Basic Parli Vocab Agenda - a predetermined sequence of items to be covered at a meeting. Adopt -to accept or approve a motion. Amendment - a motion that proposes a change to the pending motion. Business - an item of matter of brought up at a meeting in the form of a motion. Bylaws - highest body of rules of an organization. Commit - to refer to a committee Main motion -a motion that brings business to the assembly and is made when no other business is pending. Debate -a dicussion of the motion to determine whether or
Majority vote - more than half of votes cast Minutes - written record of the proceedings. Adjourn - close the meeting Germane - relevant or relating to the topic being discussed. Second - agreement that a motion be considered Quorum - number of voting members that must be present in order to legally transact business.
Motions, Amendments, and Voting… Oh my! The form of a motion: “ I move to…” “ I move that…” Ex. “ I move that the Ingraham FCCLA chapter have an ice cream social .” Ways to amend a motion: -Adding on -Strike out -Striking out and inserting -Substituting Ex. “ I move to amend the motion by adding on “on June 3 rd ”.  ( Adding on)
Ex. “I move to amend the previous amendment by striking out “3 rd ” and inserting “10 th ”.  (Striking out and inserting) Types of voting: -Voice vote -Roll Call vote -Ballot vote -General consent -Standing vote
Minutes Minutes are the written records of the proceedings in a meeting. They are a record of what is done (motion is passed, sent to a committee, etc.) and  not  what was said by the members (details of debate). The minutes of a meeting are recorded by the secretary.
