Dysmenorrhea among Adolescent Girls in Selected Schools at Mangalore with Vie...iosrjce
Background: Primary dysmenorrhea is one of the commonest menstrual problems among adolescent girls
which affects their daily activities and academic activities. Hence, preventing and managing dysmenorrhea is a
crucial aspect of adolescent reproductive health. Providing health education is an ideal method to bring about
awareness regarding the management of dysmenorrhea which further can help them to improve their
reproductive health.
Methods And Materials: A descriptive design was adopted. Data was collected with structured interview
schedule among 300 adolescent girls studying in Mangalore One CBSC School and Kanachur Public School,
Mangalore.
Result: The mean age at menarche of the participants was 12.7 ± 0.697 years. More than half of adolescent
girls (52.3%) had 3 to 4 days of menses with the cycle of 28 to 30 days (64.7%). Three fourth of them had
experienced dysmenorrhea in last three cycles among which 77.2% had mild symptoms and remaining had
moderate symptoms. All most all of the girls (99.6%) have abdominal pain followed by irritability (76.4%).
Other common symptoms experienced by girls were pain radiated to the thighs and legs (48%), back ache
(39.6%), lack of concentration (37.8%), headache (30.7%). About 48% of the adolescent girls had limitation of
daily activities during menstruation. Majority of the participants (70.7%) did not have any physician
consultation and 77.8% use self medications, mainly tablet paracetamol (67.6% ). There was a significant
association between the level of dysmenorrhea and age, educational status and age at menarche of adolescent
girls (p< 0.05).
Conclusion: Most of the adolescent girls have mild to moderate level of dysmenorrhea which has affected
their daily activities. Hence educational activities are necessary to increase the adolescent girls’ awareness on
dysmenorrhea and its management.
A Comparative Study on Blood Components Utilization in Selected Hospital-Bloo...iosrjce
Blood components preparations are undertaken to maximize the potential benefits of the components
present in the whole blood. These blood components are indicated in the treatment of various conditions
including bleeding disorders, trauma, and blood loss due to surgery. A retrospective study on blood
components utilizations of King Khalid Hospital, Maternity Hospital and Hail General Hospital was
conducted. The analysis revealed that King Khalid Hospital has the highest number of utilization for packed
red blood cells, fresh frozen plasma and platelet concentrate. Hail General Hospital has the highest number of
utilization for whole blood. Packed red blood cells is the blood component with the highest utilization among
the three hospital-blood banks. Upgrading of inventory and management of blood and blood components is
essential. Database linkage among the three hospitals on inventory of blood and blood products should be
established to maximize the use of these resources and minimize the wastage.

Diabetes is fast gaining the status of a potential epidemic in India with more than 62 million diabetic
individuals currently diagnosed with the disease. In 2000, India (31.7 million) topped the world with the highest
number of people with diabetes mellitus followed by China (20.8 million) with the United States (17.7 million)
in second and third place respectively. The prevalence of diabetes is predicted to double globally from 171
million in 2000 to 366 million in 2030 with a maximum increase in India..In addition to this, the complications
associated with diabetes is also in the higher rate .

The Management of diabetes is most critical part, Lifestyle modifications like dietary modifications, physical
activity like aerobic exercise, some major drugs of diabetes management, insulin therapy, foot care of diabetes
and annual screening. Most of the patients are economically poor. So the researcher found that aerobic exercise
is economical and have lot of health benefits on diabetic patients.
Aim: The aim of study is to check the effectiveness of video assisted teaching regarding aerobic exercise and
practice to maintain blood glucose level among diabetes.
Methodology: The research approach adopted for the present study is an Quantitative research approach and
the design adopted was quasi experimental design. The setting for the study was Crescent Hospital,
Alathur .Palakkad, Kerala. The sample size of the present study was 50, simple random sampling technique was
used to select samples.
Finding: The pre test and post mean value of blood glucose among experimental and control group was
173.2,149.96 &153.16 ,148.92 .The pre test and post mean score of knowledge on practice among
experimental and control group was 11.4,15.08 and 11.04,11.68 .In experimental group the obtained ‘t’value
for the blood glucose was 2.347 and obtained ‘t’value knowledge on practice was 8.742 .The demographic
variables had no association with the post blood glucose value . Conclusion: The present study result shows
the effectiveness of video assisted teaching regarding aerobic exercise in reduction of blood glucose level
among diabetes.
