Impact Report
Partnership 4 Kids is a goal setting and group mentoring
program that builds hope for students and helps them create
a foundation for success from pre-kindergarten to careers.
Message from
our President
The 2019-20 school year ended differently than anyone
expected. But in the face of adversity, P4K worked
strategically to move forward as leaders in the community.
We rapidly adapted all our programming to a virtual format,
demonstrating to our students that nothing will interfere
with our mission to partner with them in their education.
When schools closed, we wanted to ensure our elementary
students could continue practicing their reading skills
at home; so we went to work and delivered 100% of the
remaining books and corresponding activities. We also
enlisted the help of our amazing Book Buddy volunteers to
record readings of each book and posted them on our website
for students to follow along.
While we continued to execute our post-secondary and career
curriculum, we quickly realized that students and their families needed
more. We partnered with other nonprofits to provide needed food, masks,
cleaning supplies, and more including home deliveries.
The tumultuous events of 2020 left our students looking for a safe space for their voices to be heard. We
addressed these needs by organizing student-led forums where they could express their thoughts and
experiences. We developed a diversity, equity, and inclusion program facilitated by both our staff and
students. These have been a valuable platform to help our students navigate school and other issues.
The Partnership 4 Kids staff continues to make regular food and supply deliveries to P4K families in need
and provide emergency funding and guidance when needed. This year was difficult one, but I’m proud
of all we accomplished. We remained student focused and committed to their education, personal
perseverance, and well-being.
Sincerely,
Deb Denbeck, President
Our Mission
To mentor kids for college today and careers tomorrow.
Our Vision
To build a better community by inspiring hope, engaging minds, and
launching futures through goal setting, mentoring, college, and careers.
History
1989
Mike and Dr. Gail Yanney began a mentoring program for 20 students at
McMillan Middle School – all of whom continued on their educational path to
become college graduates. This program became known as All Our Kids.
1996
Jerry and Cookie Hoberman created the Winners Circle program at Belvedere
Academy recognizing students for their academic achievements. Winners
Circle engaged students, teachers, families, and the community in education.
2007
Mary and Dick Holland were instrumental in joining All Our Kids and Winners
Circle to help more students stay in school and graduate. This collaboration
became Partnership 4 Kids.
2019
Partnership 4 Kids celebrated 30 years of mentoring youth into post-
secondary education and sustainable careers.

Elementary
In elementary school, P4K promotes literacy and goal setting.
Through twice monthly visits, P4K volunteers provide support
and encouragement to students in achieving goals in reading
and life skills. P4K also introduces the continuum of group
mentoring and college and career exploration that they will
experience in the P4K Program.
Middle School
In middle school students apply to be in our group mentoring
after-school program. Meetings 2-3 times monthly with P4K
staff and mentors provide students dynamic and immersive
experiences to begin exploring a wide array of careers and
post-secondary opportunities, while reinforcing the importance
of academic engagement.
High School
Students continue to meet twice per month after school with P4K
staff and volunteer mentors in high school. Curriculum focuses
on honing strengths, career interests, and post-secondary
options. P4K helps keep students on-track to graduate within
4 years, and ensures they gain the skills necessary to succeed
in post-secondary education and their future career through
college and career experiences and job shadow opportunities.
Post-Secondary
P4K invests heavily in the final stage of the P4K program through
financial scholarships and continued support for students
throughout their 2-year or 4-year degree pursuits. P4K provides
intensive case management support and resources to mitigate
circumstances that may threaten a student's ability to persist in
their post-secondary program.

Our students
Every child has the potential to excel in academics
and become successful in a career that brings
them both joy and a living wage. Unfortunately,
many children in Omaha struggle to fulfill
their potential because they must focus on
fundamental priorities. The students we serve
are often learning to navigate housing and food
insecurities. Their opportunities can be limited by
finances and geography. Their sights may not be
set on their futures because they are focused on
meeting daily needs.
This is where Partnership 4 Kids makes the
greatest impact. Our curriculum inspires hope
and futuristic thinking. We build on students'
innate strengths and expose them to a multitude
of careers and post-secondary pathways. We
prioritize Omaha youth because we know that
their future, their education, and their sense of
community will impact all of us.

