workplace
(Bakehorn, 9/13/16). Because of an investment in heterosexuality, inequality is reproduced when

Shakespeare s Influence On Hamlet
It is clear that todays entertainment has lost its touch with the more classical influences on its
predecessors. However, every so often a movie comes out with the influence of shakespearen plays.
Some are very easy to compare, like Shakespeares play Romeo and Juliet and Disneys movie Gnomeo
and Juliet. Others take alittle more thought, like Shakespeares play Hamlet and Disneys movie The
Lion King. Of course these are just two similarities from many. There are no birth records of William
Shakespeare. Church records indicates that William Shakespeare was baptized at Holy Trinity Church
in Stratford upon Avon on April 26th, 1564. Because of this it has been believed he was born on or

The Order Fulfillment Procedure For Cup Of Joe
Project Overview
For our Gemba project, we decided to analyze the order fulfillment procedure for Cup of Joe, a coffee
shop located in the Lennox Town Center. In order to capture the establishment s peak hours of
business, we primarily visited during the hours of 9:00am 12:00pm. We focused our attention on
orders for baked goods, coffee, and espresso drinks, as these products are the shop s main source of
revenue and reputation. On several separate mornings we were able to observe an average of 125
orders over three hours (a takt time of 1.44 minutes). In the evening, there were often less than a
dozen orders every hour. Since every order is slightly different, we have described the average order
and the steps in the process that are consistent in almost every situation. We have identified multiple
areas for improvement, which are referenced in the sections entitled analysis and recommendations.
When waking up to Cup of Joe, customers are welcomed by a large statue of a coffee cup on the roof
of the building. After entering the shop, customers walk up to the counter directly in front of them.
The first section of the counter displays all of the baked goods on a glass shelf. The customer
continues walking down this aisle until he or she reaches the cash register, labeled above by a sign
reading Order Here. The customer places an order and proceeds down the aisle to the station labeled
Pick Up Here. After the barista takes the order, a second barista usually steps up to

Of Mice And Men Quotes About Lonliness
No one ever said lonliness is a great passtime, our whole is filled with it. We witness it almost
everyday and are, once in a while, affected by it, but never longer than we can bear. However, many
individuals during the Great Depression lived with this unbearable and inescapable lonliness, working
all day and not having anyone but themselves to care for them or to care for. Jhon Stienbeck, the
author of Of Mice and Men, demonstrates that too much lonliness can cause a person to live with the
unbearable pain of knowing that they only have themselves, shown with Candy, Crooks, and Curley s
wife Candy the old swamper showed how seniors were treated during the Great Depression, and how
because they were treated differntly. Candy says , in chapter 3, ... Show more content on

During the great depression coloured people were highley discriminated. In the book Crooks said, S
pose you didnt have nobody... a guy need somebody to be near him. Here Crooks reveals his true
loneliness by clearly stating he has nobody. Crooks is the stable buck on the ranch, and completes the
tasks that are too difficult for others to do. He is seen as inferior and is completley unwanted, which
leads to lonliness because no one wants to talk to him. He is never talked to, so he is aloof and lonely
and all he ever wishes for is someone to care for him or just be near him. Another part of the novella
Crooks shows lonliness is , long as you wont get out and leave me alone, you might as well set down.
this quote indicates that Crooks is aloof and unfriendly to white men but, enjoys everyones company.
That is because he is left all alone and never talked to, so he finds great pleassure in the smallest
interaction with others. Crooks tries to hide this but he cannot because he is lonely some times he can
not even bear it. Stienbeck demonstrate that when an individual is always alone, he will find pleasure

Seamus Heaney Digging
amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing
what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels.
I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number of
clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line,
amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217;
The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his
Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. He does
this so smoothly that the reader harldy notices the transition that took place. The second clue is
slightly more hidden. The poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That line also paints an image in the readers mind of the spade sinking in and the scratching/rasping
sound it makes. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is,
amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered firmly.
amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words levered
and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic.
However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight
amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an
edge. amp;#8217;
These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words;
squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some
reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day.
In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my mind
amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because the poet
uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make the phrase
clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye.
I think the poet amp;#8217;s attitute to work is that of a perfectionist. I get this impression because of
how picky he is about describing the way his Father and

Rheumatoid Arthritis And Its Effects On The Human Body
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which your joints are very sore and ache multiple times of the day.
This disease is in the autoimmune system because the immune system mistakenly attacks your own
body tissue and results in these pains. It ordinarily affects the small joints of your hands and feet. The
lining of these joints is attacked and causes painful swelling. It also affects other organs such as your
skin, eyes, lungs, and blood vessels. If not treated correctly it is known to cause bone deformity.
Rheumatoid arthritis is predominantly more common in women and generally begins around age 40. A
symptom of this autoimmune system disease includes tender and warm, swollen joints, usually in the
smaller joints of your body.

Free Trade Agreements And The Trade Agreement
Free trade agreements are established around the world by countries to limit restrictions on trade and
investment in hope of benefiting both countries economies. A free trade agreement removes barriers to
trade eliminating most quotas and removing tariffs on goods and services that can be exported or
imported. Many free trade agreements also remove other barriers to trade, like property protection or
restrictions on foreign service provider s industry. China a growing superpower, has the largest
population in the world and has numerous free trade agreements with different countries. China has a
free trade agreement with Australia established in 2014 and with New Zealand established in 2008.
Free trade agreements help Chinese businesses by attracting investment from Australian markets. Free

A tariff is a tax on the import of goods and services brought into the country. free trade agreements are
created to lower or remove of tariffs on the trading of goods and services. The tax may vary from a
few percent of the value, to well over 100% of the value of the item depending on its demand and
rarity. This tax is carried down to consumers, resulting in higher prices for these imported goods.
Tariffs are place to protect domestic businesses that are seen as valuable to the economy. For example,

Home-Schooling Essay
Home Schooling
Whether or not to home school your children is a controversial issue for thousands of parents every
year. Do you want to let your children go out on their own or keep them safe at home where you can
monitor their development? Many parents choose to home school their children and there are plenty of
arguments for and against this decision. When it all comes down to it the decision will be based on the
socio economic status of the family, as to whether they can afford to have one parent at home tutoring
the child, instead of out working and also whether or not they feel it is safe enough to let their children
go to the public schools.

