En inglés, el pasado simple o past simple es uno de los tiempos verbales esenciales y que se utiliza con mucha frecuencia. Utilizando el pasado simple o past simple nos referimos a acciones que se llevaron a cabo en un tiempo anterior y finalizaron, bien sean generalidades o acciones cotidianas o que también se repiten.
2. simple Past
• The simple past or simple past tense of a verb can be structured in the
affirmative form, negative form or question form.
• In the affirmative form, the verb, when it is regular, the ending -ed is added.
For the negative form, the verb remains in the infinitive, that is, without
adding the ending -ed. The same happens for the question form, the verb
remains in the infinitive.
3. simple Past
• We can see an example of the above using the verb jump in the past simple
or simple past, in its three forms and in different grammatical persons
• In the case of regular verbs, when the simple past is formed, it is enough to
add the ending -ED. This is a rule that applies in most cases, although there
are some exceptions.
• VERB SIMPLE PAST work worked jump jumped talktalked
4. AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE
INTERROGATIVE

5. Verbs with spelling changes and exceptions
• Here are some spelling rules to keep in mind when applying the simple past:
• 1 If the verb ends in e, just add -d. Example: love (to love) – loved.
• 2 If the verb ends in a consonant plus the y, this is replaced by i and then the
ending -ed is added. Example: cry (cry) – cried. On the other hand, if the
verb ends in a vowel plus y, only the ending -ed is added. Example: enjoy
(enjoy) – enjoyed.
6. Irregular verbs
• As for irregular verbs, they do not follow defined rules to form the past
simple or simple past, so you have to study them individually and memorize
them.
