This document introduces a module on motivation in distance education. It will define motivation, discuss the roles of instructors, students, and content in distance education, explore current research on motivation, and engage students in discussion. Upon completing the module, students will be able to define motivation in distance education, understand motivational models and how they apply to distance education, and reflect on and communicate their own motivational strategies using a theoretical model. The module is presented in four parts - an introduction, content, activities, and summary. Students are directed to proceed to the content section to view presentations, videos and complete a checklist.