If they could not afford to send their child elsewhere, home schooling would be a very good
alternative to sending to their child to a dangerous learning environment.
Home schooling children have many downfalls. Janine Bempecha who is the senior consultant at the
Tufts Program for Educational Change Agents claims, ??they?re missing out on the culture of
childhood as most people know it in America.? People throughout America agree with Bempecha that
teaching children at home deprives them of the ?normal? childhood experience. In addition,
throughout childhood and adolescence, is that children often learn from others and try to fit in. It is
very uncommon that someone enjoys being an outcast, which home schooling inevitably does to a
child. Pulling the child out of a school doesn?t allow them to have a social experience and it is
possible that it cripples the child socially by removing them from their friends. School is more than
just learning from book, it also included life lessons and relationships. In schools, children get to learn
how to deal with life?s ups and downs which is a major part of life. In a school setting a child will
learn how to deal with people who are unkind to them, whereas at home a parent may shield their
child from children who are picking on them. Pulling them out of this setting won?t help them learn
the everyday life lessons they need for when they are

The Paleo Diet
A fad diet is something that is short lived which everyone tries it out. In todays society many of these
diets pop up into our lives and become a must, as we all have to give it a go and report back to others
about your fantastic weight loss journey and results. But in the end of all this, do they really work and
how good are they for our health? Especially, the Paleo diet, Light and Easy and meal replacements.
One fad diet that has had a big impact on the world is the Paleo diet. This diet is based on the foods,
which were supposedly eaten by the early humans. Foods such as meat, fish, vegetables and fruit were

Meal replacements are nutritionally balanced meals that help to reduce kilojoule intake, which in the
end helps with weight loss. Meal replacements are helpful as they come in all different formulations,
such as powders, shakes, bars and soups. In the end meal replacements all come down to personal
preference. Some benefits for meal replacements is that they are portioned controlled, they are
designed to be filling, quick and convenient and there is no hassle with planning your meals as they
choice has already been made for you. Some negative aspects of meal replacements are they don t
offer the same amount of nutritional benefits as whole foods, they don t teach of how to eat a healthy
and balanced diet, they can get very pricy, and they lack in variety as they are always to same and feel
and test very repetitive. A short term effect of taking meal replacements is that can cause side effects
such as people who suffer from kidney and liver problems can gain gallstones because they lose
weight too quickly. Meal replacements are not suitable to use forever but studies show they are safe
and as a long term effect they become for effective on the body and help with more weight loss
compared to other diets. In the long run meal replacements can interfere with certain medications
especially for people suffering from diabetes as it can cause low blood sugar levels. Overall meal
replacements are good for people who need a quick fix

The Secret Of The Vietnam War
Most Americans are aware of the Vietnam war, but have never heard of the Secret War in Laos. The
War in Laos was the first of it s kind; it was the CIA s first ever paramilitary operation during the Cold
War. My family is connected to the time period of the Cold War because my grandfather was sent to a
prison camp by the Communists after the US withdrew from Indochina. My family was affected by
the event because after escaping the camp and seeking refuge in Thailand, my grandfather immigrated
to the United States and most of our family is living here now. In the 19th century, France colonized
Indochina what is now known as Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to exploit the environment for
economic gain, under the guise of wanting to spread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hmong are an ethnic group of people who live in the mountains of Laos. They were seen as
uncivilized barbarians by Laotians, Thai and Vietnamese people. The CIA hired them to become
soldiers in the Secret War, due to their strength, fighting spirit, and expert knowledge of the terrain. As
the war intensified, the US sent fighter bombers to assist Hmong ground forces against the Pathet Lao
(Lao Communist soldiers). According to Kurlantzick, by 1973 the US had conducted more than
580,000 bombing runs over Laos. In 1969 alone, writes Kurlantzick, the United States dropped more
bombs on Laos than it did on Japan during all of World War II. Yet, due to lax congressional oversight
and media ignorance the American people knew very little about any of this.
When the US withdrew in 1975, the Hmong rightly felt betrayed. They were left without support,
supplies, and nowhere to go. Most Hmong were hunted down by the Communists and thrown into
reeducation camps along with anyone else who resisted the new Communist government.
Immediately after the Communists took over, people were sent to what they called seminars or

Political Absolutism In The 18th Century
Have you ever wondered how we progressed from an absolute monarchy in most countries to a more
centralized government in which the people have a voice? The history in which we have been given

period in Western history in which king(s)/queen(s) had absolute rule over the state they were the
absolute power over every decision and the religion that they had chosen. Although Political
Absolutism dominated the west for many years, the emergence of political philosophers and their

The need of the people outweighed the power of the King. After the French Revolution, which was a
revolution to replace the old regime and replace it with a more democratic society in which the
inalienable rights of the people were protected and the church and the government would be separate

entitled to the rights of life, liberty and property [basic necessitates that one has] (Locke, John.1821),
the revolution had contextual evidence for their decision(s). The old regime was out and in turn, the
people established a constitutional monarchy in which the person in power had to consult with

government was formed based on their needs. Locke gave a foundational base in which individuals
could rebel and in turn, it created a more democratic society, which Locke defended upon. The people

