Commonality
Strangers feel more comfortable in superficially familiar
groups. This creates a common ground.
Hidden Commonality
Aspects of individuals that are similar can be hidden. This
common ground could bring people who have differ-
ences together.

Birthdays
One thing people have in
common is having a birth-
day. This concept will allow
people to experience diverse
attitudes across cultures,
geographic locations, and
age ranges through the com-
monality of birthdays. This
design:
1. Lets you update your
“status” on your birthday.
You can share an image and
leave a reflective comment
for that birthday.
2. You get to see what others
are doing. For example, I can
browse a different geograph-
ical location, age range, etc...
Data can readily be obtained
from social media sites to
obtain a broad picture, while
users must join to see posts.
Just a small gathering with some friends I’m so excited, I hope I get what I want for
my birthday!
Oh no, I’m losing my hair. I really hate get-
ting older.