Elementary | Book Buddy
Our young readers look forward to their twice monthly Book Buddy visits
when a community volunteer reads a book aloud to the class. Afterward,
the Book Buddy leads a fun, engaging reading comprehension activity
and P4K provides a copy of the book for each child to take home and build
their own library.
Goals
· Provide access to age-appropriate reading materials for students' homes
· Support literacy development through reading comprehension activities
· Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance

Elementary | Goal Buddy
Students learn the importance of goal setting to foster a future-focused mindset.
P4K encourages students to set goals for reading, behavior, attendance, and
other academic and life skills. Students meet twice monthly in small groups with
a volunteer Goal Buddy. Together, groups discuss their goals related to college,
careers, and problem-solving as another reinforcement for students to think about
their future.
Goals
· Support students in setting and achieving academic and life skills goals
· Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance
· Engage students in early college and career exploration

2019-20 Highlights
• Goal Buddy Groups
The Goal Buddy program transitioned from short, 1:1 sessions between Goal Buddies
and students to 30 minute sessions between a Goal Buddy and a group of 3-4
students. The curriculum topics they discuss cover goal setting, attendance, friendship,
careers, college, and gratitude.
• First College Tour
Every year 4th grade students go on their first college tour with P4K to the University
of Nebraska-Omaha. In a post-tour survey, students said their favorite locations on
campus were the TV station and exploring campus housing. The students learned
about what it's like to live on campus, all the majors to choose from in college, and
available career opportunities.

2019-20 Highlights
• Book Buddy Program Expansion
In 2019, the Book Buddy program expanded to serve grades pre-k through 3rd (previously
through 1st grade). The fall semester was a great success with over 11,000 books
distributed to students in just the first semester. This capacity increase to Book Buddy
continues to be well-received by teachers, mentors, and principals.
• UNO Basketball Game
In partnership with UNO, P4K took 450 elementary students to attend a men's basketball
game. This event was created to demonstrate college life outside the classroom to P4K
students who have begun to learn about college. Students brought their lunch from
school for the game, and the Sherman Elementary Chorus got to sing the national
anthem to kick off the game.
Middle School
Middle school is where P4K's group mentoring model takes center stage. Grades
6-8 participate in after-school group mentoring meetings 2-3 times per month.
P4K staff lead curriculum-based meetings focused on topics of post-secondary
and career exploration. Volunteer mentors matched with students provide
additional support and guidance. Plus, P4K students engaged in several post-
secondary and career experiences throughout the middle school program.
Goals
· Students maintain a C or higher in core Math and English classes
· Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance
· Engage students in post-secondary and career exploration activities
Overview
2019-20 Highlights
• Mentor-Mentee Engagement Roll Out
Over 200 P4K 6th and 7th grade students and mentors attended our fall semester kick-off at
Hope Skate, a fun event to start the school year with roller skating and team building activities.
The event is great for relationship building between mentors and peers in the P4K program. It's
also a great way to reward students for their hard work and participation in P4K curriculum.
• RESPECT – Healthy Relationships
P4K scheduled RESPECT, an educational theatre company, to present a production to 7th
graders. The interactive production was called "Choices" and engaged students in identifying
situations of bullying, teen dating violence, suicide, and depression. RESPECT provided healthy
strategies students can use in unhealthy or peer pressure situations.
• Shark Tank
In this annual project, P4K 8th grade students create a business model for a popcorn
company. Students work on their business model for about 2 months before pitching it to
a panel of "Sharks." Students then set up shop selling their unique popcorn creations at
designated areas throughout the city. All the money raised funds their spring service learning
project that takes place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

High School 2019-20
High School continues the programming model of after-school meetings led by
P4K staff, accompanied by mentors. The focus of career and post-secondary
readiness become more specific to students' interests and strengths. The
curriculum ensures students receive the skills and knowledge needed to succeed
in their post-secondary and career pursuits.
Goals
· Students maintain a C or higher in core Math and English classes
· Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance
· Engage students in post-secondary and career readiness training and activities