Empirical Literature Review On Corporate Governance
2.4 Empirical Literature Review 2.4.1 Corporate Governance and Firms Performance The argument of
Berle and Means (1932) on corporate governance formed the foundation for further studies by various
researchers on the trend of corporate governance. Their study revealed the possibility of creating a
separation of control between the mangers who run the large size corporations and the owners who are
the provider of capital. This observation of a departure and separation of ownership and control gave
rise to a situation where emphasis is now focusing on the behavioural aspect and topical theory of the
firm. Kajola (2009) examined corporate governance and firm performance in Nigeria The result
reveals that there is a significant relationship between Return on Equity (ROE) and board size as well
as chief executive status. The study further reveals a positive significant association between Profit
Margin (PM) and chief executive. Weisbach (1988), Heranlin and Weisbach (1991) examine agency
theory and corporate governance .They observed that there is a positives relationship between firm
performance and the proportion of outside directors sitting on the board. However, in the works of

Contribution And Influence Of Voltaire
The age of enlightenment and the influence it has played in the development of society is one of many
layers. There have been many influential people who have directly contributed to the progression of
our literatures and societal norms. One of the more outspoken and notable philosophers was French
born Francois Marie Arouet also known by his pen name of Voltaire. He was born in Paris in 1694 into
to wealth. His father was a well known lawyer and dignitary who had great notoriety and influence
amongst the people he came in contact with. Voltaire made the decision early on that he was going to
be a writer and use it as his platform to speak on the issues that he felt were not being correctly
acknowledged. Volitaire s father wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

would be better managed and cause less conflict in the world. He is an established writer, poet and
advocate. He used satirical jabs to poke fun at the establishment and corrupt government as he referred
to them. He was a respected scholar who had an immense knowledge and formal training. In the 18th
century his way of teaching was not the norm, he was ahead of his time when it came to his ability to
grasp the concepts of socialism and use them to be able to teach injustice and religion being used as a
weapon to control the people. Voltaire s goal was to get people to acknowledge and overcome the
belief that God is all knowing; he wanted them to focus and realize what is actually going on in the
world around them. He did not like the tradition of rationalism and hoped for people to empower
themselves. During the enlightenment era, many people were opposed to being different, to standing
out. Voltaire, on the other hand did not care. His main focus was the people, and making known the
truth of things. He fought for civil rights; for the freedom of speech, as well as the right to a free trial.

Study Abroad Personal Statement
From an early age, I had the desire to give back to my community. This desire was likely instilled in
me by my mother, who as a school teacher, went to great lengths to help her students achieve
academically. To better do this, she created at Tupelo Middle School in Mississippi, the Mermaids and
Argonauts Program, which allowed students to travel on extended school trips to locations where they
were able to have hands on experiences at zoos, science labs, colleges, museums, and more across the
country. As her child, I was able to tag along on many of these trips, which fueled my desire to learn
about and interact with my environment. It left me with the great hope that someday I would be able
to have such experiences abroad, in order to better learn about the people and cultures with which I
interact. For this reason, I hope to study abroad this summer in Pachuca, Mexico.

Why Should Dorms And Apartments Be More Favorable For New...
Most incoming students find it difficult to decide whether to live in the dorms or apartments. This is
either because they have no one to genuinely explain how reality is in both dorms and apartments. In
addition to that, the USI website does not also provide enough details about services and activities in
dorms and apartments. This always leads incoming students to make wrong choices on where to live
on campus. Therefore, with the information I gathered from personal understanding, observation, and
interviewing a dozen students, I managed to come up with explanations of why dorms would be more
favorable to new students. Some of these reasons include proximity to classes, facilities, learning
environment and activities. According to my statistics, 80% of the students I interviewed from both
dorms and apartments preferred dorms. The common motive was, in dorms students tend to make
more friends as they meet new people frequently. I agreed with that fact because as an International
student from a communal society, I found it easy to adjust to life in the US because the more I was
around people the more things I learnt about American culture and the more I made friends. This
would have been a different story if I lived in apartment as apartments are sparser and also some
apartments in the vicinity are vacant. Apart from meeting new people, USI dorms are also more
vibrant than apartments. In dorms, there is a lot of fun activities that are always going on; for

Synthesis From The Law Of Conservation Of Energy
introduction
A thermodynamic cycle consists of a sequence of multiple thermodynamic processes that encompass
the transfer of heat and work into and out of the system. This process can have many variables within
the system including pressure, temperature. (saylor.org, n.d.)The cycle ends with the system returning
to its initial state. The first law of thermodynamics is simply an adaption from the law of conservation
of energy but is slightly changed to encompass the differences. (clarkson.edu, n.d.)
This law when put simply states that the change in energy within the system is directly proportional to
the difference of the heat input to the system and the workout put of the system. (ucdavis.edu,
n.d.)This gives the following equation:
∆U=Q W
Where;
∆U is the change in internal energy of the sytem
Q is the amount of energy added to the system through heat
W is the amount of energy lost due to work done by the sytem
Power cycles
Thermodynamic power cycles are the origin of the operation of heat engines which supply a majority
of the world electric power and also run a majority of motor vehicles. These power cycles can be put
into one of two categories; real cycles and ideal cycles. (saylor.org, n.d.)
Real cycles are those found within the real world and as quite difficult to analyse due to the presence
of complicating factors such as friction. To allow ease of design and analysis, ideal cycles were
created; these ideal models allowed engineers to study the major limitations

