Project Credit: Clifford Lynch - Developing a contributor role taxonomy for s...CASRAI
The document summarizes a workshop about developing a standardized taxonomy for contributor roles in scholarly research. The workshop aimed to share the results of consultations on a proposed 14-role taxonomy, discuss potential applications of the taxonomy in research funding, publishing and institutions, and identify challenges and next steps. The proposed taxonomy was developed through previous pilot studies and aimed to balance comprehensiveness with usability while avoiding increased workload for researchers.
The document discusses nonrenewable and renewable resources. Nonrenewable resources like coal, petroleum and natural gas cannot be replenished within human timescales, while renewable resources such as solar, wind, hydropower and biomass can be replenished naturally and sustainably. The key difference between nonrenewable and renewable resources is that nonrenewables are finite and will eventually be depleted, whereas renewables have ongoing natural replacement processes that allow continued human use.

The document discusses several narrative theories and how they apply to films. It explains Todorov's 5 stages of narrative structure which are equilibrium, disruption, recognition, attempt to repair, and new equilibrium. This theory is demonstrated through an analysis of the plot of the film "Gone." It also outlines Propp's 8 character types and 31 narrative functions, again using "Gone" as an example. Finally, it discusses Levi-Strauss' concept of binary oppositions, and Barthes' enigma code and how films like "Se7en," "Insomnia," and "Frozen" employ these concepts.

This document discusses the future of radio in a digital world. It argues that radio needs to utilize both broadcast (FM, DAB, DAB+) and broadband to reach listeners across devices like smartphones. Research presented found that a hybrid radio app pre-installed on phones could increase listening, with 67% of respondents saying they would use it. Industry groups are working on a "smart radio" initiative and API standard to integrate broadcast radio into mobile apps in a way that provides more content while reducing data usage. The conclusion is that digital radio through technologies like DAB+ supports values like pluralism, diversity and added value for listeners.
The document discusses ways to reduce wait times at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). Accelare implemented a three step process: 1) Eliminate hidden wait times by creating separate lines for prepared and unprepared customers. 2) Balance throughput optimization with service level targets by using both priority and FIFO queuing. 3) Minimize service demand and supply mismatch through proactive resource planning such as scheduling staff to match customer demand throughout the day. These steps helped dramatically reduce wait times and increase customer satisfaction at the RMV.

The document discusses the various media technologies used during the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages of a project. Edublogs was used to present work in an organized manner. Google Chrome was used for research on various topics. YouTube provided inspiration from music videos and allowed audience feedback. Vimeo and Slideshare allowed uploading and sharing of work. Prezi, Emaze and Slideshare created professional presentations. Garage Band was used for music composition. Premiere Pro edited footage and added effects. Fireworks created ancillary tasks. The conclusion states these technologies helped make the research, planning, construction and evaluation more professional.
The document discusses several narrative theories and how they apply to films. It explains Todorov's narrative structure of five stages - equilibrium, disruption, recognition, attempt to repair, new equilibrium. Propp identified 8 character types and 31 functions that commonly appear in stories. Levi-Strauss discussed how binary oppositions like good/evil drive narratives and create meaning. Barthes' enigma code explained how narratives use mystery through codes like hermeneutic and proairetic to intrigue audiences. Examples are provided of how psychological thrillers employ these various narrative concepts.