• UNO + TLC Service Learning
P4K 10th grade studentsspent the fall semester working in partnership with second-
year Thompson Learning Community students at UNO growing their skills in business
professionalism. Students created elevator pitches, resumes, and learned about
appropriate professional attire.
• College Tours
In the fall, 11th and 12th grade students visited UNL on a day off from school. Students
went on a campus tour, attended a panel discussion given by P4K students
attending UNL, and enjoyed lunch on campus. Meanwhile, 9th grade students toured
MCC's Fort campus, exploring the culinary, horticulture, construction, and emerging
technology buildings.
• Career Tours
A group of P4K 9th and 12th grade students toured Turner Construction and the
Facebook Data Center in the fall. They learned about the various careers a person
can have at these companies and participate in hands-on activities.

Post-Secondary 2019-20
To support students through this final, critical stage of their academic career, P4K provides
intensive individual case management, last-dollar-in scholarships, and networking and
internship opportunities for career placement. P4K has satellite offices on University of
Nebraska-Omaha and Metro Community College campuses giving students easy access to
our staff for consistent support. P4K staff meet with students as needed to provide one-to-
one support and offer monthly on-campus workshops that provide tips, skills, and tools for
personal and academic success. Additionally, first-year students are matched with a senior
peer mentor as an added support in navigating college life and find community on campus.
Goals
· Students will gain connections to activities and supportive resources to promote
campus engagement, academic success, and college persistence.
· Students will graduate from post-secondary programs with less debt through P4K's
annual scholarship support in attaining other financial aid opportunities.
· Students will gain the knowledge and skills to successfully enter a career upon degree/
certificate completion, attaining self-sufficiency.

Summer Workshops 2019-20
P4K Summer Fun Daily Challenge: About 70 middle school students participated in
this 15-day challenge, which provided two daily activities to choose from to exercise
mind and body. P4K staff delivered necessary supplies to complete the challenges
to students' homes each week. Students who completed at least one challenge each
day received a reward at the end of the challenge. Some activities were: do yoga,
learn to juggle, make a card for your hero, call your mentor, take a virtual tour of a
museum or zoo, do a puzzle, create an ad or new cover for your favorite book, etc.
Virtual Engagement: In addition to regular case management, P4K high school staff
also organized fun virtual events to stay connected with students over the summer,
such as Pictionary, Disney trivia, Bring Your Pet to Lunch Hour, a virtual scavenger
hunt, and more.
Wayne State College: P4K partnered with Wayne State to provide interactive, virtual
campus tours and a student Q&A panel for a group of P4K high school students who
were interested in learning more about Wayne State.
Summer Bridge: Our annual Summer Bridge is a mandatory
half-day session for all new P4K post-secondary scholarship
recipients, which is designed to help students transition
smoothly to college. Summer Bridge topics include
financial aid, scholarship expectations, and P4K in
college vs high school.
Graduation Parade: In June we held a graduation
parade for P4K college graduates. P4K staff delivered
graduate gift baskets with notes from donors and the P4K
Board congratulating their completion of college!
College Send Off: Our annual College Send-Off in August is
when P4K students starting college in the fall receive their college
basket sponsored by agency donors. It's a laundry basket filled with necessities like
towels, bed sheets, laundry detergent, hygiene supplies, and more. This year staff
delivered baskets to students' homes.

To keep students engaged in their education year-to-year, P4K offers summer
workshops that are tailored to students' various career interests. In 2019-20, 165
students participated in 37 workshops. The 2020 summer was a bit different from our
usual summer programming. Here are some highlights of how we kept P4K students
engaged and feeling connected during their summer in quarantine:

Mentor Advocates
P4K defines a Mentor Advocate as any group, company, or organization with three or more
individuals mentoring P4K students. Thank you to our 18 Mentor Advocates from 2019-20!
Program Impact 2019-20
Like the rest of the world, P4K programming looked a bit different last year as our
staff shifted our after-school programming to take place virtually.
We went from the classroom to Zoom and built interactive virtual lessons on
new platforms. We dropped off food and hygiene supplies to students in need
whose families were struggling during the pandemic. From virtual cooking lessons
to virtual college tours and hundreds of hours of mentoring in between, P4K
continued to help students stay on track in school and prepare for their future.