The Iron Mill By Rebecca Harding Davis
In Life in the Iron Mills, Rebecca Harding Davis tells the story of Hugh Wolfe, a lower class man
whose love of beauty and desire to move up in the world ultimately leads to his mental decline and
demise. Wolfe lives in a town of smothering grey smog and works in an iron mill reminiscent of Hell,
places that induce hopelessness and despair by appearance. In contrast to his surroundings, Wolfe
possesses a fierce love of beauty and a talent of sculpting with korl, both of which are frequently
associated with higher socioeconomic classes. Initially, it appears that Davis means to reinforce the
common associations of beauty with the upper class and unseemliness with the lower class. In the
story, beauty can be associated with the upper class characters through their polished appearances and
admiration of art, inciting a positive association in response to beautiful imagery; unseemliness, on the
other hand, can be associated with the lower class and negative feelings because the mill is
reminiscent of hell and the characters are generally unattractive. However, when looked at with a
closer lens, it appears the story cannot be taken at face value and the typical feelings surrounding
beauty and ugliness do not apply in the story. Appearances can be deceiving: within Life in the Iron
Mills, ugliness represents opportunity whereas the beauty serves as a distraction. By juxtaposing
unsightly and attractive, Davis shows that mobility is possible only through unattractive, hard work

Idolatry and Social Injustice and Religious Ritualism, Oh My
The Lord called prophets to speak for Him to the people regarding their sinful behavior. The prophets
were God s spokesmen, who were called by God, held accountable by God, and empowered by God to
deliver His messages. Idolatry, social injustice, and religious ritualism had become prevalent in Israel
and Judah and is rampant in today s society as well.
The prophets delivered their messages through various methods. They preached the word of God,
verbal deliverance; wrote their message(s) down, written deliverance; and used symbolic acts to
demonstrate God s message, visual deliverance. The prophets used these methods of deliverance to
warn the people of the impending judgments that would come if they did not change their sinful ways.
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have
no other gods before Me (Exod. 20:1 3 [NKJ]). The people of Israel and Judah had disobeyed the first
Law of the Lord instead they choose to worship false gods. God called numerous prophets to warn the
people regarding their sin of idolatry. Isaiah prophesized against Judah, the Lord will send a purging
judgment against his sinful people, producing a righteous remnant that will enjoy the future blessings
of salvation and restoration. Isaiah cautioned the people about practicing evil and putting their trust in
false gods. Ezekiel, the watchman, warned the people about the defiling the temple with their idolatry

The Involvement Of The Cyber Attack
In 2007 Estonia was one of the most developed nations in Europe in terms of information and
communication technology advancement. Estonia had a common practice of relying on the internet for
business transactions. In the early weeks of spring, Estonia was hit by a series of politically motivated
cyber attacks. Numerous parties and organisation suffered different forms of denial of service. The
main parties included the Estonian government agencies, schools, banks and Internet Service
Providers. The motivation for the cyber attack was due to the fact that the Estonian government made
the decision to move a Soviet memorial of World War II from its previous or initial location in central
Tallinn to a military cemetery. This resulted to an outburst and riots in the Estonian streets, violence
towards the Ambassador of Estonia, Russia implementing indirect economic sanctions and the most
relevant, politically motivated cyber attack against Estonia. The Estonian state wasn t critically
affected from the cyber attack of 2007, since to a high extend the state functions and objects of

In this point in the movie, Michael is explaining how he has continued his father s success: If anything
in this life is certain, if history s taught us anything, it s that you can kill anyone. Michael explains his
very unorthodox and illegal way of dealing with threats to his empire. It shows how for some it is
impossible to achieve the American Dream by legal ways, so people resort to illegal means, which is
still an immense issue in the United States to this day.
Adding on to that, The Godfather Part II also shows how America truly is a Melting Pot of many
different cultures. When the movie depicts Vito s first experiences right off the boat on Ellis Island, it
truly gives the sense of how many different cultures were immigrating to the United States. At
customs, it shows many different types of people all types of languages, but they were all staying in
the same spot. Continuing on that, the entire movie is focused on an Italian family and how they were
able to become successful even though they were different than everybody else. While this part of the
Melting Pot it positive, the movie also depicts the clash and conflicts between the many different
cultures, which is something that has happened all throughout American history. The Godfather in its
core is a fictional movie about a crime filled family, but in reality, it vividly shows many different
reoccurring themes in America. It highlights many of the themes

There are mathematical equations, such as the golden ratio, which can be used to supposedly create
the ideal human body. This proportion was used by Da Vinci to draw the perfect male body. An
individual is said to have a beautiful face when it has a ratio of 1.6180339, or approximately 1.62.
Facial symmetry can be measured by dividing the length of a face by the width of the widest part of

The Pros And Cons Of Ethos Research Paper
Laying on the bed very still, my mother and I were slowly becoming aware of his fate. Pros: He had
already experienced an amazing life that contained priceless memories. His old age was also taking a

How Of A Lab Report
How to Write a Lab Report
The purpose of a lab report is to describe your lab experiment in such detail (including what was used,
when it took place, who was present, how the lab went, what happened, what results were found, and
the overall discussions and conclusions) that your described experiment or lab could be replicated by
someone of similar education and training who was not present. A lab report should be written as a
description of what you did, not instructions for doing the lab. Another goal (especially at this level) is
to thoroughly explain what you did and what you learned.
When writing a lab report, do not use personal pronouns such as we or I , and so on. For example,
write, The egg was placed in a container rather than I placed the egg in a container . The report should
be written in past tense. Your paragraphs should be one and a half spaced. Choose a professional font
and use a font size of 10, 11, or 12. ALL WRITING MUST BE YOUR OWN WORDS even if you
were working with other people!
A lab report contains the following components:
Title
The title should be concise (try for less than ten words) and should reflect the factual content or
purpose of the lab / paper. A good title is straightforward and uses keywords that researchers in a
particular field will recognize (such as pH Lab , or Virtual pH Lab ).

