This document summarizes research into user perceptions of biometric authentication methods and passwords from a user experience perspective. The research tested four hypotheses: 1) Perceptions of security do not align with objective data, 2) Passwords are perceived as secure despite weaknesses, 3) Less familiar methods are seen as less secure, 4) More important accounts lead to better password memory. The findings supported all hypotheses and showed design principles for secure yet convenient authentication should balance access, invasiveness, and desired friction.
