Paths are linear landscape spaces used for travel that can take various forms such as trails, routes, or lines of movement. Paths are classified based on their topographical features, the degree of human intervention in their construction, materials used, and adjacent vegetation. Edges are linear interfaces between spaces or landscape regions that have different functions or physical characteristics. Edges include ecotones, which are transition areas between biomes, as well as horizons, banks, ridges, and ditches defined by topographical features. Vegetation and built edges can also soften boundaries or demarcate spaces.