The introduction of a lab report states the purpose of your experiment. Your hypothesis should be

immigrants in our society says a lot about our nation. We need to have a special concern for their
needs. But most importantly the call for participation. Deaf immigrants have the right to participate in
social, economic, political, and legal aspects of American life and society. Inclusion into American
culture and activities will only ease the struggle deaf immigrants face on a day to day

  • 2. Examples Of Log Entries In The Da Vinci Code 30% Log Entry The Da Vinci Code ● Describe the plot. What has happened so far? Are there parts you don t understand? Are there parts that you like? I have read roughly 200 pages in The Da Vinci Code and so far, the book has been exciting to read. The first big event that took place in the book was that Jacques Sauniére was chased down and killed. Sauniére worked as a curator at the Louvre in Paris, France and he was a well known man. After his death, the French equivalent to the FBI, DCPJ starts to investigate the case and they ask an American expert, named Robert Langdon for help. Dr. Langdon is a suspect of the murder but the police officer does not tell him about the suspicion. Instead, the officer tries to make him incriminate himself to build a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many complicated words are used and the reader needs to have a broad vocabulary to understand every single word. Anyway, I feel like you do not have to understand every word to understand the whole sentence or paragraph. In the book, there are a few metaphors and similes but many more descriptions and facts about symbols. An example would be That is, that the Grail story uses the chalice as a metaphor of something else, something far more powerful . In this quote, Dan Brown writes about metaphors but he is not using them. Instead, he chooses to describe the history of a symbolic item that really is a metaphor for the real Holy Grail. This shows that Dan Brown focuses on the iconography and symbols, not similes and metaphors. Although, Dan Brown s character Professor Langdon uses some metaphors to describe his view of the world. The narrator also uses a few similes to describe certain items but there are not many metaphors and similes. In this book a few is more than enough and I do not think that Dan Brown needs to use more similes and metaphors. If he would use more similes and metaphors, the book would only be more complicated and harder to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Island Of Dr Moreau God Complex Analysis A true God Complex Upon finishing the reading of The Island Of Dr.Moreau, a clear perception of a God Like complex is seen in the novel s antagonist the doctor himself. While many other sadistic fictional characters have large ego s that put them in charge, Moreau differentiates from the rest believing his work puts him in a god like position among his creations. Thinking like a higher power, Moreau shows a strong concern over his secret experiments as he shifts around the island working. Dr. Moreau s life work has gone into his experimentations making him fragile when it comes to tense situations on the island. This is picked up by Prendick as he sneaks into Moreau s laboratory, discovering the horror that lies upon a surgical table. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After some time on the island, Prendick is exposed to the propaganda that spreads through the beast s culture. They reference Moreau as being The law whom they fear with humble bows. The beast people display this loyal attitude as they chant in gruesome rhythm His is the Hand that wounds, his is the Hand that heals (68). The island, their village, and the dreaded Dr.Moreau that brought them into this world is all of what the beast people have come to apperceive, making them innocently gullible. One such character described by Montgomery as complex trophy of Moreau s skill, a bear, tainted with dog and ox, and one of the most elaborately made of all the creatures seems to further his loyalty towards Moreau as the novel s plot thickens. M ling separates himself from the other beasts as he is allowed to sleep in a kennel near the lodge as well as being in charge of cooking and maintaining efficiency, putting himself in an even closer relationship with his master. As Moreau and Montgomery pursue a rebellious and vicious beast, M ling puts his life before Moreau s as he attacks other beasts protecting his masters. The relationship revealing a strong influence that Moreau holds over the beasts. While M ling shows a disciple like relationship to Moreau, another character known as The Sayer Of the Law seems to be in a biblical, Preacher type ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Moose Maddon s Death Essay I believe that Moose Maddons death was an accident. In the story it says Moose Maddon was a bully to Cecil but Cecil didn t usually retaliate. Cecil is a boy who wants to go to university, on the night of his leaving Moose Martin dies. I believe that Moose Madden s death was an accident because he was drunk and tried to log roll but fell off and died. The reason I believe that Moose maddons death was an accident is because he was drunk the night of his death and went on a log and fell. In the text it says I figured it was Moose and Lefevre coming home drunk from camp three. Moose was intoxicated the night of his death which makes him clumsy and wobbly. It would be like driving drunk it s just as likely it even more likely he would fall of a log in the river as he would get into an accident. Also in the story it says, One day in the fall I will go to the ravine and see how the headline was making it. It still shocking to think that Maddon, who had been sure footed as a chipmunk, and our best log rolling contest, had fallen to his death the way he had. Moose Lilly thought he would be able to walk on the logs because he was one of the best at it. But since he was drunk he would be wobbly and his balance would be off so he fell into the ravine. ... Plato constructs this claim by arguing: (1) Either one already knows what one wants to learn, or one does not already know what one wants to learn. (Premise) (2) If one already knows what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. (Premise) (3) If one does not already know what one wants to learn, then learning is impossible. • 6. Mother Courage And Eilif Fate is a perplexing topic for even when an outcome is known there is no way of perceiving how it will come about. In Ancient Greece, the plays were written about well known tales of heroes and the playwright would warn the audience about fate. More modern plays incorporate the idea of fate in a similar fashion to the Ancient Greeks with a contemporary flair. The morbid, ugly universe that is war desecrates the greatest of human virtues (bravery, honesty, kindness, etc.) in Bertolt Brecht s Mother Courage and Her Children. Eilif, Mother Courage s brave son, joins the army, much to his mother s dismay, which is when she decides to tell her children s fortunes. She tells her children that their virtues will be the end of them; nonetheless, they do not attempt to change their fortunes. Sure enough, Eilif is persecuted for stealing a cow during a break in the war (this behavior that was considered brave during the war). Swiss Cheese, the honest son, is shot for trying to return a stolen