THIS IS A STUDY OF JESUS AS BEING MERCIFUL. THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES OF HIS MERCY, AND SOME WILL BE SHOWN HERE. HE WAS MERCIFUL LIKE HIS FATHER IN HEAVEN, AND HE SHOWED IT TO SINNERS.
This is the first part of a series we are doing about faith development at Cafechurch Melbourne (www.cafechurch.org), largely based on John J Shea's book "Finding God Again." We want to be adults, with fully functional adult faith, but how do we go about it? This session is about the God of the superego with which we start our journey. These images of God aren't wrong exactly, but they become increasingly inadequate, and as we develop, we need to develop more adequate notions of God.
This sermon explores how we can go about deepening our faith. It contains numerous quotes and insights from John Ortberg's book, "If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat."
Ever wonder why people are always speaking to us as if there is a magical formula to life? Well there is'nt. Our life has purpose and that purpose is all in JESUS; HE is our key to a fulfilling life. JESUS is the only formula any of us will ever need.
In the third fireside in the series “Christ’s Ideals for Living” we look at how Christ lived and taught the ideals of Prayer, Forgiveness and Sacrifice.

Who is really supposed to be in control of our lives? Ameerah Lewis of http://www.hem-of-his-garment-bible-study.org explains how our self-growth and self-sufficient world can create barriers between Believers seeking true intimacy with God and a Heavenly Father that longs for intimacy with us.
Slides for a talk given at Blazing Fire on July 20, 2019. Welcoming Holy Spirit to fully access our heart. Here is the link to the podcast: https://www.podbean.com/eu/pb-t2b8u-b89896 God's "hesed" love for us, the work of Holy Spirit in our hearts, the problem of being "stiff-necked"/narcissistic, and the challenge of loving our enemies.
The Parable of the Sower and the Seed (Luke 8) is about radical transformation from dirt to new life that happens from God's Word and the dangers that come for those seeking spiritual growth!
We've got to allow God to strip down all the years of grime and cheap paint piled on top of each other. He needs to get down to the bare original so He can begin to fill the cracks, sand the rough edges, and make our hearts beautiful again. He’s already looked beneath the layers and has determined that we're all worth doing over.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

[Our] church, and the story to which it is
accountable, has some very definite ideas about
the goal of life, the purpose of human existence.
[Our] worship is not just another narcotic in an
anesthetizing culture. Worship is our attempt to
listen to God [and learn our story].

We begin with the assumption that many of us are
in pain today, drifting, unhappy, unfulfilled, not
because we have not tried to find pleasure,
direction, happiness and satisfaction, Lord knows
we’ve tried. We are miserable because we have
been looking for fulfillment in the wrong places,
fulfilling our hungers with cheap nourishments,
attempting to base our lives on the lies rather than
on the truth. We come to church empty and numb.

Discipleship means being willing to move on every level,
leaving the old life behind, following Jesus wherever he

what he says but who he is on the deepest level of our

(our deepest self) to be transformed. This is no small,