Partnership 4 Kids 2019-20 Impact Report

  • 1. 2019-20 academic year Impact Report Partnership 4 Kids is a goal setting and group mentoring program that builds hope for students and helps them create a foundation for success from pre-kindergarten to careers.
  • 2. Message from our President The 2019-20 school year ended differently than anyone expected. But in the face of adversity, P4K worked strategically to move forward as leaders in the community. We rapidly adapted all our programming to a virtual format, demonstrating to our students that nothing will interfere with our mission to partner with them in their education. When schools closed, we wanted to ensure our elementary students could continue practicing their reading skills at home; so we went to work and delivered 100% of the remaining books and corresponding activities. We also enlisted the help of our amazing Book Buddy volunteers to record readings of each book and posted them on our website for students to follow along. While we continued to execute our post-secondary and career curriculum, we quickly realized that students and their families needed more. We partnered with other nonprofits to provide needed food, masks, cleaning supplies, and more including home deliveries. The tumultuous events of 2020 left our students looking for a safe space for their voices to be heard. We addressed these needs by organizing student-led forums where they could express their thoughts and experiences. We developed a diversity, equity, and inclusion program facilitated by both our staff and students. These have been a valuable platform to help our students navigate school and other issues. The Partnership 4 Kids staff continues to make regular food and supply deliveries to P4K families in need and provide emergency funding and guidance when needed. This year was difficult one, but I’m proud of all we accomplished. We remained student focused and committed to their education, personal perseverance, and well-being. Sincerely, Deb Denbeck, President Our Mission To mentor kids for college today and careers tomorrow. Our Vision To build a better community by inspiring hope, engaging minds, and launching futures through goal setting, mentoring, college, and careers. History 1989 Mike and Dr. Gail Yanney began a mentoring program for 20 students at McMillan Middle School – all of whom continued on their educational path to become college graduates. This program became known as All Our Kids. 1996 Jerry and Cookie Hoberman created the Winners Circle program at Belvedere Academy recognizing students for their academic achievements. Winners Circle engaged students, teachers, families, and the community in education. 2007 Mary and Dick Holland were instrumental in joining All Our Kids and Winners Circle to help more students stay in school and graduate. This collaboration became Partnership 4 Kids. 2019 Partnership 4 Kids celebrated 30 years of mentoring youth into post- secondary education and sustainable careers. Black/African American: 31% Hispanic/Latinx: 26% Caucasian: 16% Asian: 8% American Indian or Alaska Native: 2% Other: 17% Elementary In elementary school, P4K promotes literacy and goal setting. Through twice monthly visits, P4K volunteers provide support and encouragement to students in achieving goals in reading and life skills. P4K also introduces the continuum of group mentoring and college and career exploration that they will experience in the P4K Program. Middle School In middle school students apply to be in our group mentoring after-school program. Meetings 2-3 times monthly with P4K staff and mentors provide students dynamic and immersive experiences to begin exploring a wide array of careers and post-secondary opportunities, while reinforcing the importance of academic engagement. High School Students continue to meet twice per month after school with P4K staff and volunteer mentors in high school. Curriculum focuses on honing strengths, career interests, and post-secondary options. P4K helps keep students on-track to graduate within 4 years, and ensures they gain the skills necessary to succeed in post-secondary education and their future career through college and career experiences and job shadow opportunities. Post-Secondary P4K invests heavily in the final stage of the P4K program through financial scholarships and continued support for students throughout their 2-year or 4-year degree pursuits. P4K provides intensive case management support and resources to mitigate circumstances that may threaten a student's ability to persist in their post-secondary program. The Stages of our Program Demographics in 2019-20 Partnership 4 Kids serves students in the following OPS schools: 16 OPS Schools 3,398 Students Served 87% of P4K Students qualify for free or reduced lunch 31% of P4K families report an income under $25,000/year. Ethnicity program-wide