cash box. Kattrin is shot while warning a town of an impending invasion. Mother Courage warned her children to be wary of their virtues, but none of them could change their ways or their destinies. In this way, Brecht emphasizes the disillusionment of war. ... • 7. Labor in Call Centers CRITICAL ANALYSIS TAYLOR BAIN Under scrutinized until the late 1990s, call centres have now got significant scholastic consideration. The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past their starting bases in the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early scepticism. The competitive advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of phone and VDU advances, giving immediate phone based client services and selling led to widespread of this phenomenon. the growing financial sector has given the UK government s modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are open electronically. This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories in concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. Also, it makes reference to the idea of emotional labour , as expounded at first by Hochschild (1983). An examination of the labour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First of all, I wouldn t give out statements if I m not a hundred percent sure because any false statement I can lose my career. It encompasses all the process involved in delivering the final product to the final consumer. Supply chain is filled with various uncertainties such as demand, process, and supply. Inventories are often used to protect the chain from these uncertainties. The higher the variations the more the losses and every company needs to minimize the variations and uncertainties in its supply chain. There are various causes of uncertainties. Among them few that can be listed are demand variations based on the type of product, the suppliers receipt variations which depend on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also tells us the effect of forecasting on the planning. We know about the bullwhip effect and the model shows clear signs of it. How the change in forecast is affecting the demand given by the manufacturer to its supplier. It shows clear signs within the firm itself where changes in demand by the customer is encouraging sales people to buffer up their supply to meet the demand. The model: We are considering a mean demand of D, the variations sigma, lead time of 2 8 weeks depending on the parts. As we can see the demand has been varying a lot in 2009. This has induced a forecasting error by the sales people in the manufacturing organization. It has been assumed that sales people fill the MDS data 3 months in advance for the confirmed orders. Hence it can be easily seen how the variation in the original forecast, the amount filled in the MDS and actual shipment delivered to the customer changes. Findings: The bullwhip effect increases as the lead time increases. This is because the order level needed and desired level needed are proportional to the lead time. This causes amplifying of inventory. There can also be other delays like delaying order placing. Here as we can see the decentralization has caused different forecast. This issue becomes more complicated downstream as can be seen from the chart. There is a high increase in the variation of the demand. The equilibrium depends not only on the quantities ordered ... • 11. Etruscans Vs Roman Architecture The Romans retained many ideas about buildings from their Etruscan predecessors, but they also absorbed some of the ideas of the Greek that were passed onto them by the Etruscans (Bleiberg, 2005). When looking back in time, the basic style of architecture that the Greek, Roman and Etruscans used was different but also similar in a few ways such as techniques, materials, structures, etc. For instance, when Roman architectures began to build their first temple of their time, they based the structure off the Etruscans temple. Due to the fact that their structures promoted an openness to them unlike the Greek temples. When looking at these styles closer, the Greek architecture was known for their use of columns and colonnade, but the Roman architecture was known for their use of arches and vaults. Then on the other hand the Etruscans were known for their high podiums, unfluted columns and deep porches, unlike the Greeks that were known to build shallow porches and projecting walls. The columns that the Etruscans used were spaced more apart since the structured were assumed to have weighed less than other temples, such as the Greeks marble temples. • 12. Heteronormativity Summary In society, heterosexuality is a principal method of organizing institutions and regulating individual behavior. A culture based on ideas of heterosexuality values relationships that are between men and women; as a result, sexual contact occurring between same sex individuals is seen as deviant and labeled as homosexual. In her book, Ward explains how straight white men can have sex with other white men while retaining their heterosexuality in addition to gaining a masculine appeal. Ingraham and Namaste s discussion of heteronormativity, heterogenders, and supplementarity aids in understanding why straight white men are not labeled as homosexual and how this functions to reproduce inequalities based on race, gender, and sexuality. A culture that views heterosexuality as natural and superior reproduces inequality by prioritizing the rights and voices of heterosexual individuals. Ingraham views this as a product of heteronormativity, where ideas of heterosexuality are deeply embedded in all aspects of society, thus becoming the norm and the standard to which all individuals and sexualities are measured (2994:204). In a heteronormative society, gender and sexuality are understood as biologically acquired men are naturally attracted to women and vice versa. Heteronormativity is embedded in institutions such as religion, family, government and the workplace (Bakehorn, 9/13/16). Because of an investment in heterosexuality, inequality is reproduced when homosexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, every so often a movie comes out with the influence of shakespearen plays. Some are very easy to compare, like Shakespeares play Romeo and Juliet and Disneys movie Gnomeo and Juliet. The Order Fulfillment Procedure For Cup Of Joe Project Overview For our Gemba project, we decided to analyze the order fulfillment procedure for Cup of Joe, a coffee shop located in the Lennox Town Center. In order to capture the establishment s peak hours of business, we primarily visited during the hours of 9:00am 12:00pm. We focused our attention on orders for baked goods, coffee, and espresso drinks, as these products are the shop s main source of revenue and reputation. On several separate mornings we were able to observe an average of 125 orders over three hours (a takt time of 1.44 minutes). In the evening, there were often less than a dozen orders every hour. Since every order is slightly different, we have described the average order and the steps in the process that are consistent in almost every situation. We have identified multiple areas for improvement, which are referenced in the sections entitled analysis and recommendations. When waking up to Cup of Joe, customers are welcomed by a large statue of a coffee cup on the roof of the building. After entering the shop, customers walk up