This document discusses Lent and the virtues versus sins. It begins by noting we are in Lent and asks what we should do. It suggests spring cleaning. It then discusses how Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness after being baptized, and was tempted by the devil but resisted. The rest of the document contrasts the seven deadly sins with their corresponding virtues, providing descriptions and reflections on pride, envy, anger, greed, gluttony, lust, and sloth. It concludes with schedules for Lent and Holy Week services at St. Augustine's Church.

The Rosary is one of the most beloved and distinctive Roman Catholic prayers. The prayer has a long tradition in history, but is remarkably modern, at least by Catholic standards.
"Realize the power in your hand with the Rosary, for in your hands you hold the power of God. If you do not recognize the Rosary, can you expect to be recognized by My Son? How much can you expect? Why do you hide My Rosary? It was with a Mother's loving heart that I chose to give you these pearls of Heaven that you reject.
"Woe to all dedicated who seek to remove these from the little ones' hands, for their punishment will be metered in accordance to it!
"Why has sophisticated man cast aside these tokens of My love? Those who remain true to My Rosary will not be touched by the fires. Gather these treasures, My children, for the time will come that you will not find them on the counters of your stores." - Our Lady of the Roses, October 6, 1970.

Jesus Speaks to Power in Mark 12:1-12 | A Sermon for Lent 3Steve Thomason
Jesus uses a parable about tenant farmers to attack the religious leaders of Jerusalem. He answers the question, "Who do you think you are?" with two statements. First, he is the vineyard owner's son. Second, he is the stone the builders rejected who is the true cornerstone of Israel.

I want us to think about the question...WHAT IF? When you hear that question, how does it make you feel? Yell it out!
The question, “What if?” brings about fear in me…I hear stuff like…
What if they don’t like me?
What if they don’t think I’m good enough?
What if I mess up?
What if I don’t look like them?
What if, what if, what if!
• Gifts will pass away, and what we are left with is what God wants us to have most of…love.
• See, if we have a church that is known for preaching, we have missed it.
• If we are known for our singers, we’ve missed it.
• If it’s our programs, we’ve missed it again.
• If our church isn’t known for its love, we have missed what God created us for, and why the body of Christ exists in the first place.
Love says I need you. Love says you’re worth the risk, the pain, and the discomfort. Love proves each piece matters.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

pride is the distortion of
what is real, what is true.

Humility is living in the truth.
Before God we are lowly, for
He is high and to be adored.
36. Envy can’t stand that
someone else has something
you don’t.
Love cures envy because you
wish the best for another. This
is love the way God loves.
37. Envy can be individual, and it
can also be corporate,
societal.
38. Envy can be individual, and it
can also be corporate,
societal.
We can’t love the way God loves
without God’s grace.
To love, you must seek another’s
good above your own.
39. Envy leads to other sins, and
excuses them in the name of
justice, equality, fairness.
40. Envy leads to other sins, and

Love brings good to all,
ends strife, supplies
without end.

Time can serve us. We can

Patience is linked to another
virtue…
47. Anger, wrath, desire to hurt
and destroy are signs of our
enemy making inroads in us.
Trust. With patience and
trust, we cool the passions of
wrath and anger.
48. Our society hasn’t got a clue
about patience. Is it any
wonder we’re so angry?
Isn’t there another answer?
Trust, patience, faith, hope.
And once more, Love.

pride, as a virtue in place of
diligence or trust.
52. This sin is raised up, like

Contentment is a gift from
God. There is no adequate
picture of it, but you know
when it is yours.
53. Christ taught us not to lay up
treasures on earth. The earth
bound treasures rust and
decay.
54. Christ taught us not to lay up
treasures on earth. The earth
bound treasures rust and
decay.
St. Paul wrote that in every
condition he could find
contentment.
55. When you always want you
will always be in want.
If God is all you want, He
will give you Himself and all
that He has.
58. Gluttony is sold with pretty
pictures that make our
mouths water…
59. Gluttony is sold with pretty
pictures that make our
mouths water…
…and we can hardly find a
picture that depicts
temperance.
60. Gluttony – if looked at
squarely and honestly is so
unattractive as to gross us out.
61. Gluttony – if looked at
squarely and honestly is so

And the pictures of what
temperance lead to become
for us a new model.
62. If we only understood
the rich feast that we
are being treated with…
…we would never feel want
and would joy in it
abundantly.
We are truly rich.
64. Lust is inordinate sexual
desire and out-of-bounds
sexual activity.
Chastity, purity, also lights our
nights and fulfills us with joy,
where it belongs.
65. Lust is a huge industry, leads
to addictions and to broken
hearts and ruined families.
Chastity is treated as a joke.
But we know who we are wed
to, and must be faithful to.
66. Lust hides behind symbols, is
called ‘adult,’ and is the basis
of much ill-placed humor.
But true human love is too
beautiful to hide, and fulfills
our every desire for meaning.
71. We avoid doing the hard
things and make excuses for
doing poorly, or doing nothing.
…instead of getting down to it
and doing the work at hand,
that needs to be done.
72. If we are motivated only by
the money we get, we also
may sink to lower ways of
getting what we need…
…but doing something hard is
itself a reward and an
accomplishment we can look
at and be thankful for.