Our students Every child has the potential to excel in academics and become successful in a career that brings them both joy and a living wage. Unfortunately, many children in Omaha struggle to fulfill their potential because they must focus on fundamental priorities. The students we serve are often learning to navigate housing and food insecurities. Their opportunities can be limited by finances and geography. Their sights may not be set on their futures because they are focused on meeting daily needs. This is where Partnership 4 Kids makes the greatest impact. Our curriculum inspires hope and futuristic thinking. We build on students' innate strengths and expose them to a multitude of careers and post-secondary pathways. We prioritize Omaha youth because we know that their future, their education, and their sense of community will impact all of us. 3 4 Elementary Schools Middle Schools High Schools Field Club Elementary Gifford Park Elementary Minne Lusa Elementary Fontenelle Elementary Franklin Elementary Sherman Elementary Lewis & Clark Middle School RM Marrs Magnet Center McMillan Middle School Monroe Middle School Norris Middle School Benson High Magnet Center Central High School North High Magnet Center Northwest High Magnet Center South High Magnet Center
  • 4. Elementary | Book Buddy Our young readers look forward to their twice monthly Book Buddy visits when a community volunteer reads a book aloud to the class. Afterward, the Book Buddy leads a fun, engaging reading comprehension activity and P4K provides a copy of the book for each child to take home and build their own library. Goals · Provide access to age-appropriate reading materials for students' homes · Support literacy development through reading comprehension activities · Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance Overview 2019-20 5 Elementary | Goal Buddy Students learn the importance of goal setting to foster a future-focused mindset. P4K encourages students to set goals for reading, behavior, attendance, and other academic and life skills. Students meet twice monthly in small groups with a volunteer Goal Buddy. Together, groups discuss their goals related to college, careers, and problem-solving as another reinforcement for students to think about their future. Goals · Support students in setting and achieving academic and life skills goals · Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance · Engage students in early college and career exploration Overview Goal Buddy by the numbers 2019-20 Highlights • Goal Buddy Groups The Goal Buddy program transitioned from short, 1:1 sessions between Goal Buddies and students to 30 minute sessions between a Goal Buddy and a group of 3-4 students. In a post-tour survey, students said their favorite locations on campus were the TV station and exploring campus housing. The students learned about what it's like to live on campus, all the majors to choose from in college, and available career opportunities. 2019-20 6 of reading goals achieved 81% of life skills goals achieved 71% college tour 1 students served 1,657 books distributed for kids' home libraries 21,849 of those were distributed during COVID-19 school closure in the spring 4,715 of attendance goals achieved 95% students served 790 Book Buddy by the numbers 2019-20 Highlights • Book Buddy Program Expansion In 2019, the Book Buddy program expanded to serve grades pre-k through 3rd (previously through 1st grade). The fall semester was a great success with over 11,000 books distributed to students in just the first semester. This capacity increase to Book Buddy continues to be well-received by teachers, mentors, and principals. • UNO Basketball Game In partnership with UNO, P4K took 450 elementary students to attend a men's basketball game. This event was created to demonstrate college life outside the classroom to P4K students who have begun to learn about college. Students brought their lunch from school for the game, and the Sherman Elementary Chorus got to sing the national anthem to kick off the game.
  • 5. Middle School Middle school is where P4K's group mentoring model takes center stage. Grades 6-8 participate in after-school group mentoring meetings 2-3 times per month. Plus, P4K students engaged in several post- secondary and career experiences throughout the middle school program. Goals · Students maintain a C or higher in core Math and English classes · Reinforce the critical importance of regular school attendance · Engage students in post-secondary and career exploration activities Overview 2019-20 Highlights • Mentor-Mentee Engagement Roll Out Over 200 P4K 6th and 7th grade students and mentors attended our fall semester kick-off at Hope Skate, a fun event to start the school year with roller skating and team building activities. The event is great for relationship building between mentors and peers in