to the counter directly in front of them. The first section of the counter displays all of the baked goods on a glass shelf. The customer continues walking down this aisle until he or she reaches the cash register, labeled above by a sign reading Order Here. The customer places an order and proceeds down the aisle to the station labeled Pick Up Here. After the barista takes the order, a second barista usually steps up to ... However, many individuals during the Great Depression lived with this unbearable and inescapable lonliness, working all day and not having anyone but themselves to care for them or to care for. Jhon Stienbeck, the author of Of Mice and Men, demonstrates that too much lonliness can cause a person to live with the unbearable pain of knowing that they only have themselves, shown with Candy, Crooks, and Curley s wife Candy the old swamper showed how seniors were treated during the Great Depression, and how because they were treated differntly. Seamus Heaney Digging amp;#8220;Digging ; is about a person looking out of a window at their Father digging, describing what he/she sees and then the poem goes on to describe what he/she feels. I believe that the narrative voice in the poem is in fact that of Seamus Heaney. There are a number of clues that lead me to this conclusion. The first and most obvious one is in the first line, amp;#8216;Between my finger and my thumb. amp;#8217; The poet writes in the first person throughout the poem. He writes about his Father and his Grandfather and he seems to move from describing his Father to describing his Grandfather. An example of how the author does the same thing only with the sense touch is, amp;#8216;The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered firmly. amp;#8217; In this case the second line emphasizes the first. It does this by using the words levered and firmly they make the whole phrase seem more realistic. However the best possible example of this is when the poet uses two senses to emphasize sight amp;#8216;The cold smell of potatoe mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge. amp;#8217; These two lines not only include two senses but one of the senses uses two onomatopoeic words; squelch and slap. These two words suggest someone moving through thick soggy mud for some reason it also suggests to me that it was on a cold day. In my opinion that line is also quite interesting to read because it paints a clear picture in my mind amp;#8217;s eye of someone toiling and sloshing around in the mud. I think this is because the poet uses words like; soggy, curt, cuts and edge. Since those words are sharp words they make the phrase clearer and sharper in my mind amp;#8217;s eye. This always leads incoming students to make wrong choices on where to live on campus. Therefore, with the information I gathered from personal understanding, observation, and interviewing a dozen students, I managed to come up with explanations of why dorms would be more favorable to new students. Some of these reasons include proximity to classes, facilities, learning environment and activities. According to my statistics, 80% of the students I interviewed from both dorms and apartments preferred dorms. The common motive was, in dorms students tend to make more friends as they meet new people frequently. I agreed with that fact because as an International student from a communal society, I found it easy to adjust to life in the US because the more I was around people the more things I learnt about American culture and the more I made friends. The first law of thermodynamics is simply an adaption from the law of conservation of energy but is slightly changed to encompass the differences. (clarkson.edu, n.d.) This law when put simply states that the change in energy within the system is directly proportional to the difference of the heat input to the system and the workout put of the system. (ucdavis.edu, n.d.)This gives the following equation: ∆U=Q W Where; ∆U is the change in internal energy of the sytem Q is the amount of energy added to the system through heat W is the amount of energy lost due to work done by the sytem Power cycles Thermodynamic power cycles are the origin of the operation of heat engines which supply a majority of the world electric power and also run a majority of motor vehicles. These power cycles can be put into one of two categories; real cycles and ideal cycles. (saylor.org, n.d.) Real cycles are those found within the real world and as quite difficult to analyse due to the presence of complicating factors such as friction. To allow ease of design and analysis, ideal cycles were created; these ideal models allowed engineers to study the major limitations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Iron Mill By Rebecca Harding Davis In Life in the Iron Mills, Rebecca Harding Davis tells the story of Hugh Wolfe, a lower class man whose love of beauty and desire to move up in the world ultimately leads to his mental decline and demise. Wolfe lives in a town of smothering grey smog and works in an iron mill reminiscent of Hell, places that induce hopelessness and despair by appearance. In contrast to his surroundings, Wolfe possesses a fierce love of beauty and a talent of sculpting with korl, both of which are frequently associated with higher socioeconomic classes. Initially, it appears that Davis means to reinforce the common associations of beauty with the upper class and unseemliness with the lower class. In the story, beauty can be associated with the upper class characters through their polished appearances and admiration of art, inciting a positive association in response to beautiful imagery; unseemliness, on the other hand, can be associated with the lower class and negative feelings because the mill is reminiscent of hell and the characters are generally unattractive. However, when looked at with a closer lens, it appears the story cannot be taken at face value and the typical feelings surrounding beauty and ugliness do not apply in the story. Appearances can be deceiving: within Life in the Iron Mills, ugliness represents opportunity whereas the beauty serves as a distraction. By juxtaposing unsightly and attractive, Davis shows that mobility is possible only through unattractive, hard work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Idolatry and Social Injustice and Religious Ritualism, Oh My The Lord called prophets to speak for Him to the people regarding their sinful behavior. The prophets were God s spokesmen, who were called by God, held accountable by God, and empowered by God to deliver His messages. Idolatry, social injustice, and religious ritualism had become prevalent in Israel and Judah and is rampant in today s society as well. The prophets delivered their messages through various methods. They preached the word of God, verbal deliverance; wrote their message(s) down, written deliverance; and used symbolic acts to demonstrate God s message, visual deliverance. The prophets used these methods of deliverance to warn the people of the impending judgments that would come if they did not change their sinful ways. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me (Exod. 20:1 3 [NKJ]). The people of Israel and Judah had disobeyed the first Law of the Lord instead they choose to worship false gods. God called numerous prophets to warn the people regarding their sin of idolatry. Isaiah prophesized against Judah, the Lord will send a purging judgment against his sinful people, producing a righteous remnant that will enjoy the future blessings of salvation and restoration. Isaiah cautioned the people about practicing evil and putting their trust in false gods. • 35. The Involvement Of The Cyber Attack In 2007 Estonia was one of the most developed nations in Europe in terms of information and communication technology advancement. Estonia had a common practice of relying on the internet for business transactions. In the early weeks of spring, Estonia was hit by a series of politically motivated cyber attacks. Numerous parties and organisation suffered different forms of denial of service. The main parties included the Estonian government agencies, schools, banks and Internet Service Providers. The motivation for the cyber attack was due to the fact that the Estonian government made the decision to move a Soviet memorial of World War II from its previous or initial location in central Tallinn to a military cemetery. This resulted to an outburst and riots in the Estonian streets, violence towards the Ambassador of Estonia, Russia implementing indirect economic sanctions and the most relevant, politically motivated cyber attack against Estonia. The Estonian state wasn t critically affected from the cyber attack of 2007, since to a high extend the state functions and objects of demanding information infrastructure were not interrupted. However, the world received a wake up call on the new and emerging threats of cyber attacks. • 36. Analysis Of The Godfather Part 2 The Godfather Part 2 resonates with me because it deals with being an entrepreneur and doing whatever it takes to keep the money and business flowing. While I might not be running an illicit, family business worth millions of dollars, I have had my fair share of smaller businesses and ideas to make a little bit of money. The Corleone s had businesses in many different areas, most of them being illegitimate in some way or another. The only way for them to stay afloat was to use their wits and have the lead of Vito and then Michael Corleone. For a couple years, I sold fake soccer jerseys and while it was not a super illegal crime, it was not totally legitimate. I cannot help but think of myself in the Corleone s position as a Don making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this point in the movie, Michael is explaining how he has continued his father s success: If anything in this life is certain, if history s taught us anything, it s that you can kill anyone. Michael explains his very unorthodox and illegal way of dealing with threats to his empire. It shows how for some it is impossible to achieve the American Dream by legal ways, so people resort to illegal means, which is still an immense issue in the United States to this day. Adding on to that, The Godfather Part II also shows how America truly is a Melting Pot of many different cultures. When the movie depicts Vito s first experiences right off the boat on Ellis Island, it truly gives the sense of how many different cultures were immigrating to the United States. At customs, it shows many different types of people all types of languages, but they were all staying in the same spot. Continuing on that, the entire movie is focused on an Italian family and how they were able to become successful even though they were different than everybody else. While this part of the Melting Pot it positive, the movie also depicts the clash and conflicts between the many different cultures, which is something that has happened all throughout American history. The Godfather in its core is a fictional movie about a crime filled family, but in reality, it vividly shows many different reoccurring themes in America. It highlights many of the themes ... • 38. Facial Stereotypes There are mathematical equations, such as the golden ratio, which can be used to supposedly create the ideal human body. This proportion was used by Da Vinci to draw the perfect male body. An individual is said to have a beautiful face when it has a ratio of 1.6180339, or approximately 1.62. Facial symmetry can be measured by dividing the length of a face by the width of the widest part of the face; the closer quotient is 1.62 the more beautiful a face is according to the golden ratio. Pros: He had already experienced an amazing life that contained priceless memories. His old age was also taking a toll on him, as crawling out of bed each morning was exhausting. Cons: I had known him for as long as I can could remember. Every road trip, every bike ride, he had been right by my side. Just letting him go was hard. I could feel the saltiness of my tears stinging my cheeks as they cascaded down my face, but a decision was imminent. I told him he was a good boy one last time, and while the vet injected the poison, I watched my closest family members tail slowly wag for the last time. People often define family as the ones related to them through genes or their bloodline. While growing up, typically 90% of kids will at some point own a pet (Strickland), nearly all those pets, whether it be salamanders, or cockatoos, are considered part of the family, without even being the same species. • 40. How Of A Lab Report How to Write a Lab Report The purpose of a lab report is to describe your lab experiment in such detail (including what was used, when it took place, who was present, how the lab went, what happened, what results were found, and the overall discussions and conclusions) that your described experiment or lab could be replicated by someone of similar education and training who was not present. A lab report should be written as a description of what you did, not instructions for doing the lab. Another goal (especially at this level) is to thoroughly explain what you did and what you learned. When writing a lab report, do not use personal pronouns such as we or I , and so on. For example, write, The egg was placed in a container rather than I placed the egg in a container . The report should be written in past tense. Your paragraphs should be one and a half spaced. Choose a professional font and use a font size of 10, 11, or 12. ALL WRITING MUST BE YOUR OWN WORDS even if you were working with other people! A lab report contains the following components: Title The title should be concise (try for less than ten words) and should reflect the factual content or purpose of the lab / paper. A good title is straightforward and uses keywords that researchers in a particular field will recognize (such as pH Lab , or Virtual pH Lab ). Introduction The introduction of a lab report states the purpose of your experiment. Your hypothesis should be included in the introduction, as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foreign citizens who want to live permanently in the United States require a visa and multiple forms. United States law limits the number of visas available each year, with certain limits by country. The entire immigration process is very opaque. Now add the intricate layer of being deaf. Deaf immigrants face many problems when immigrating to the U.S., along with adjusting to life in the U.S. In the 1880s the Federal Government began to regulate who could enter the United States. The primary aim of Congress was to exclude what they considered defectives or undesirables (Douglas 394). The Immigration Act of 1907 denied entry to anyone who had a physical defect being ...