the P4K program. It's also a great way to reward students for their hard work and participation in P4K curriculum. • RESPECT – Healthy Relationships P4K scheduled RESPECT, an educational theatre company, to present a production to 7th graders. The interactive production was called "Choices" and engaged students in identifying situations of bullying, teen dating violence, suicide, and depression. RESPECT provided healthy strategies students can use in unhealthy or peer pressure situations. • Shark Tank In this annual project, P4K 8th grade students create a business model for a popcorn company. Students work on their business model for about 2 months before pitching it to a panel of "Sharks." Students then set up shop selling their unique popcorn creations at designated areas throughout the city. All the money raised funds their spring service learning project that takes place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Middle School by the numbers 2019-20 7 8 High School 2019-20 High School continues the programming model of after-school meetings led by P4K staff, accompanied by mentors. • 6. 9 Post-Secondary 2019-20 To support students through this final, critical stage of their academic career, P4K provides intensive individual case management, last-dollar-in scholarships, and networking and internship opportunities for career placement. P4K has satellite offices on University of Nebraska-Omaha and Metro Community College campuses giving students easy access to our staff for consistent support. P4K staff meet with students as needed to provide one-to- one support and offer monthly on-campus workshops that provide tips, skills, and tools for personal and academic success. Additionally, first-year students are matched with a senior peer mentor as an added support in navigating college life and find community on campus. Goals · Students will gain connections to activities and supportive resources to promote campus engagement, academic success, and college persistence. · Students will graduate from post-secondary programs with less debt through P4K's annual scholarship support in attaining other financial aid opportunities. · Students will gain the knowledge and skills to successfully enter a career upon degree/ certificate completion, attaining self-sufficiency. Overview Post-Secondary by the numbers 10 Summer Workshops 2019-20 P4K Summer Fun Daily Challenge: About 70 middle school students participated in this 15-day challenge, which provided two daily activities to choose from to exercise mind and body. P4K staff delivered necessary supplies to complete the challenges to students' homes each week. Students who completed at least one challenge each day received a reward at the end of the challenge. Some activities were: do yoga, learn to juggle, make a card for your hero, call your mentor, take a virtual tour of a museum or zoo, do a puzzle, create an ad or new cover for your favorite book, etc. Virtual Engagement: In addition to regular case management, P4K high school staff also organized fun virtual events to stay connected with students over the summer, such as Pictionary, Disney trivia, Bring Your Pet to Lunch Hour, a virtual scavenger hunt, and more. Wayne State College: P4K partnered with Wayne State to provide interactive, virtual campus tours and a student Q&A panel for a group of P4K high school students who were interested in learning more about Wayne State. Summer Bridge: Our annual Summer Bridge is a mandatory half-day session for all new P4K post-secondary scholarship recipients, which is designed to help students transition smoothly to college. Summer Bridge topics include financial aid, scholarship expectations, and P4K in college vs high school. Graduation Parade: In June we held a graduation parade for P4K college graduates. P4K staff delivered graduate gift baskets with notes from donors and the P4K Board congratulating their completion of college! College Send Off: Our annual College Send-Off in August is when P4K students starting college in the fall receive their college basket sponsored by agency donors. It's a laundry basket filled with necessities like towels, bed sheets, laundry detergent, hygiene supplies, and more. This year staff delivered baskets to students' homes. Thank you to our 18 Mentor Advocates from 2019-20! Program Impact 2019-20 Like the rest of the world, P4K programming looked a bit different last year as our staff shifted our after-school programming to take place virtually. We went from the classroom to Zoom and built interactive virtual lessons on new platforms. We dropped off food and hygiene supplies to students in need whose families were struggling during the pandemic. From virtual cooking lessons to virtual college tours and hundreds of hours of mentoring in between, P4K continued to help students stay on track in school and prepare for their future.
